They will miss summer holiday in Vorkuta. For sure :D

1 ( +1 / -0 )

asked my Russian friend a few years ago whether any place in Russia is good for foreign tourists. he just shook his head and said go somewhere else

Really? Did he really forget that St Petersburg is famously one of the world's most beautiful cities?

How forgetful of him.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

They should all wear it as a badge of honour, “I was sanctioned by russia! I must be doing something right!”

Summer holidays in Siberia are off kids, sorry! We will just have to enjoy our selves instead.

I see the usual russian apologists ate desperately trying to make this look good or distract from reality, sad really.

2 ( +4 / -2 )

And yet (as reported in JT) only 3% of Japanese firms have pulled out of Russia. Meaning that the rest are still there, still operating in Russia, still paying taxes to Putin and helping him to pay for his military. Including the government-owned firm Japan Tobacco.

Many of these are government owned. I would hope Russia doesn’t invade Japan. It would turn Japan into East Japan and West Japan like Korea.

US and Russia fighting in Japan and would destroy the country like Ukraine. Japan needs to stay out and mind its own business.

Focus on trade and making money. Build something then sell it or make money using money. Don’t make money from making wars.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

It's incredibly foolish to assume Russia won't target Japan in some way.

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

The 380 Diet members were not sanctioned to avoid them from travelling to Russia. I believe they were sanctioned to show Japan that there is no way to negotiate anything with Russia in future. This could last for years until a normalization can get hold again. In meantime the Northern Territories are a distant Fatha Morghana

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Russia: "We invaded another country and have been brutally murdering their citizens, many of whom are children and babies.

Any evidences? Confirmed facts? Other way it is just another hysterical myth.

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

At least Russia only ban Japanese lawmakers. Other normal Japanese are still welcome to go Russia.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

This is a European problem, not a Japanese problem! Drop all Russian sanctions immediately. It's an excellent chance for Japan to gain a very large economic advantage over Europe and USA.

It's not about economic advantage. Besides, Japan lost any such economic advantage years ago.

0 ( +2 / -2 )

Why aren’t the usuals here bleating “sanctions don’t work!” ?

One is a failed attempt to crash Russia’s economy. This is a tit for tat retaliation and has no expectations of being effective. If Japan responds it will escalate. Russia is saying to Japan, bring it on rising sun.

Sanctions don’t work. Russian money is stronger than before. Russian relationship with India and China is strengthened. The Saudi’s will trade oil in non-USD. Oil supply is affecting prices. This is the epitome of failure to see more than one move ahead or shooting oneself in the foot.

Tariffs don’t work either. Americans are paying more as the tariffs just get passed down to the average consumer. Biden is considering removing Chinese tariffs. They will eventually unsanction Russia with the next administration change. The US has chosen questionable strategy again, but it’s not a surprise.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Er. Russia just gave the finger to Japan. In a big way.

Ooops.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

Those 380 Are now cyber targets.

Oh wait, 383. Mr Sakurada doesn’t use computers or know what a usb is.

Probably not alone so I doubt any Russian hackers will hit paydirt by ‘cyber targeting’ anyone on that list. Still, keeps them busy I suppose.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Those 380 Are now cyber targets.

Or did you forget how Russia plays.

Obviously they aren't going to Russia and that's precisely what putin wants.

Its a political mayhem in Japan right now and will get worse

-4 ( +1 / -5 )

There you go Japan. Hopefully a lesson learned. Stay out of other country's business. You have enough problems at home that need be taken care of.

Yeah Japan, stay out of other countries business but listen to me tell you about your business.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Probably 380 of them have never been to nor intended to go to Putin Land.

6 ( +6 / -0 )

I bet the lawmakers were all thinking of taking their summer vacations near one of the gulags in Siberia. Oh well, I guess Okinawa will have to suffice.

4 ( +4 / -0 )

"Fascist Russia, facist Russia".. You're funny.. lol..

What isn't fascist about Putin's Russia?

8 ( +12 / -4 )

-12 ( +3 / -15 )

Well done Japan, those are your consecuences, keep doing stupid things to please the pathetic interventionist whims of the US..

Bye bye northern territories bye byeeeeeee!!!................

This is a European problem, not a Japanese problem! Drop all Russian sanctions immediately. It's an excellent chance for Japan to gain a very large economic advantage over Europe and USA.

Well said, finally someone with brains..

Pointless now. Fascist Russia is a rogue dictatorship that follows zero international rules of law.

This is a European problem, not a Japanese problem!

This is a world problem. When the largest country wants to get even bigger by invading and annexing territory it is a problem for everyone as it sets a new example for other strong nations in today's world. That is a concern for everyone.

Drop all Russian sanctions immediately.

Why would you want to help an invader? Does Japan hate Ukraine? No it doesn't. Increase sanctions on Russia.

It's an excellent chance for Japan to gain a very large economic advantage over Europe and USA.

