Russia you are friends with north korea, isn't that enough to destroy your credibility already?

4 ( +16 / -12 )

So why don't you join us Russia... add in China too and we'd have N. Korea totally surrounded. We give him an ultimatum... give up your Nuclear Weapons or we all attack We all then split the country up.... China gets the Northern border.... Russia the Eastern and S. Korea a bit more territory North of it. Sound like a plan? It is not like N. Korea listens to either Russia or China at this point.... and the only reason they want N. Korea is for a buffer zone between Democratic S. Korea and their U.S. ally.

1 ( +9 / -8 )

The Russians are correct.

Having attack craft race up to North Korea's land border and then fly into North Korea's coastal territory is a provocation which could result in a nuclear conflict.

The US has already bombed and spied on North Korea.

Now, it is threatening the same again?

And there won't be a response?

-7 ( +10 / -17 )

I'm sorry, but that's how you prepare when your neighbor is threatening to nuke you.

5 ( +13 / -8 )

"Carrying out military training in regions surrounding North Korea will only heighten hysteria and make the situation unstable,"

Translation: Our fellow Russian oligarchs have investments in North Korea. Our Stalin (the most admired man in modern Russia) set up the Kim dynasty. Kim's grandson's our guy. We don't want a reduction in the profits Putin's puppets are making helping Kim and the .01% of North Koreans get richer. Authoritarian regimes forever!

6 ( +11 / -5 )

Uh, the neighbor is threatening to defend itself with nukes. Iraq and Syria learned not having WMD only allowed the US to invade with only weak resistance.

-2 ( +6 / -8 )

North Korea says its weapons programs are necessary to counter U.S. aggression.

This is the big lie. North Korea is already protected by China since 1961 by a defense agreement whereby China will protect North Korea from attack. So it has no need for a nuclear arsenal. Note that South Korea and Japan, both of which are protected by the United States, do not seek to acquire nuclear arsenals.

"Carrying out military training in regions surrounding North Korea will only heighten hysteria and make the situation unstable," Gerasimov said

But North Korea openly talking about "nuking" U.S. cities does not?

China and Russia both oppose the deployment in South Korea of the advanced U.S. Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) anti-missile system.

Then stop protecting and coddling North Korea. Make such missiles unnecessary.

6 ( +13 / -7 )

China and Russia both oppose the deployment in South Korea of the advanced U.S. Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) anti-missile system.

This I will never understand. THAAD is a purely defensive system, so who is being hurt by it being deployed?

I mean, if you think about it, isn't the only reason to oppose it because you want to destroy the place it is deployed to and it's presence makes it harder to do that...?

It's like car insurance. It's not going to do anything but cost money unless you're in an accident, but if that happens, you sure are glad you have it.

8 ( +12 / -4 )

"Carrying out military training in regions surrounding North Korea will only heighten hysteria and make the situation unstable," Gerasimov said at the beginning of a meeting with Japanese Minister of Defense Itsunori Onodera. Well, when missiles are flying over Hokkaido the situation is already unstable and can hardly be called hysteria. So, if you (Russia) want to keep the situation stable then get a leash on the NK puppy before the dog catcher puts it to sleep.

8 ( +13 / -5 )

And here I was under the impression that POOTY,ABBEY and TRUMPY were all good ol buddies !

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

Missiles have actually flown over Japan. It's not hysteria.

Russia just hates it when neighbours are capable of holding their own

8 ( +14 / -6 )

The US has already bombed and spied on North Korea

Err since when? I'm sure that would have been very big news.

Nonsense

2 ( +9 / -7 )

The views of Russia are invalid and worth nothing. They are an enemy that prefers their neighbors defenseless and should be ignored. The morons are just butthurt they got banned from Olympics, they’ll do anything to be accepted

3 ( +9 / -6 )

Russia aided NK in their missile development. Theres' no way NK could have done it alone.

But North Korea openly talking about "nuking" U.S. cities does not?

You missed the key part of the 'NK threat' as mentioned by the NK foreign minister here...

"Should the US pounce upon the DPRK with military force at last, the DPRK is ready to teach the US a severe lesson with its strategic nuclear force".

As most people in the world now know, the US, perceptibly, has a bullying problem dressed as 'peacekeeping'. Consequently, some non-allied nations now have these weapons as defense - but (fact) only the US has ever used them on a civilian population and would use them to stand over other nations if checks were not in place (i.e. collateral damage). Hence the long stand off between Russia and the US during the Cold War.

Coincidentally, since Trump has come into power, the world is quickly getting whipped up into a frenzy. So it might help to not only point your critique at NK, but elsewhere too...

Missiles have actually flown over Japan. It's not hysteria.

Conversely, what is NK supposed to think when they are attacked both economically and through foreign policy for decades, and now has a massive enemy army a short distance away lobbing missiles into their territories?

I think people have not been able to put themselves in NK's shoes, and tried to see things from their point of view. After all, no one wants to be annihilated. China and Russia won't be pushed around by the US. And the US would do well not to underestimate them.

I vote for peace.

-4 ( +5 / -9 )

@Matt Harewell. I believe he is referring to the Korean War (when U.S. did bomb and spy on North Korea). The Korean war started after the North Koreans invaded the South in 1950. The UN Security Council authorized the sending of UN forces to Korea to fight off what the world recognized as a North Korean invasion. The U.S. provided over 75% of the personnel for that war.

Since the end of the war the U.S. has not bombed North Korea - now spying? That is another story (which North Korea also engages in as well)

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Sorry but, from my experience Russia always Complains when some country try to make drills or installs any kind of Anti missile defence.

