" PM tells ruling LDP to unite, be humble to bring election success"

He's a comedian.

-5 ( +11 / -16 )

I can't be the only person who heard part of that in Kendrick's voice.

It's cute that he thinks a party that's been in power for 90 per cent of the time since the end of WW2 has to seriously consider the fact that they might lose.

-5 ( +8 / -13 )

Let’s have more freedom in Japan, not less LDP!

"be humble"

LDP and "humble"..... oxymoron!

-3 ( +11 / -14 )

the scandal-weary party can regain public trust by being more "humble" and attuned to people's needs.

HAHAHAHAHA! GOOD ONE!!

LDP and "humble"..... oxymoron!

much less being attuned to people's needs... what a joke.

Over the last three decades, the LDP has raised the consumption tax three times, increased social security premiums almost twice as much, drastically cut back on public spending and neglected decaying infrastructure. How do they think they can win the next election for the upper house in July?

6 ( +8 / -2 )

How do they think they (the LDP) can win the next election for the upper house in July?

Precisely because they are the LDP, and there is no real opposition.

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

...and not be corrupt pieces of crap, right? He told them that, too, right? No? Oh well.

-5 ( +6 / -11 )

LDP loosing majority was the best thing that happened to the average Taro last year. Hopefully their next election performance will continue this new tradition.

Be humble, sez he…

This, after being slapped down for trying to raise people’s medical costs.

This guy is zero- charisma.

blue in green

Be humble, sez he…

This, after being slapped down for trying to raise people’s medical costs.

That would be an example of him being humble, though.

Rather than empty worlds, why not a DOGE like digital audit to really cut the Govt. waste and corruption?

Voters want less Govt. and far more focus on Private Sector actually creating wealth & productivity for society

Voters are fed up with their impotent Political Class controlled by Unelected Bureaucrats with their $Agenda

It's time for Japan to move on, the LDP has had more than enough time to fix the country but has failed in every category.

If you know anything at all about Japanese politics you'll know perfectly well why not, but I doubt commenting on Japanese politics is your main objective.

LDP's vision of big Govt. is a path to CONTINUED ruin. Private sector is where ALL wealth creation, innovation and solutions that solve societies problems resides.

LDP, like the Democrats in US, LDP seem intent on trying to over-regulate and control Japan's economy with the huge help of the many unelected Govt. Bureaucrats.

Above NOT working and WHY Japan's economy is in shambles, like every other Govt. Sector led economy, because it's not actually even a functional Democracy.

New LDP policies to change direction, not empty words.

Don't you know that the LDP basically runs Japan for the benefit of the private sector, and the private sector makes sure the LDP is well rewarded?

Obviously you don't.

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Unite be humble and most important of all keep those financial scandals hidden!

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Don't you know that the LDP basically runs Japan for the benefit of the private sector, and the private sector makes sure the LDP is well rewarded?

Empty words, LDP policies have destroyed capitalism's 'animal spirits' in Japan, the private sector demands the Govt. assume their risks = $CRONY Capitalism

Results obvious to all, Japan's economy in shambles due to LDP destroying the private sector.

If Japan's private sector so great, why BY FAR the lowest FDI of any G-7 Country? It's a dumpster fire.

PM tells ruling LDP to unite, be humble to bring election success

Or.....

do what you're supposed to actually do and help the citizens?

maybe stop embezzling funds and just sleeping all day?

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

Time wasting, nothing will change !

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

The LDP has been debating the different surname issue, with its junior coalition...

Yes please do, 100 years of debating is not enough !

-6 ( +2 / -8 )

I love the "my back hurts" pose unique to Japanese speeches and photos like in the above. Nothing shows strength like a cringe on your face, a hand on the hip, and one bent above your head.

"I want you to remember when we were in opposition..."

Yeah, because it was so much different than when all the people who quit the LDP because they didn't get their way were in power.

I'm not sure what any of that means but the private sector does seem to be bloated with cash that the LDP just lets it hoard and not invest. No, the problem is that the private sector doesn't feel it needs 'animal spirits,' or whatever, as long as it has the LDP in its pocket.

Methinks that his comments, (made in which language), were directed to the majority Japanese citizens, many of whom are rather highly educated and provide the majority of the public tax contributions. but thanks for the valuable comments. I also pay taxes.

Give it up SF, LDP economic results clear as day,

Japanese economy steadily becoming more dependent upon Govt. and as a result Japan's becoming POORER over many decades, what more proof do you need?

Japan's GDP per capita was $40K in 2000, $30K in 2024 and the $'s lost massive purchasing power due to inflation, $ buys far fewer 'real assets' than in the past.

Japan's population, easily 4x poorer than 25 years ago

Massive public debt and poverty = LDP track record

Give it up SF, LDP economic results clear as day,

Give up what, exactly? You haven't somehow got the idea that I think LDP collusion with big business is good, have you?

LDP - Liberal Democratic Party.

Not Liberal, hardly Democratic and certainly not a Party.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

The side who "scandal-weary" are general citizen !

This corrupted far-right ruling party is now hotbed of injustices or illegal acts, they prioritize own profit than working for citizen, and still interrupt uncovering whole of slush fundraising scandals.

Besides, they intend to make infamous racist Sugita as candidate of next upper house election.

They cannot cleanup themselves anymore, moreover, their corruption or its ways are even contaminating whole Japan politically.

-4 ( +12 / -16 )

help bring the prices down, help families spend more time together so they make bigger families, help families access daycare so both parents can work...

Lot's of good ideas to help society, none of them being discussed by this corrupt party

It's the private sector in collusion with the LDP that is causing much of the gov't waste of taxpayer money.

Voters are fed up with their impotent Political Class controlled by Unelected Bureaucrats with their $Agenda

But, DOGE is led and staffed entirely by unelected bureaucrats.

LDP - Liberal Democratic Party.

Not Liberal, hardly Democratic and certainly not a Party.

They're only a party in the sense that they sort of stick loosely together, but individual Diet members can pretty much fund themselves through various suspect means and if they have enough support in their constituencies they can say and do what they like and the party leadership can't do anything about it.
