A good idea since the JSDF has already been training with Ospreys. Might be an even better idea to step up the JSDF order sooner for their own Ospreys to shut these protesters up.

A serious country makes defense deployment decisions based on military planning, not on NIMBY whining.

It was the U.S. side, the cost-conscious military/industrial complex, that took the initiative to sell Ospreys to Japan, probably in a bid to make up for the enormous D/R cost they invested in the development of this tilt-rotor transport aircraft.

Japan's Ministry of Defense, a body naturally responsible for such dealings, was reluctant to buy them at first while, strangely enough, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs was very active to buy them. Apparently, the Defense Ministry sucumbed to the proactive sales approach by the U.S. military/industrial complex and agreed to buy 17 of them plus attachments in the total amount of 360 billion yen.

The subsequent problem the Defebse Ministry faced was to decide on where to base them, but the prefectures they approached all rejected to host these accident-prone aircraft. The ministry is currently targeting Saga Airport, but will the prefecture that operates the airport accept it as easily as the government thinks?
