Politics is not about popularity contests among politicians, its about those particular parties and the promises of their manifesto that got them elected .So far the LDP has failed and is continuing to fail, Abe is not a God to be worshiped, he is just the head of the LDP and thats all he is. Similar to a CEO of a large corporation, and if your not successful you will be replaced, the business community finds this practice simple and effective.

These guys are like a characters in an Ayn Rand novel; they have let things fall apart believing they are entitled to everything and that it should just fall in their laps, all gather around and panic about the situation, still convincing themselves that everything's fine and people should give them power and influence all the same -- that it's not fair if others get some even though they work for it, and that they are entitled to the fruits of said work.
Then they just let things fall apart and whimper the whole while, looking for someone to save them.

Indeed, I think Abe will have to do something pretty impressive to turn this around but I can't imagine what. I can see more results like this coming in, though, and LDP politicians who have put their leadership ambitions on hold getting their knives out. It's usually every man for himself in conservative parties, and they don't tolerate failure for long.