By becoming evil (like Russia) and helping in the eradication of friendly Ukraine. No thanks.

8 ( +10 / -2 )

Right because everyone wants to go to Russia anyway, sounds like a fun place.

asked my Russian friend a few years ago whether any place in Russia is good for foreign tourists. he just shook his head and said go somewhere else

4 ( +8 / -4 )

and it’s the these countries that will freeze to death. Odd how the “righteous” pro-NATO proxy war Europeans and MSM ignore this FACT.

oh last I checked the vast majority of 3rd world countries were in Africa sth American and sth Asia,

hardly what id call cold winters like Europe

-1 ( +4 / -5 )

Oh dear, where ever will they go to secure their poor-quality brand knockoff goods now?

2 ( +6 / -4 )

Fighto!Today  08:52 am JST

Japan needs to take Russia to the ICJ over their illegal occupation of the 4 islands

Pointless now. Fascist Russia is a rogue dictatorship that follows zero international rules of law. If Putler is happy to illegally invade sovereign nations and commit war crimes, the ICJ is the last thing he is going to abide.

Not pointless Fighto. Russia will not abide by any ICJ ruling and in fact wont even respond. We all know this.

But it strengthens Japan's position to try, and even better get a default judgement in it's favor. The benefits are twofold;

It strengthens Japan's position if any further negotiations on the 4 islands continue.

It strengthens and justifies Japan's position if all hell breaks loose and Japan has to militarily confront Russian aggression.

Don't forget that the U.S., UK and EU all support Japan on the issue of the Southern Kuriles.

0 ( +6 / -6 )

I’d say Russia did those legislators a solid

2 ( +5 / -3 )

Christian internecine killing in the former USSR territory is not something that Japan should poke its nose into. But Japan has no choice when it's at the behest of the US military-industrial complex.

-10 ( +3 / -13 )

How many of them have been to Russia?

probably 20% have business investments, and when doing business with Russians, you have to meet personally and hand over a brown “make things go smoothly” envelope in return for raking in millions of profit. This will hurt a lot of them diet guys seriously.

-16 ( +4 / -20 )

Moscow said the measures were taken against those who had "taken an unfriendly, anti-Russian position."

Russia: "We invaded another country and have been brutally murdering their citizens, many of whom are children and babies. But other countries are being mean to us, by sanctioning us. Waahh".

Grow the hell up, Russia! You sound more immature than my 4 year old daughter when she's having an off day.

14 ( +20 / -6 )

It is rather comical that commenters here, Japanese and others, condemn Russia so vociferously for 'invading' a Sovereign state. Hmmn, nothing Japan has ever done, of course, nor Britain, Germany, France, Holland, Belgium, the 'Great Satan' (USA), Norway, Rome.

Use your noggin pal. Why do you think people are commenting about what is happening now, in an article about what is happening now rather than talking about what happened decades or centuries ago?

Think about it, then comment.

Wise words. Give it a whirl.

8 ( +12 / -4 )

Right because everyone wants to go to Russia anyway, sounds like a fun place.

8 ( +12 / -4 )

its called equality.

action-reaction.

dont expect that Russia will just sit quietly and will do nothing.

Japan shuld change its stance from pro UA position to peace negotiatior position.earlier-better.

-6 ( +5 / -11 )

Really what can Russia actually do

Russia can do alot and be pure evil as we can see.

I'd say Japan should count its blessings and try to bow out gracefully to Russia and focus on being independent and have an active yet pacifist military.

-14 ( +2 / -16 )

We need to start making plans on what to do in a Nuclear attack

Definitely top post of 2022 so far.

-6 ( +5 / -11 )

We need to start making plans on what to do in a Nuclear attack

Don't be so melodramatic

6 ( +11 / -5 )

The Russians have just ruined the summer vacation plans of precisely zero Japanese politicians.

16 ( +20 / -4 )

Another warning. Japan has been busy poking them while busy now Japan has Russia's attention.

-1 ( +5 / -6 )

Japan should not try to be the leader of security in the Asia-Pacific .

Japan should definitely have the ability to protect itself but however involving itself in other nations conflicts isn't a wise decision.

-7 ( +7 / -14 )

In Tokyo, being in a subway station wont help much - the mass panic getting there will probably kill you in the first place, then when the bomb goes off, the air will be sucked out...

-1 ( +6 / -7 )

We need to start making plans on what to do in a Nuclear attack

-5 ( +7 / -12 )

This is a European problem

You are aware that most of Russia is part of Asia ?

1 ( +8 / -7 )

Japan needs to go to the next level and send its military to take back all disputed territory with Russia

The ball is now in your court Putin

0 ( +10 / -10 )

This is a European problem, not a Japanese problem! Drop all Russian sanctions immediately. It's an excellent chance for Japan to gain a very large economic advantage over Europe and USA.

Great idea.

Allow China to outsource the murder and imprisonment of Uighurs to Japan, too. Lots of money to be made, Axel.

