"The visit will definitely take place," Lavrov said."

No doubt at all that this is related in some form directly to the deteriorating Russian relations with the US and NATO over Ukraine. Looks like Russia is either preparing for worst case scenarios, or looking for an intermediary.

@marcelito

The fact they are there to meet with Lavrov disagrees.

Free Navalny. No kowtow please.

what about Assange ?

ah yes, it's not a Russian prisoner but a UK one...

@marcelito

Kishida and Hayashi maintain a stable and friendly country where Lavrov can come and discuss business.

3 ( +7 / -4 )

Nothing will come out of this.

Will the visit be before or after Putin's invasion of Ukraine?

If Russia is smart they should return the few uninhabitable little islands to Japan asap.

"One who defends everything defends nothing". I forgot who said it but it's pretty applicable to Russiaas current circumstance

I look forward to a group of heavily set men in leather coats and cups of tea for all arriving for “talks”.

If Japan wants those Islands back its only patience as Broke Russia cant keep up with the funding on running those islands n Japan should not b fooled around into co development activity like Russia plans Russia even has invited SKorea for financial help n developing those island n Russia should not go on making too many enemies just bcoz it has a nuke

That’s a rather strange logic, because now not giving back the Northern territory islands requires or underlines the necessity of U.S. supported defense as otherwise one could surely expect they take even more territory. But otherwise, giving back the occupied islands and signing the peace treaty would be a very generous and peaceful sign so that less of or postponing of more U.S. missile defense is possible and even that complained potential threat to Russia would also be very much decreasing. How about that simple logical and most pragmatic solution, Mr. Lavrov & Mr. Putin?

@marcelito

To the other readers, I didn't mean any sarcasm.

Please don't misread my post.

Might be an opportunity to arrest him and send him to the Hague to answer for crimes against humanity.

@Michael Machida - America hasn't finished anything for quite a long time now. They are not really a scary proposition to Russia.

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

Talk about what...

Russian lies they keep telling Japan for years about returning the Islands.

Or

Talk about Russian aggression by taking Crimea in 2014 and now again in 2022 they want more. Bigger list of demands this time.

By the way:

You give Russia a pass with weakness and refusing to send troops to Ukraine.

Don't be surprised when Xi Jinping, a much bigger fish decides to make a move on Taiwan.

The good news keep flooding in.

Very nice Japan.

Thanks Kishida and Hayashi for masterful diplomacy.

"The visit will definitely take place," Lavrov said.

Meaning no invasion of Ukraine. If Russia invades there will be no visit.

Or maybe it is a smokescreen.

3 ( +8 / -5 )

Russia is playing a dangerous game that America will happily finish.

1 ( +8 / -7 )

Perhaps they should just ask “why. Unless he is coming with concrete proposals for returning the illegally occupied islands, please do not waste your and our time.”

Might just possibly get Russia’s attention and push home the message their behaviour has consequences. It’s not as if Japan has that much to lose in the case of Russia.

3 ( +11 / -8 )

But as always Jgov will make excuses to break relationships with its neighbours.

Be careful...

Free Navalny. No kowtow please.

Accepting such visits makes oneself accomplice.
