"the territorial conflict and heightened tensions between China and the Philippines over the South China Sea should also concern Japan. "Just like the U.S., Japan is also a stakeholder in the quest for peace ..."

That means that if Japan will side with Phillipines against China, that will be "for peace". But, if it will side with China against Phillipines, that will be, consequently, "for war". Very easy to make right decision now.

Tokyo and Manila will step up their maritime security ties and sign a military cooperation agreement when Noda and Aquino meet on Tuesday.

Japan doesn't have military, does it? In any case, it is a big mistake. It will hit back. In the future, Japan should not complain that everything was China's fault.

The territorial conflict with China is one minor topic of the visit, yet the article tries to make it the main subject.

Historically, China has no territorial rights to the Spratly Islands and surrounding seas, so there is no room for debate. The Red Chinese must be kicked out of the South China Sea.

China'a claim to all the Spratly archipelago originates from its historical presence in the region, dating back to the Han dynasty of the second century, B.C. and China's historical claim is contemptible and fails to disregard similar historical claims made by Taiwan, Vietnam and Malaysia. Therefore China's historical interpretation of its sovereignty rights ignores current international law. Case is adjudicated. Period.

Konsta, from Japan to China "you can draw when ready partner". I get tired from all of the threats againat Japan from China. Since we in Japan are peace loving and can not start any war, it is up to China to do it or Ferme ta bouche!, tais-toi!, la ferme!.

Because as YuriOtani posted in a previous comment, Japan considers China and Russia as enemies. I don't know if those two countries know about it, but in place of Philippines, only a fool wouldn't exploit such a useful sentiment.

Aquino's meeting is more about the economic problems in the Philippines and they want to ask Japan to open up to the Filipino professional workers. In addition to Filipino health workers, the Philippines wants to expand the scope of professionals who can work in Japan under the economic partnership agreement signed by the two countries five years ago. They need money.

Yes Japan has a military. They have more warships than the British navy, and their jets are US equipped. They're not boyscouts.

Your're like a broken record. All you do is promote right wing propaganda. If Japan is so 'peace loving', why did it murder 13 million Chinese in WWii? Heck, if it wants peace, why doesn't it disband it's military and copy costa rica?

You racists always point to the Chinese; you are Chinese. Japan didn't exist 2000 yrs ago, why do you hate yourself chinaman?

KonstaSep. 28, 2011 - 04:40AM JST. Japan just does not have to behave with the surrounding countries like with enemies (China, Russia) or understates (S.Korea). The wiser one must always make the first move.

I hope that relations between China and Japan improves. Any political conflict can have huge economic consequences with China, such as delay or reduced amount in shipment of rare earth metal to Japan that took place after ship collision near Senkaku last year. My point is that Japan has too much economic dependency on one country. What happens if Japan makes a huge mistake in the disputed island and China gets pissed off and freezes Japanese company assets or their company bank accounts? This is the reason Japan needs to diversify their investments to other countries besides China so that it will have less impact in these situations.

....Pres."Benigno Aquino" w/o" III" (the third) is not incorrect, because the SR & the JR is deceased.

I just want to make a correction of Philippine President's name. It should be Benigno Aquino III. Benigno Aquino is his grandfather. ^^

He is lax president anyway.
