And the extra $7.2 billion they offered to spend just before the election will come from The unicorn and fairy taxes perhaps.

At least he's looking at putting the monarchy in the rear view mirror.

Australia has been in dire straits as a nation for years, but most people haven't being paying attention. This ridiculous ALP cheerleading piece only reinforces that notion

Insane housing prices brought about by poor government policy (mainly) have either put home ownership outside the grasp of younger generations, or have locked them into deep debt to buy a home and vulnerable to the coming interest rate rises.

Governments of both the Liberal and Labor stripe have sold the country down the river to various foreign interests, most notably to China but also to private and government entities from other countries through lax Foreign Investment Review Board decisions and rules.

Governments of both the Liberal and Labor stripe have sacrificed Australia to the golden calf of GHG emissions targets despite the country being a tiny contributor to global CO2 output. This is producing ridiculously high energy prices while undermining baseload capacity, risking blackouts during high-demand periods, forcing people to turn off the power so they can afford to eat, decimating industry competitiveness, and failing to consider nuclear power and its variants. The Liberals have been cowards in their respect, but Labor and their watermelon partners the Greens will accelerate Australia's decline with gusto.

And Labor states have been the most zealous and overbearing in terms of COVID response, with Labor enforcing the strictest lockdowns, vaccine mandates and vaccine passport rules. The federal Labor opposition have supported them, and can't be trusted to defend the rights of Australians not to be forcibly injected with a medication against their will under threat of losing their civil rights. In the process they've gutted small business, done terrible psychological damage to adults and especially children, and conditioned a sizeable chunk of the population to fear their neighbours. Although the details of what appears to be a forthcoming WHO pandemic treaty are still under wraps, I'm confident that the ALP/Greens government will be tripping over themselves to sign away Australia's sovereignty as soon as they get the chance, handballing their decision-making to a bunch of unelected, unaccountable bureaucrats whose loyalties are highly suspect.

For thinking people, Australia under the ALP/Greens is not going to be a pleasant place to live. For the rest, I wonder how long it will take for buyer's reprise to set in.

No need to worry. Australia has distanced itself from China:

Haha! I only wish it weren't satire.

I hope people who call him Antonio Average are proven wrong.

extend to indigenous people a constitutional right to be heard on national policy-making

This one is interesting - do “indigenous people” not get a vote in Australia so far? Does the constitution exclude them from voting, ala institutional racism?

I am wondering what this may mean for Australia’s production of commodities - obviously commodities have ripped higher since last year. Is Australia going to produce more, the same, or less as a result? Coal gets a mention at the end there, but what else are we looking at?

BigYen, I see… that makes me wonder who gets to be on the special advisory body. Individual votes is not good enough huh.

A fantasy commentary and absolute rubbish. Australia is a stable democracy and industrialized nation. With a better effort on combating climate change which is the greatest challenge, apart from dealing with belligerent autocracies, Australia has a rosy future ahead.

probably comes in the wake of the fiasco caused by rio tinto blowing up a heritage cave system in order to extract minerals (and profits). they were ordered to 'rebuild' it but i have a feeling the original symbolism will be lost....i mean have you been to journey to center of the earth at disneyland, etc.

I just hope he doesn’t become the USA puppet like Morrison and his government was! The Australian economy is suffering because of the actions of Morrison who tried to please the US at any cost!

Not without China.

If you’re trying to imply there would be some kind of government fix on who that would be, you don’t know Australian politics.

Actually I don’t know Australian politics which was why I was asking the question.

In my mind, people should be free, but as for democracy, each person usually gets a vote. Not different rules for different people.

Guy-Gin - And the extra $7.2 billion they offered to spend just before the election will come from The unicorn and fairy taxes perhaps.

Nope! That money will come out of the ground in either copper, aluminum, steel or uranium.

The new labor government in Australia faces many challenges to restructure what the liberal government has destroyed over the last decade.

What are your loyalties? Why do you always cheer lead China?

Who represents the interests of Aboriginal communities in the Australian Parliament? White members who's districts overlap Aboriginal lands. But their constituencies are mostly non Aboriginal and because of this the needs of Aboriginal communities are drown out by louder voices of a the non Aboriginal majority. Are there majority Aboriginal Parliament districts in Australia? None that I am aware of. They effectively have no representation.
