Obama: N Korea's isolation means less leverage in talks

Maybe the US should fly in a pallet with $1.6 billion in cash to increase it’s leverage.

The comments against Obama are just another sign of increasing American weakness :)

Whatever language, we are an island on the far side.

As much as I dislike Trump one has to admit that the previous administrations (plural - including President Obama) did not accomplish anything in dealings with North Korea. I am skeptical as to what may come out of a meeting between North Korea and the U.S. but will withhold judgment until there is a meeting and something tangible to talk about.

Good to know a president can implement divisive policies and speak divisively yet be inclusive personally. Another Obama magic trick I guess. He can have it, just glad he is done.

@stock: So what. English is my third language.

Obama had Sushi in Ginza. Trump only had hamburgers in Japan. People gets humbergers for dogs in our area.. Trump own a hotel in our area so he knew he was not treated like a person in Japan.

It requires a crazy man to talk with another crazy man. Think we have the right guys for the job, now.

Might be the only useful think that President Trump will do in office.

Normal pressures have failed, probably because China and other regional neighbors haven't completely shut off the NK border. As long as the elite of NK can leave, go shopping, and return, the average NK citizen will pay.

Until all their public relations are shut off, like sending athletes to international games/matches/meets, it won't change either.

Time for crazy.

Trump has a meeting only because of the effort of the current president of South Korea, who was a refugee of North Korea.

Sorry, English is my 4th language.

Wow.. kind of miss worded that....

US 15% corporate tax, China 0%

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

My goodness, Trump may actual get a deal done with N.Korea and it blows your minds???

Nice koolaid, can I have some on Friday?

How about the trade deals? Trump imposes 60 billions in tariffs to China.... Obama...0!!!!

15% corporate tax on Chinese companies in US, and they have 0.... yeah, Obama loves America!

And @ strangerland... too funny.. so, Obama came to Japan as a symbolic jester to show... somebody like you... that America isn't a mess because it's economy is doing without him and awesome and progress is being done about the biggest threat to Japan, namely N.Korea???? Nice logical.

There was no Lybia ever with our great leader.

Trump year one, CONFIRMED meeting with North Korea.

Stocktrader, you do not seem to grasp the realities of the situation. It has been Kim's overarching goal since he assumed power to meet with a US president so as to confirm his legitimacy and equality of status with other states. Any previous president could have met with Kim but were wise enough to avoid the trap. The timing is particularly bad: a meeting with Kim after his developing nuclear weapons will be used by him as a way to legitimize NK as a nuclear state. In the meantime, Kim is doing his darndest to split SK and the US.

The few remaining adults in the room are in despair over this. Trump is a fool for initiating the meeting and a bigger fool to hope that anything positive will come from it. Kim will have a positive meeting with Moon and a disastrous meeting with Trump, and SK sentiment towards America will greatly worsen.

So, Strangerland, what is Obama doing in Japan?

Oh, did you not see my earlier post? I already answered that:

Reminding Japan that America isn’t a total mess, they only have a leader that is one.

Next:

Another achievement of the Obama administration was the legalization of bump stock

Nope. As Laguna posted in another thread earlier today:

Let's look at the timeline.

In 2010, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives concluded that it could not regulate bump stocks since the devices could not be classified as machine guns since they do not permanently alter the trigger mechanism of a firearm.

Obama concluded that current law didn’t allow for its regulation by executive order, requiring instead an act of Congress.

Since then, and particularly following the Las Vegas massacre, several bills to ban bump stocks have been introduced in congress, but GOP leadership in both the Senate and House have refused to bring them up for a vote.

Trump bans them by executive order accompanied by a self-congratulatory tweet that lies about Obama "legalizing" them:

Obama Administration legalized bump stocks. BAD IDEA. As I promised, today the Department of Justice will issue the rule banning BUMP STOCKS with a mandated comment period. We will BAN all devices that turn legal weapons into illegal machine guns.

As it's an executive order, the NRA and pro-gun groups will be likely challenge it in court, and a judge may issue an injunction barring enforcement of the rule until the case is complete.

That, my friends, is the GOP working for you. Congress could simply pass a law, but they're too frightened to go on record.

Trump is already close to a historic meeting after historic economic success after one year.

Hardly historic. At this point in Obama's presidency, the stock market was up by 35.7%, while Trump is only up by 18%. http://www.macrotrends.net/2481/stock-market-performance-by-president

Another achievement of the Obama administration was the legalization of bump stocks which turn legal weapons into illegal automatic guns. There is your hero!

Not exactly...

So, Strangerland, what is Obama doing in Japan?

Is he somehow relevant? If so, is it symbolic?

That's what ex-PotUS folk do. Jimmy Carter in Pyongyang, '94.

What did Obam ever do for US?

https://washingtonmonthly.com/magazine/januaryfebruary-2017/obamas-top-50-accomplishments-revisited/

And that's just 50 things.

Obama did however destroy Libya, created ISIS by withdrawing from Iraq, and introduced gay marriage.

I think you'll find Gadaffi managed to mangle Libya first. And as has been posted here numerous times he did not create ISIS, which was already formed by the time he took office. Might still have been in embryonic stages had Dubya not done the illegal Iraq invasion.

As for introducing marriage for all, forgive me, but what is the problem with equality and those who love each other getting married?

4 ( +8 / -4 )

Obama was one of the worst Presidents in history as far as accomplishing anything and Trump is already close to a historic meeting after historic economic success after one year.

-4 ( +8 / -12 )

introduced gay marriage.

Someone doesn’t understand the legal system and the difference between the legislative and executive branches.

The race hate never stops for some Americans. Sad, as your fraud of an incumbent likes to say.

8 years of no war = 8 years of doing nothing

Gotcha. Peace = bad, war = good.

Trump year one, CONFIRMED meeting with North Korea

Not confirmed, and doubtful it will ever happen. If you think it will it shows you have no clue of the history of NK actions, and for that matter are entirely ignorant of Trump’s history of flip flopping.

The meeting between the two won’t be confirmed until they are literally sitting in the room with each other.

What is Obama even doing in Japan!?

Reminding Japan that America isn’t a total mess, they only have a leader that is one.

8 years of no war = 8 years of doing nothing about a problem. I can't say I respect laziness or a man with no resolve. Obama did however destroy Libya, created ISIS by withdrawing from Iraq, and introduced gay marriage.

Trump year one, CONFIRMED meeting with North Korea. North Korea signals willingness to denuclearize. That's tangible progress.

What is Obama even doing in Japan!? Head of Deep State?

-6 ( +9 / -15 )

this Man has no credibility when it comes to North Korea

Eight years of no war with N. Korea gives him credibility.

this Man has no credibility when it comes to North Korea his big Asian pivot is on par with Abe and his three arrow economic policy

There is a time for talk a time for spanking where to draw that line should be well thought out.

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Trumps gets a meeting after 1 year.

He hasn't had a meeting yet.

It's doubtful it will ever happen.

4 ( +12 / -8 )

Obama was stumped about how to leverage for 8 years. And Trumps gets a meeting after 1 year.
