Oh Mr. Kono...how about worrying about your own corrupt government?

Trump's unleashed the demons in America's Pandora's box and his followers, particularly those in his white nationalist base, will continue to try to take America back to what they thought were 'good old days', i.e. the days when separate but equal (hardly) kept peoples divided and apart. It could be Trump and his Republicans have humpty-dumpty-ed the country.

I think what Mr Kono is stating is a time when America could be a trusted partner, not someone going off the deep end like it did during the Trump administration. A trusted partner that could be counted on, not some kind of third world tin pot dictatorship.
Kazumichi
Kono for the next PM please.

And why didnt you open your mouth and say something while you were foreign minister? You are supposed to be smart enough to have seen all the BS happening with Trump when you held your old job, and all the BS after the elections, you could have stepped up and said something.
But no, just like everyone else, you never said anything about the cesspool of crap that was coming out of Washington!
Yubaru
Why? Because he can supposedly speak English? If that's the only requirement, I know plenty of HS kids that would probably be better at it than him!

Kono "urges" another country about "Rule of Law". I don't really think that Japan is in any position to urge others, regarding any aspect law considering Japan.s own backyard is a cesspit in that respect.

The demons were unleashed by globalization, which elevated and enriched communist dictatorships like China, while more and more Americans had to collect food stamps for survival even while working hard full-time for the likes of greedy globalist corporates like Walmart and Amazon.
Free trade ain't free. Under Trump, median US households wages rose 6.8 percent in 2019, while free trade was curtailed. Now, the poor and dispossed face losing their short-lived gains.
Read history. You''ll find these violent, radical movements are inevitable when inequality has reached the level it has today.

Yes, yes, yes.
Return to the good old days of summer when the attempted invasion of federal buildings, sacking of police stations, destruction of minority owned businesses and good, clean mayhem on the streets of Minneapolis, Seattle, Portland, Philly and Kenosha were merely the work of over enthusiastic social justice warriors. Yes, indeed.

Hear, hear.

Which 'good old days' is he referring to? When those "good old boys" who stormed the Capitol would have gotten off scot-free? Kono surely would have had a hard time during those days too. America has been through many crises and will weather this and come out stronger. Those insurrectionists were never going to succeed and will only be an ugly blip on the radar of history when this is all said and done. Look around. Just what did they really accomplish? A bad look and a huge failure: The second impeachment of their zero, loss of their jobs, federal charges and jail time for many, death for some. I look forward to the good news days

straight from the Showa era.......They will never change.

A former member of the Japanese government preaching democracy. You have to laugh.
Yotomaya
When exactly was that?

No, Mr. Kono, have a more closer and detailed look. It’s all not so very much about their democracy. The president never has been elected by the people directly, but only by a few elite members of the electoral college. No, that hasn’t been changed, but the composition of the population very much has, and therefore now the majorities, the behavior of all those many fractions, their completely opposing point of views , capabilities and the common scaring future outlook, performed by that new majority. Compared to the old days....lol

Kono is as dumb as his dad.
What's happening in America is a "beautiful sight", according to Nancy Pelosi
Ego Sum Lux Mundi
No such thing as "good old days" ever since Eve took a bite of that apple and told Adam to try it.
cleo
Nope.
She described what happened in HK (protesters storming the Legislative Council Complex)as 'a beautiful sight', and China picked her up on it, saying there was no difference between protesters storming the HK government building and protesters storming the US government building, and that the US was guilty of double standards.
Can't say I really blame China for giving in to the temptation to indulge in a bit of schadenfreude, but there's no need to put words into her mouth.

If we can keep the lunatic in the White House from blowing up the world for the next five days, and Nancy Pelosi said in front of the cameras that she has been assured by the highest career military officer that orders to use nuclear weapons will not be followed unless the USA is attacked first, then normalcy will return.

People suddenly opening their mouths now while saying nada before. Too little too late.

The title is intentionally misleading and doesn’t include the actual context until the final paragraph, far past the point where the Internet age attention span reads to.
So basically, all he said was, “I remember when I worked in Washington. The Dems and Reps had their differences, but were good friends outside of the capitol.”
Somehow this makes him all that’s wrong with society and democracy.
