A good day to celebrate would be 08 February 1904 the attack upon the Russia fleet at Port Arthur. Another would be 02 February 1905 the surrender of Port Arthur. Then there is the glorious Japanese victory in the Battle of Tsushima 28 May 1905. Lastly the treaty of Portsmouth 05 September 1905. I wonder how the Russians would like that, to celebrate our victories over them! I just do not think a peace treaty is possible. Japan does not need their gas and oil. Japan can all that is needed from the middle east. As to exporting to Russia it is so small an amount of the total picture.

Anyhow Russia refuses talks over the Northern Territories. I say let the Russians sell their products to China. Oh fyi in the Russo-Japanese war the Russian troops burned many towns and villages in Manchuria. < http://en.europeonline-magazine.eu/russia-declines-to-restart-talks-with-japan-over-disputed-islands_409884.html>

Hey today is the anniversary of Japans victory over Russia. The 100th anniversary!

Japan should a memorial to commemorate the victory in the Russo-Japanese War, see how moscow likes them apples

turbotsat think the people of Okinawa would be happy with the closing of the Marine bases. Downsizing the remaining bases, there is room for real talks. Oh please the total population of Russia is 143 million and Japan is 127 million. The military is about 700k and those 20 million is assuming a Soviet like call up. So the 20 million is untrained bodies and there is no equipment for them.

JW: You are forgetting the US forces that are there to defend Japan

Japanese want USA out, say voiceofokinawa, YuriOtani, et al. If LDP leaves office, USA may be invited out in short order.

President Vladimir Putin should be tried as war crime for his involvement in shooting down Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 and murdering 298 passengers and crews and invading Ukraine. Putin is modern era Hitler.

YuriOtaniSEP. 04, 2015 - 10:31PM JST: There is nothing to accept, Russia stole those islands from Japan. What Russia is doing is helping Abe change Japan from a pacifist nation to a militant one. I do not want to see this but Putin really pisses me off!

Well saidmy friend

Abe has no choice but to accept.

There is nothing to accept, Russia stole those islands from Japan. What Russia is doing is helping Abe change Japan from a pacifist nation to a militant one. I do not want to see this but Putin really pisses me off!

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Putin says he is open to talks about resolving the territorial dispute regarding the islands then he pulls crap like this? This just proves that the word of any Russian leader is as valuable as a snowball in Antarctica: WORTHLESS

"Russia risks Japanese anger"

Nonsense.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Uhm uhm, this is just Russia's way of showing China that they too have the military prowess, and that China's parade doesn't scare Russian and Japanese alliance.

Yes, yes, let's stick with this narrative.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Strange that people support this Russian parade but lambasted the Chinese one marking 70th anniversary of the end of WW2. But, then again, most JT members will criticize China every chance they get.

Japan says to shut up about Yasukuni, but Japan says they are angry over what Russia does in their own land, celebrating victory in war that Japan started. Japan started the war and lost the war, it's fitting that as punishment, it loses territory. Why can't Japan move on from history?

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

It'll do nothing but provoke some "regrettable" comments, and people saying, "This makes the Japanese people sad!"

That's all. They are Russian islands, they can do what they like with them.

@ wtrJapan Really spot on !! The Bear in the Kremlin doesn't give a f@k about the Tokyo " warriors" stolen out of a kids story book. Tokyo knows it, and it should serve them well to know it well into the foreseeable future. By the way, Yamamoto Isoroku set off from one of these islands to stealthily go and bomb Pearl Habour. It won't happen again, It's Russian territory now . Tokyo is welcome to throw all the tantrums it wants.

Russia risks Japanese anger with Far East war commemoration

Er, no . It may provoke a few tuts and grumbles though.

1 ( +4 / -3 )

No japanese PMs and their cabinet were serious to get back those isles except for political purposes beside kicking up anti Russian dusts. Just like 1903 then japanese debatIng Russian influences in Korea and Manchuria has threatened japan.

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Russia risks Japanese anger like Putin and Russians really care or are afraid of Japans anger. LOL

2 ( +4 / -2 )

Russia risks Japanese anger with Far East war commemoration

So?

1 ( +5 / -4 )

What's wrong with the Russian leaders these days? Perhaps some kind of power struggle is going on in Kremlin.
