Please don't let us have rolling prime ministers again...

So Steven, you would rather us just keep the most corrupt prime ministers just for a sense of continuity? That makes sense, said no one!

@MarkX,

Excellent post.

These Nippon Kaigi affiliated LDP members have gotten way to powerful and they all think they are above the law and the people they are supposed to serve.

If we have another conveyor belt of PMs so be it, especially if it makes them take notice of the people they are supposed to be working for and not lining their own pockets.

LDP birds of a feather, after all. Lie with dogs... etc.

Can just see it....Mr Ex PM did you know anything about anything? No ? It was all the naughty underlings ideas and you were kept in the dark? Got it, all is good, very sorry to have bothered you.

That about covers it.

The prosecutors office won't charge Abe.

"I wouldn't say there is no impact" to the Suga government, said Toshihiro Nikai, the No. 2 of the LDP headed by Suga, at a press conference

Nikai may be pulling the legs of Suga. Four lawmakers belonging in the Nikai clique have been arrested, two of whom (Mr and Ms Kawai) have got corruption charges; the rest two (Akizuki and Yoshikawa) have resigned from the Diet.

Nikai, a well-known pro-Beijing politician, is very unpopular among conservatives. Lobbied and backed by tourism industries, he has also insisted on the controversial GoTo programme, another failing point for the Suga administration. For survival, PM Suga better stay away from Nikai and his associates.

Yoshikawa (from Nikai clique) is now under an inquiry by the prosecutors.

I see this case more serious than Abe's, likely to be charged (and a guilty verdict is expected).

Maybe it's a good window of opportunity for lawmakers who try to "drain the swamps" of China sympathizers or spies (?).

Why is he being interviewed in the Diet by his former colleagues rather than by prosecutors?

Wasn't it Nikai who got Suga the PM job in the first place?

He is not French.

The trial will probably be at closed doors.

At the trial Abe will be able to lie blatantly to scape, but at the Diet lots of listeners will challenge his words.

You're right, and that's why I dare suggest that Suga now cut ties with Nikai under crisis. Otherwise his tenure would be more short-lived. It's easier to say than to act, though...

Nippon Kaigi is a fraud, half-assed ultranationalist organization. They want to see the re-run Imperial Japan as a great power being respected by all as well as instilling nationalism into younger generations. However, they also kowtow to the West who ruined Japan twice through World War 2 and Plaza Accord. Especially, these Nippon Kaigi frauds entertain the idea of joining the Anglosphere, while they see themselves as masters of Asians.

A lot of nutcase contradictories and delusions within this organization makes the CIA using them as useful idiots.

The prosecutors office won't charge Abe.

As I predicted, the USA protects Abe's ass for his jobs in creating the Indo-Pacific league. Still, it does not excuse the guy from rejecting the Aegis missile systems which cost his PM position in the first place.

To be blunt, China is pretty much the biggest sugar daddy of Japan now, soon there will be Vietnam. Now and for a long time, China will be the most important partner for Japan. Nikai is a realist who sees that the USA won't provide much for Japan in the long run. Japan should seek multilateralism for self-strengthening independence. Of course, Nikai's efforts failed as every Japanese leader in the past, thanks to the CIA.

Maybe it's a good window of opportunity for lawmakers who try to "drain the swamps" of China sympathizers or spies

The LDP should start with the Keidanren. The entire Japan INC has been corrupted by the Communists from China and Vietnam for decades now.

Japan continues to raise its military spending. Suga just follows Abe's policy without a second thought. Don't trusting him as a moderate leader. He is already hurting neighboring countries for no apparently rational reasons..

2 ( +3 / -1 )

In reality Suga's job hasn't changed just the badge changed from Member of Parliament to a Prime Minister and that is because Abe is still the real Prime Minister and Suga's is still the Government spokesman. Abe's gang of elitist leaders of Japan would never give a such a position to a farmers son from Akita. They chose Suga because he is their obedient puppy... And he is doomed to failure because he is not his own man.

Doesnt matter what Suga’s support is, Japanese voters always support their local nobility.. ahem political families. A politician can have 1% support nationwide, but as long as he is born from the correct regional noble family, he will be getting his landslide victory in elections. So nothing will change in terms of the elected officials. Political families switching political allegiances to different parties would change the ruling bloc, but voters cannot as there’s a significant number of the voter base who sees heritage as legitimacy that they will never voter against those families.

That's more prevalent in the countryside but by a happy coincidence for the LDP it's become depopulated and all they need to do to ensure conservative rural politicians outnumber more progressive urban ones is neglect to redraw the electoral district maps. Compliant stooges in the Supreme Court have proven more than once they won't do a single thing about it.

Suga has already repeated "withhold answer" over hundred times about such as academic freedom suppression or previous prime minister issue during three months since start of Suga government.

Suga is an idiot he supports go travel in a pandemic, goes out and drinks with cronies but tells the rest of us stay home and refuses to call an emergency where us struggling won't receive stimulus checks who are struggling. This man needs to go, I would like to see an individual like the leader of Osaka who comes out and speaks directly and appears to cares about people and peoples' lives.