3 ( +11 / -8 )

I say screw Ruskies.

7 ( +16 / -9 )

expect to freeze to death in winter like European lapdogs.

Oh they won’t freeze to death. They’ll buy up all the LNG shipped to developing and theirs world countries…..cuz they can…..like they’re doing now….and it’s the these countries that will freeze to death. Odd how the “righteous” pro-NATO proxy war Europeans and MSM ignore this FACT.

-6 ( +7 / -13 )

Who are exempted from the sanctions? They must be Z-cult sympathizers.

-2 ( +4 / -6 )

6 ( +17 / -11 )

Just like an angry toddler throwing a tantrum, and just as dangerous.

8 ( +16 / -8 )

I'm sure those 384 politicians are devastated that they cannot visit that awful and dangerous country. Not.

6 ( +15 / -9 )

PTownsendToday 07:22 am JST

Putin's Russia have shown they are not afraid to use their military to invade and destroy neighboring countries while slaughtering women, children and other civilians.

How manu countries has Russia destroyed ? How about USA ? Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria.

Ukraine were slaughtering women, children and other civilians in the Donbass for 8 years until Russia finally had enough. 14 thousand civilians killed.

>

-9 ( +16 / -25 )

If you blindly follow the US, expect to freeze to death in winter like European lapdogs. And your economy destroyed, petrol rationing etc. expect no crab this winter. Russia hasn’t even started with japan yet.

-16 ( +11 / -27 )

Ossan,too the People Court

-5 ( +3 / -8 )

Japan needs to wake up and recognize Russia for what it is. They dragged Japan on with hopes for a Peace Treaty and some settlement on the 4 northern islands with no intention of actually addressing both. Japan needs to take Russia to the ICJ over their illegal occupation of the 4 islands. Russia would not dare invade Japan which hosts US bases.

Both Russia and China are a threat to the world, not just regional issues.

5 ( +17 / -12 )

No impact whatsoever, as I doubt the Japanese lawmakers in question were planning a trip to Moscow.

At this point being on that list is a badge of honor.

Will these sanctions by Russia actually affect the people targeted in any way? At least to me they seem more like Russia just going "You sanction us! AUGHH we'll sanction you!" and having a temper tantrum.

9 ( +16 / -7 )

China has been anti-Japanese, at the state level, based on what they teach and say IN PUBLIC THERE, so why would Japan want to have any more ties than necessary to a country like that?

The CCP says two different things - one for the outside, in English, and the other for internal use in Mandarin. It is usually funny how different the statements about the same thing are.

Remember, nothing stays on social media in China without approval by the CCP. Nothing. Anything the CCP doesn't like is scrubbed within a few minutes, completely. Always remember this.

Let's see when that happen up north.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

Tokyo has hit Russia with harsh sanctions, joining the G7 in freezing the central bank's assets, since Moscow sent tens of thousands of troops into Ukraine on Feb 24.

All of the G7 lawmakers exposed in the Panama and Pandora papers for their oligarchical dealings and impoverishing the populace should be sanctioned.

7 ( +11 / -4 )

PT,and how are Japanese gonna be independent with oil, drill wells in downtown Tokyo, Japanese probably got oil reserve off their coast

-3 ( +8 / -11 )

Like anybody would be foolish enough to visit a country that might arrest you, kidnap you and ransom you off for something. It would be as dumb as going to Iran.

No thanks!

14 ( +25 / -11 )

Really what can Russia actually do?

Putin's Russia have shown they are not afraid to use their military to invade and destroy neighboring countries while slaughtering women, children and other civilians. When a madman like Putin rules a nation like Russia, who knows what all they might do. Never too late, but Japan,Inc. need to start finding ways to make the country more energy independent.

13 ( +28 / -15 )

Why aren’t the usuals here bleating “sanctions don’t work!” ?

5 ( +16 / -11 )

There are 465 politicians so 384 are sanctioned by Russia, don’t know in what way? Can Russia seize their hidden cash when Japanese authorities are unable to? I don’t think so. They don’t care, life time jobs great salary with ample opportunities to garnish their income further. Really what can Russia actually do?

7 ( +14 / -7 )

… and banned them from entering the country.

Dang! Summer vacation ruined!

13 ( +21 / -8 )

Japan impose many thing on Russia after Ukraine invasion, Japan should expect that Russia will do something about it. Before sanction to 384 Japanese law maker, Sakhalin project cooperation already under new term by Russia.

11 ( +14 / -3 )

Axel, the US GDP is 20 trillion dollar,3 times that of Japanese

4 ( +17 / -13 )

Easier said than done. Japan has no real politicians. They're all blind followers of the occupying power. Sad but true.

-3 ( +23 / -26 )

This is a European problem, not a Japanese problem! Drop all Russian sanctions immediately. It's an excellent chance for Japan to gain a very large economic advantage over Europe and USA.
