As long those LNG is in discount price compared to global price, right? So it will benefit Japanese people?
The_Beagle
Way cheaper from Russia and the Middle East.

Grovelling, even a US government worker put more resistance against Trump than the PM

Fleece that Japan - they're rich

Well, you just went public with it, so what's the strategy? You already showed your cards so now you're going to have to give that crook the LNG plus something else. He'll see Ishiba and Japan as weak since they are already giving things up even before the meeting so he'll demand more.

Pitiful isn't it. A comprador rushing off to make a tribute to the empire.
This is a textbook case of what one example of lack of sovereignty looks like in practice.

the lng thing is minor. the direct question he needs to ask trump is this: what are you going to do when china seizes taiwan?
trump won’t answer him directly. he’ll ramble something without commitment.
if trump gets mixed up in gaza, tries something militarily with panama, china will continue its started goal of taking taiwan in 2027.
and trump won’t care. if anything, he’ll have the u.s. military take out the advanced chip factories, since they’ll be up and operating in the u.s.
that’s it. all the money, both u.s. and japanese, having u.s. military presence in japan will have been wasted. it’s not a deterrence at all.
japan could say that if you don’t defend taiwan and chinese encroachment, you can pull your troops out of japan. japan has the capability and capacity to build a nuclear deterrence. that’s why they haven’t signed the non proliferation agreements.
ishiba needs to make “japan first” his new slogan.

Japan should stop all plans to buy LNG from the US. Buy more from Middle East

Israel will cooperate with Japan on stealing oil and LNG in Middle East. Israel has strong armed forces in Middle East

I said daimyo to the Emperor the other day. Apologies, I meant daimyo to the Shogun

Too bad relations with Russia isn’t better to the point of importing energy. That’s the way to gain Trump’s respect not buy more from the U.S.

More success by Trump.
And it hasn't even been one month.

LNG from the US is limited because of the lack of port terminals to turn the gas into liquid. There are no port terminals on the West Coast. The LNG from Indonesia and the Middle East is nearer.

Perhaps we should mention the topic of LNG from the American market, far from clean compared to Russian natural gas. From the time that it is extracted using a destructive drilling method called fracking, liquefied natural gas leaves a greenhouse gas footprint that is 33% worse than coal, when processing and shipping are taken into account, according to a new Cornell study.
LNG terminals release harmful air pollutants—such as volatile organic compounds, nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide, and particulate matter—that can contribute to increased incidences of respiratory disease, heart disease, and cancer.
Indeed, a 2019 study attributed a decade of growth in global atmospheric methane emissions to the fracking boom in the United States.
What's more, LNG — which the U.S. sends in by the ton — is by definition much more expensive than Russian gas.

Japan imports LNG from Indonesia, Australia, and the Middle East. It is also importing lower amounts.

Lmao imagine giving in to demands before demands are made. I’ve thought Japanese politicians were fairly weak before but this is a new low

Another win, thanks Japan!

But does not come with the stigma of doing business with the Russian's currently invading a peaceful nation.
Regardless of that they buy the worlds best LNG from Australia, so have no need of dirty Russian gas used to fund Russia's invasion.

Since Biden, the yen has jumped from 156 to 152 in no time. This is the kind of "success" we can all buy into.
If Trump gets us back to 115-120 I'll sing his praises too!

Ishiba to pledge more LNG imports from U.S. in bootlicking exercise with Trump.
Headline fixed for you.

the lng thing is minor. the direct question he needs to ask trump is this: what are you going to do when china seizes taiwan?
I seen an article on US news (I do not have much faith in it) the Us Secretary for State (translations welcome) has already stated (some days b4) that US does not believe in Taiwan independence. followed very quickly about Taiwan taxes. Not the topic. just answering PN.

Sounds to me like the US should consider the US Steel sale to Nippon Steel, provided Japan will not only buy US LNG on long term contracts to replace their Russian source, as well as provide the financing to build USWC LNG terminals.

Which takes us to to one of the reasons as to why the US administration planned this enlargement of Nato on the Eastern Europe front, as well as the business of the warlords in Washington, with over $110 billions provided through lethal weapons, which prompted the historical record at Wall Street.
Since the outbreak of war in Ukraine and disruptions in pipeline flows from Russia, the United States has increased LNG sales to Europe by 140 percent.
quercetum
Of course it was to increase sales to Europe. Anything to eliminate a stronger competitor.
TaiwanIsNotChina
Japan has 100% more UN recognition than russia's disgraces. Also Japan is probably less dependent on the US than russia is on China at this point.
Zaphod
The same foolish mistake that Europe is making. Instead of buying cheap and reliable gas from Russia, they want to rely on US made LNG at several times the cost and not necessarily available, since Trump will prioritize domestic energy safety. (And will stop plundering the strategic reserve, which was Biden "brilliant" policy).
Zaphod
Peter14
Simplistic talking point, ignoring all context.
You are aware that Europe (and most probably Japan) also gets LNG and crude oil from Russia, via India, only at several times the cost?
The stupidity of the political virtue signalling is baffling.