8 ( +12 / -4 )

"Should the US pounce upon the DPRK with military force at last, the DPRK is ready to teach the US a severe lesson with its strategic nuclear force".

Check your history. This is not the first time that they have threatened the US with nuclear weapons. It is however, the first time they have threatened when they actually had them. Time to take them seriously. They have even produced propaganda videos showing the nuclear destruction of the United States (with some shoddy CGI and stolen footage from a Call of Duty video game).

Missiles have actually flown over Japan. It's not hysteria.

Conversely, what is NK supposed to think when they are attacked both economically and through foreign policy for decades, and now has a massive enemy army a short distance away lobbing missiles into their territories?

In response to the missiles being launched over Japan. You act like the sanctions were started for no reason and poor Kim Jung Un and North Korea are innocent victims in all this.

7 ( +11 / -4 )

Two things I learn from Russia, they always complain when another country installs any defensive system, yet they are willing to destabilize the Region giving ICBM technology to North Korea so they can sell their weapons. Unlike USA that does the same but they wouldn't heasitate to attack North Korea.

8 ( +11 / -3 )

So Russia warned Japan, ROK & USA about their military excercises. But wait, sending ICBM over another country & testing nuclear devices, did I hear even a squeak from Russia? Aren't Russia openly siding with DPRK by saying this? What if ROK or Japan test a missile over Russian territory?

Who cares what Russians say.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

As President James Dale (The great Jack Nicolson) said in Mars Attacks...

"Why can't we all just...get along?"

Myself, probably many of you guys on here, and everyone else just wants to wake up, go to work, have a beer, watch a bit of TV, have a little "fun time" Go to sleep, then wake up and do it all again.

Nobody is looking for any trouble with nobody else.

It's these bozo's we elect to act on our behalf who go looking for trouble.

And they are the ones who will survive when the SHTF.

How's that fair?

This NK problem wouldn't be as much of a problem if we all worked together to sort it out. Forget our differences...let's focus on our strengths and get Kim told.

That's everyone...including the Russians and the Chinese!

(On a side note...Does anyone know how the boss of the SDF got so many ribbons on his chest?)

3 ( +4 / -1 )

Hey Valery Gerasimov,  in case you didn't know, the ONLY reason NK even exists these days IS because of China & to a lesser extent Russia!!

BOTH have propped up NK regimes since the 50s to present, solely so the Korean peninsula cant unify, which China for some bizarre reason thinks that will bring US troops right onto their door step.....messed up thinking!

If China & Russia had any common sense they would have let NK fade away decades ago, but no, they BOTH are DIRECLY responsible for the current situation & it seems NK is starting to thumb its nose to its masters.....hey your getting what you paid for!!

Now the US is not totally innocent in all this, BUT I cant imagine the US would near the presence in (S)Korea now IF both north & south had unified some way, hell can you imagine after the first few years all the good that we would have heard about, but NO now its possible war & it is MOSTLY China & Russia that are to blame!

8 ( +9 / -1 )

The DPRK is a nuclear threat and is threatening South Korea, Japan and U.S. as well the entire region. I do not care what the Russians think. The young Kim is worse than his Father potentially. More time is needed to see how ruthless he really is.

The DPRK better change course real quick. I am for a full on Naval blockade and lets start blowing there test missiles right of the launch pads and out of the sky.

Have all of you forgotten The bombardment of Yeonpyeong? DPRK goes out of its way to sink ships and shell right on the dime if they think they are being threatened. They never show restraint. U.S. paid them millions in relief monies under Clinton and shortly after there they go again. Weaponizing spent fuel rods. Bringing rocket scientists over Iran and Russia furthering the Un family agenda.

Enough is enough liberate the North Korean people from its communist dictator iron clad army.

Get those poor folks over in N.K. some freedoms like hot water some food and medical, medicines. It is time. Yes it will be messy to say the least. Your life style maybe affected somewhat in Japan. But we have all had it good for a long time. Imagine a unified Korea and loving neighbor. I am sorry but sometimes war is a necessity.

But cut off the head of the snake and be done with it.

This really has to be done. Liberate!

What every defector is calling for who escapes the clutches of its oppressive demoralizing living situation.

Liberation!

NK should get Russian S-400 systems. Then everybody can make the choice, end the world or back down. India and Pakistan haven’t wiped out the world, but what is the desire to do this near my house? Go away.

Hear, hear! Let's up the ante a little shall we and see if the warmongering yanks are still so keen to get this party started. Deny them full air superiority and they won't wanna know.

-6 ( +1 / -7 )

Don’t believe in warmongering, upping the ante, just self defense. The main reason I moved to japan.

Russia is using NK as a tool in their war against the Western democracies. This is why Russians helped Kim to develop nuclear weapons and ICBM.

Or China, but I tend to think it was the Russians.

Russia is using NK as a tool in their war against the Western democracies. This is why Russians helped Kim to develop nuclear weapons and ICBM.

Would not surprise me. But given when the North Koreans actually started developing their program, its difficult to know whether that help was initially sanctioned or gained through "rogue" Soviet scientists.

In terms of their rapid progress. Well we may never know, but I guess if you focus enough brainpower on any given task for decades on end, at the expense of virtually everything else, you will make some solid breakthroughs.

5 ( +5 / -0 )

Russia is using NK as a tool in their war against the Western democracies.

Now I've heard everything.

The deep state is using the MSM as a tool in their war against critical thinking and common sense.

N. Korea only exists because both China and Russia did not want a U.S. leaning country directly on their border and that is 100% the truth. But their baby grew up and started developing ideas and weapons of their own. Neither China nor Russia have any control over them any longer.

I think they do. We haven't seen either country "spank" that baby hard enough to find out.
