I doubt he would be missed if he didnt attend.

Nikai and Komeito party did right thing to push Abe out. Neighbors should be always Japan's priority in policy making. Abe is shifting his position and changing his attitude, that is a good thing. Quite honestly, Japan owes a lot to neighbors. Abe must firm on this: whatever you do, you do not hurt neighbors. For the past 70 years, Northeast Asia is very peaceful, thanks to all neighbors, and that makes what Northeast Asia is today, prosperous. I wish Abe a big success in meeting neighbors and launch a big project in unifying Northeast Asia economically, culturally, and politically.

Japan tried this once, it was called the Great East Asia Co-prosperity Sphere, and look how that turned out.
Abe has done MUCH to hurt relations between the neighbors here with his cold-war type thinking, and his desire to make Japan a military might in the region. Abe is NOT going to be know for peace, that is for sure!

I wonder if he is packing his childish Mario cosplay gear again?

Comedy gold!
Today:
Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga, the government's top spokesman, struck a cautious tone, saying in a press conference that attending Diet sessions is the top priority for the prime minister
Monday
The ruling bloc plans to propose allowing Prime Minister Shinzo Abe to spend less time attending Diet meetings during the upcoming ordinary session.

So, Abe’sschedule is too busy for him to meet and discuss nuclear weapons, according to a Suga, butvge he can ask the entire nation to adjust its schedule for his personal plans? Priorities, eh?

@buraku. Thank you for making my day!

Super Mario needs attention, a bit of cosplay can indeed stop a government. Luigi must be sad.

If he doesn't go, then that will send the wrong message. He should go, and if he does, I'll cut him a little slack in my book.
Sport should never be about politics folks.
Goodlucktoyou
disagree, this is our last hope before trump attacks.

Nobody is attacking NK without China and Russia's agreement. End of.

As Alfie stated - Lies upon Lies.
It's ok to shutdown the diet on the first day of procedings (last September) to call a totally unwanted snap election, which was an act to essentially avoid hard questioning about corrupt practices, thereby missing weeks of valuable diet business.
Now we're being told he will try to make time in his oh so busy schedule to go to the Olympics opening in Japan's closest neighbouring country. How magnanimous of him if he can go!!!
And as Japan is the host of the next Olympics, not going would be a double insult.
No - he is afraid there may be a protest against him that the world media might pick up on. Like scaredy Trump not going to London.
I'm sure he will go, as the negative pressure is building so much, that he will surely lose more face than if he doesn't go.

JaneM2, If Abe goes, it will give Koreans a wrong message that it be OK for them not to abide by any agreements.

Keep war-mongering Abe here and send the Crown Prince instead.
