U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and Canadian Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland were among a number of officials who walked out of a Group of 20 meeting Wednesday when Russia’s representative started talking.

Taking cues from social networking, performance theater as politics.

People die but markets are maintained.

until these organizations are democracies-only they'll continue to be useless

the “need for cooperation” to solve big world problems.

Today, the Russian invasion of Ukraine is the main big problem.

That and my great grandkids will inherit a very different world if Russia isn't contained and climate change isn't massively addressed with very difficult solutions by the largest polluters ASAP. Those are India and China last time I looked.

we can't wait for other countries, continually waiting on the lowest demoniator nation has been nothing but a waste of time

@Bronco: that's certainly an optimistic interpretation... Russia was ousted from the Human Rights Council as a result of this vote, meaning the US proposal succeeded. Oh right, Russia "quit" the council right before the vote showed they were expelled.

G7 and G20 should be disbanded and a new organisation formed a one that comprises of countries that respect each others borders and human rights! I am especially concerned with Russia, China, Brazil and S.Africa being on a world stage pushing their fascist inhumane ideology.

The world is more than just the US and UK.

not according to Western Media. Their combined population may only be around 420m out of 7800m, but they have good, solid white Christian post-slavery values. That is why everything they mandate ARE the “International Community”. It’s like an airplane. G7 flies First Class, G20 Business Class, the rest Economy Class. Russia has a First Class ticket, but none of the cabin crew can speak Russia.

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has blamed NATO for the war in Ukraine.

I am so tired of this bogus argument. Why did NATO expand eastward? Because all the former Soviet block countries feared being invaded by Russia. The war in Ukraine justifies this fear. Vlad wants the old Soviet Union back. He said so himself!

Vlad wants the old Soviet Union back. He said so himself!

This is true. The Great Game of centuries past never really ended.

USA and UK calling out Russia for war crimes.

Pot calling the kettle black .

Why didn't the international community call out the USA and UK etc out for war crimes in Iraq / Afghanistan etc.

I see this as one rule for them another for the rest.

G20 meeting will be held in Indonesia and many Indonesians are openly supporting Russia because Indonesia has a very strong anti-West sentiment. Indonesians view the West as being hypocrites for crying foul over Russia's invasion of Ukraine and yet supporting Israel against Palestine.

The other factor common to other third world countries is that the erstwhile Soviet Union supported Indonesia in its early days after independence from the Dutch.

The US-led world order should introspect as to why there is so much of support for Russia in the third world and whether their own foreign policies have something to do with it.

The USA isn't really leading the world .

It just thinks it is.

G7 and G20 should be disbanded and a new organisation formed a one that comprises of countries that respect each others borders and human rights

That wouldn’t work because the US would be disqualified. It is the No. 1 economy and without it any new organization would be rendered is significant.

This system is wrong if you cannot kick out Russia from the G7 or the G20. If it does not work in todays political environment, change it or dismantle it.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

G20, United Nations, etc versus the Conscience of humanity. Russian army may advance in Ukraine but Russian culture won't make any progress in coming decades. Finally, political or military power is not enough. Nations also need prestige.

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

So sick of the USA thinking they are the world and that every single country has to agree with them or else.

2 ( +6 / -4 )

China + India + Russia = 2.9 billion people, and 29.98 million square kilometers.

The US never imagined that Russia has a better reputation in Asia than they.

Every freedom loving/enjoying person and country has the US to thank for those freedoms . Including Russia… including those of you here freely expressing your views . 3 things make the USA the envy of the world , freedom, economics, and military might ! The US economy has been #1 for decades for all of the obvious reasons and these few others…. Oil is traded by the 44 GALLON barrel. Gold is traded internationally by the OUNCE. The US constitution does not allow for America to default on its debt . Hence the US dollar is always the currency every single commodity is valued at… oil … gold …. Other currencies…. Military might ? No doubt … it’s not that America is a bully , every time they say okay … change the currency things are traded on…. Everyone backs away from the conversation… when needed … the US military is deployed…. The US doesn’t start wars … it ends them…. Freedom? Go ahead … go become a citizen of any communist country…. Regime … I will say I’m shocked the entire international community has not put Putin and Russia in its place…. Yet …. Guess they’re waiting for the 1st errant shot….

In the recent vote at the UN whereby the US tried to oust Russia from the Human Rights Council, 100 countries ( a majority) refused to vote in favor of the US proposal.

100 countries !!!!

Incorrect. 93 for, 24 against, 58 abstentions

You could argue that 82 did not vote to remove Russia, you could also argue that 151 did not vote against removing Russia. Either way the 93 for was more than enough to have Russia removed.

Russia's importance to the globe's corporate establishment lies in its ability to serve as a gas station for the global fossil's corporations. Russia as a nation of people has little else to offer the world beyond what lies under its soil. Russia has other natural resources the globe's establishment want. And the world can expect Putin and his Kremlin to continue their territorial land grabs to take military control over territories around the world, like the Arctic, that have resources the Kremlin wants to take to make Putin and themselves richer and more powerful. Putin and the globe's fossil barons need the world to continue burning huge amounts of fossil fuels and consuming more resources, while their efforts contribute even more to climate change, in Russia the permafrost will melt faster releasing a methane time bomb. https://phys.org/news/2018-12-permafrost-climate.html.

While climate change related disasters continue to threaten future generations, Putin and the Kremlin's stormtroopers will keep killing off children in the lands they have invaded. And blame other people for causing the problems. The sooner Putin is laid side by side with Lenin for permanent viewing the better. Extreme rightists and ultra-nationalists if you want a world ruled by BRIC nations you cannot complain if that happens.

Just chaotic, the world is...

World interests for natural resource are to be shared not by surficial territorial area on the grove of each sovereign nations

2.9 billion people live in a dictator's country. Go to YouTube to see how Shanghainese are being repressed. Hahaha. Interesting things happen when Russian military operations fail. Numbers do not represent democracy and correctness, because most people are stupid, so they live in poverty, they work for dictators for free and they praise dictators.

Isolating Russia from the world's economy would be the most responsible action by the G16 - and by that I mean removing not only Russia but also South Africa, Brazil and China. Let them go their own way. The world does NOT need to be 'collaborative'. It needs a clean look at right and wrong. But, that's not politics.

@Kyo wa heiwa dayo ne

your acknowledgement already confirmed what you really don’t know.

The USA isn't really leading the world .

It just thinks it is.

While Russia has been rendered a pariah country by Western states

1 Russia is not and never was Western state.

2 Talking about "paria nations" sounds a little bit like III Reich speeches about Ubermensch and Untermenschen

Russia as a nation of people has little else to offer the world beyond what lies under its soil.

Yeah... we are not selling democracy and common human values...

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

well it seems that image of Russia is not bad at all?

maybe thanks to this daily media rusophobia massages did own part as many understand that reality may be a bit different than pictured by "verified media"?
