Roger it is not Japans war. Let the Americans do it with their large military.

So basically, "I'm alright Jack" - everyone else can go hang because it's not your problem.

And you still want the US to help you if Japan gets attacked? Talk about selfish!

Japan needs to follow the road of peace.

China isn't going to give Japan that option, whether it's 5 or 10 years from now. Or at least, peace will equal subservience to China and Chinese foreign policy.

I went to find out more about this rant, but so far the only one I see having any more details is here: http://www.gmanetwork.com/news/story/522822/news/nation/teachers-ask-supreme-court-to-stop-phl-japan-military-exercises

Here are the offending articles:

Section 1. The Philippines is a democratic and republican State. Sovereignty resides in the people and all government authority emanates from them. Section 7. The State shall pursue an independent foreign policy. In its relations with other states, the paramount consideration shall be national sovereignty, territorial integrity, national interest, and the right to self-determination. Section 25. After the expiration in 1991 of the Agreement between the Republic of the Philippines and the United States of America concerning military bases, foreign military bases, troops, or facilities shall not be allowed in the Philippines except under a treaty duly concurred in by the Senate and, when the Congress so requires, ratified by a majority of the votes cast by the people in a national referendum held for that purpose, and recognized as a treaty by the other contracting State.

Really. With only 1 seat, ACT's position can hardly be said to emanae from Section 1, the current defence cooperation is an attempt to protect territorial integrity being infringed by China and as for Section 25 they are right a treaty has not been signed, but then as long as no one actually steps onto Phillippine soil, the exercise cannot be seen as a violation.

Besides, they can always say. Technically, those weren't troops.

StrangerlandJul. 30, 2015 - 12:40AM JST "In the face of a powerful aggressor peace can only be attained by ensuring that the aggressor understands that his aspirations can not be achieved without costly resistance"

That's such an American way of thinking. And it's why your country is permanently at war.

Actually, that's why the world is the way it has been for 70 years, and you have the liberty to be posting your comments of both questionable relevance and value.

At least the Philippine government is taking this South China Sea conflict seriously.

Yuriotani, Japan has been and will continue to follow the road of peace. But peace is not attained by doing nothing as Japan has been able to do for the last 70 years. In the face of a powerful aggressor peace can only be attained by ensuring that the aggressor understands that his aspirations can not be achieved without costly resistance. I believe you are the very personification of what is called "heiwa boke" in Japan. In this day and age of international economic and political relationships there is no such thing as "someone else' war", particularly for Japan when the issue is the East Asia region.

Well, Philippines and Japan should start doing patrolling and drills activities more often. China, at their doors, is eroding little by little their territories threatening to steal islands and resources. I think all the countries orotund China should unite and act as one concerning those issues. China is building a military outpost from nowhere in the middle of the ocean right in front Philippines... If I were them, i'd do drills with anybody and get ready to defend what is mine!

avigator: The ones in control of the HAARP were so clever to induce typhoon Haiyan or Yolanda to ravage the Philippines so Japan and the US could come as the helpers just like they did in Indonesia with the Tsunami, in Myammar after the cyclone, and in Fukushima after the floating HAARP was used for 3 days off Fukushima to lower the high ionization levels caused after they modified the reactors, while they used reprocessed uranium.

Yes! What are they hiding in there????

So then you support China's claim that it owns all waters right up to the sand on the beaches of all countries that touch the China seas?

1 ( +2 / -1 )

So you mean "wacko groups" are making more sense than the Abe and Aquino cabinets by questioning their unlawful actions.

It's a "drill".

@danalawton and nigelboy:

So you mean "wacko groups" are making more sense than the Abe and Aquino cabinets by questioning their unlawful actions.

Which means that Abe (his bogus security bills and disrespect for the Constitution) and Aquino (Tribunal, pacts with Jpn/USA and maritime actions) are beneath or lower than these wacko groups?

No wonder Japanese and Filipino people/majority/legal experts are rejecting their way of illogical and unlawful thinking/actions/hyperboles.

-9 ( +1 / -10 )

They have a political party and in 2013 received 453,491 political votes giving them 1 seat in Congress. They are a small organization which may have brought this issue up just to make headlines.

If it's true, that is considered "wacko fringe group" which is even below the Japanese wacko group of The People's Life Party & Taro Yamamoto and Friends.

2 ( +6 / -4 )

Nothing prevents Japan from being ready, it is just that Japan can not make the first attack. As for the drills if not against article #9 are on the line.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

@teamwork: that wouldn't work, as everybody loses if China is surrounded/provoked/WWIII is pushed upon China. Not a brilliant idea, for you and your kids, for everyone and their kids.

WWIII?, do you know what you are wishing for?

Good luck with all that.

Read people..... Alliance of Concerned Teachers ( ACT ), is the organization which petitioned the Philippine Govt to stop Japan from participating. ACT, in addition to other things, does not want any foreign influence on the Philippine Education system. They have a political party and in 2013 received 453,491 political votes giving them 1 seat in Congress. They are a small organization which may have brought this issue up just to make headlines.

@hworta269:

"wacko fringe group"? Why would such a "wacko" group be able to make a valid argument ( questioning the legality/constitutionality of the Philippines' joint miltary partnership with Japan)?, which the top judiciary supports such questioning.

As I said along, Japan has no right being involved in the South China Sea issues. Both Japan and the Philippines are desperately resorting to unlawful and unconstitutional mechanisms to try to suppress the non-existing China "threat", especially with both countries themselves having done things to also provoke China.

It would be much constructive for Abe and Aquino to focus on the real threats: their respective domestic urgent issues like the economy, social welfare, poverty etc.

If the China"threat" is so real, it is telling that the Japanese people and Philippines majority/top court have rejected such a hyperbole by Abe (bogus security bills) and the attention-grabber Aquino (joint military "agreement" with Japan and even USA and Tribunal hearing which itself has no clear jurisdiction).

-3 ( +4 / -7 )

If everyone around China would simply join hands militarily we could have China completely surrounded. Perhaps it will be enough to freak China out enough to spark WWIII. Remind me to buy some weapons stock.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

With today available technology (weapons), the idea of "defend a country from within" is outdated and nonviable. In fact if Japan only activate its defenses after the attacker war machinery crosses the borders, it will be too late and the damage with be extremely large...

But I suppose that little technical fact can be ignored.. right?

-3 ( +1 / -4 )

Still the PI requested assistance and this is how they repay Japan.

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

Encouraging to see that the Philippines has a functioning independent judiciary. How about Japan?

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

The PI Government asked Japan for participation. This is a court case from a wacko fringe group in the country

12 ( +15 / -3 )

Japan needs to mind its own business and do not hold drills with other countries outside of Japan. The only exception is self defense drills within Japan with America.
