Reaffirming alliance every 3 months? wonder if this alliance is becoming fragile day by day.

Kevin Mayer, a former director of the office of Japan affairs in State Dep, said "About a half of our job was like keep saying 'We love you, Japan' ".

President Obama must have a hard time keeping track of who's who in Japanese politics these days!

That is, of course, I totally agree. My post was not intended to contradict. The US army indeed showed its best side during disasters.

We saw that already with the stupid decision to send soldiers to Sudan. A war with China is a step closer, China being a major trading partner for Sudans oil...

I am afraid Mr Obama has to 're-reaffirm' their alliances with Japan in 14 months later! Mr Noda has begin his' out-going' career in PM office!

Like I've said before, history is going to be an even more brutal subject if students are quizzed on who was PM and when. I'm sure Obama must be thinking, "Again?" but hopefully Noda can at least keep things stable (I don't expect him to fulfill any of his promises).

I was reading on another news site that Hatoyama cracked a joke something along the lines of, "Don't quit in a year".

The 'lame duck alliances in pacific': Obama,Noda,Gillard! These three out-going stooges were saving asia out of Chinese perils! Good luck!

Be interesting to hear the private comments in the White House about yet another PM visit. I wonder if they laugh or cry?

This will be Noda's diplomatic debut trial run. People call him the revolving-door Prime minister, I call him the sushi train Prime Minister.

zichiSep. 19, 2011 - 11:38PM JST. I think thousands of nationals were very grateful that the U.S. military provided immediately following the triple mega disasters and changed some people's view of the U.S, bases. They did a remarkable job.

Not diminishing the great help that they indeed do; Any military in the same situation would do the same. Whole world was helping you, zichi. People in Chernobyl in the same situation were getting only nasty laughs, hyperbolically saying.

Despite the possibly insurmountable challenges the he has inherited, PM Noda seems to be off to a good start.

For the sake of Japan — and for those of us with a vested stake in the country's success — I hope that he has a term that lasts long enough that he is able to implement meaningful change. The trend over the last decade plus of swinging-door prime ministers has got to stop.

The news this morning pictured him with Mrs. Noda getting on a jet for the US. I am glad to see that Japan finally has a 'first lady' who is willing to fulfill her role in international politics, as well.

In other words, Japan has to state yet again to the world's emperor, "yes, we agree to follow orders and follow your foreign >policy, as ours doesn't count. We are your lackey." the US is so afraid of an independent Japan that has good relations >with China; they dread he day Japanese tell their occupation military forces to take a hike. Some alliance. Japan is still >occupied 60 + years later - against public opposition. Now you know why china is suddenly a "threat", otherwise there'd be >no credible pretext for US bases.

Translation: "We forgot about what we did to you in World War II, China, and we're sure you've forgotten, too!"
