Sounds to me like the US should consider the US Steel sale to Nippon Steel, provided Japan will not only buy US LNG on long term contracts to replace their Russian source, as well as provide the financing to build USWC LNG terminals.

The same foolish mistake that Europe is making. Instead of buying cheap and reliable gas from Russia, they want to rely on US made LNG at several times the cost and not necessarily available, since Trump will prioritize domestic energy safety. (And will stop plundering the strategic reserve, which was Biden "brilliant" policy).

You are aware that Europe (and most probably Japan) also gets LNG and crude oil from Russia, via India, only at several times the cost?
