The real question we all have is whether the QUAD will support Taiwan if China chooses to invade. And they would have to give support to a degree that makes it too costly for China to carry out their threat.

Taiwan has just applied to join TPP. Good for them!

I take it Tibet and Xinjiang are also off the menu then. And you've accepted that they are a part of China?

They are occupied by China against their will. They will never be part of China, just occupied by enemies of Tibet and Xinjiang. Perhaps Tibets government in exile should be grated membership in the Quad. They would embrace it, I'm sure.

Queue the Chinese poster denials.

Now India and Japan feel unsafe under new strategy of Biden

Absent anything anywhere that backs your claim it is nothing more than ad hominem.

India is perhaps the only member of the Quad I would be concerned about not wanting to risk crossing China over Taiwan. The rest would be right there. Yes, I think Japan would commit out of fear of what happens next (invade Okinawa) if China were to take Taiwan, plus US forces will be operating out of Japan as a matter of necessity. India could break China by attacking China's maritime traffic in the Indian Ocean and opening a second front on their border but I just don't know if India has the nerve to do it. Still having India as a possible ally has to give Chinese war planners lots to worry about. Will they or won't they, and what if they do? I honestly think Congress would quickly impeach and replace any US President who didn't immediately go to the mat to defend Taiwan.

This is another example of the strong and well aimed Biden administration strategy.

He has the ability to gain the trust of other nations.

Now India and Japan feel safer under new strategy of Biden.

Fixed it so its correct.

Someone has to stand up to Chinese belligerence and only one nation can really lead that effort with any credibility. The US may have deficiencies in how it conducts and finishes things but it is the only nation with the military ability and capacity to defend against China, apart from Russia who sits on China's fence and seems to want to be a thorn in its own way. If Russia could clean up its act and join the west it could be one of the west's leaders and it would end much division in the world.

The Quad is the best hope for balance at this point. Everyone just needs to keep tempers in check, fingers well away from triggers and learn that no matter how strong you think you are, you need to compromise on issues to keep the peace from time to time.

If Communist China try anything against Taiwan, they can expect the QUAD force to hit them like a ton of bricks. China is the enemy, lets stop dancing around this fact. The US and allies can reduce them to rubble, back to the Stone Age, if push comes to shove. Fact.

Back off China, and leave the region in peace for free and fair nations if you know what's good for you.

Taiwan should run the steering committee of this group.

Taiwan cannot do that. They are not a member of QUAD.

In the long term future , 5-10 years, I'd love to see Taiwan in QUAD, along with Vietnam, Thailand and Philippines as they modernize and strengthen their militaries. The more peace-loving nations militarily pushing back against the Commies the better.

As the worlds strongest power, the USA is the rightful leader of QUAD.

Ironic, considering the Ryukyus were once an independent kingdom with good relations with its neighbour to the west until Japan invaded and annexed it. I also love how America colonized other countries all over the Pacific, and don't get me started on the British empire

That was 100 years ago, this is now.

Attitudes have changed.

I do not necessarily agree with that assumption. Being the most powerful in a group does not mean they are also the smartest. The leadership should be group based not resting with one member.

oh, let’s not forget the Roman Empire, the Ottoman Empire, the Persian empire, & a few other empires

Too slow. The status quo has already been changed by the PRC, aggressively and very much for the worse.

If I could take the conversation and back up for a minute, I would like to ask, what is Xi trying to accomplish by claiming the seas far away from China as sovereign territory? I just don't get what he is trying to do. How does he gain by inhibiting free commercial travel in the area? The Chinese economy is dependent on the free flow of goods on the ocean. Are Chinese advances into this area part of a ploy to isolate Taiwan further, and to make it harder for other countries to engage with Taiwan?

The relationship between the Ryukyu Kingdom and Japan is much more nuanced that what you imply. They had a trading relationship for over a century that they both kept secret from China. The Ryukyu leaders played both sides for the middle for a good long time before Japan eventually annexed them.

China cannot feed itself and it lacks domestic natural resources. China wants to control the natural resources such as oil, gas and fisheries of the South China Sea while excluding other nations from using these resources. They also want a sanctuary for the SSBNs to operate in that is not threatened by adversary navies.

Ironic, considering the Ryukyus were once an independent kingdom

Not really. They were a tributary state of China. China kept more or less a viceroy in the Ryukyu imperial household to monitor them. The Ryukyu Kingdom had to have Chinese approval for their royal appointments. Ryukyu leaders and administrators and some royal children were trained in elite Chinese universities. China provided the Ryukyu Kingdom with ships to use in trade, but the Ryukyu ships were restricted to trading only with other tributary states of China, except the Ryukyus were cheating and trading with Japan without China's knowledge.

United States announced last week the creation of a new security partnership for the Indo-Pacific with Britain and Australia,

This is another example of the weak and ignorantly Biden administration strategy. Only big mouth...
