Look Abe wants a summit but SK declines, and rightfully so imo. Abe needs to put his money where his mouth is, make a heartfelt and sincere apology, make it state policy, educate the upcoming generations, and finally become the leader and statesman that he so wants to be seen as..............

(I know, I know...one can always dream)

If you ask a British guy if he hates French for what Napoleon did centuries ago, he will say nothing because he was not born yet at that time. I wish it would happen with these countries, but I think is impossible in our era unfortunatelly unless the SK president in 2050 is a open mind guy who doesn't care about history and just wanna peace and friendship.

Good for Japan and South Korea though, glad to see cooler heads prevail. Hopefully a true friendship and alliance may sprout from these small steps someday.

Don't be so naive, Japan and Korea have historically been at each others throats for centuries in many ways. Both attempted to take the other over numerous times in history. While the two should be friends now, old wounds are hard to fix.

South Korea always demands demands and demands. Japan is now very tired with SK. Japan should not reward anything for such a bad behavior.

Clearly from someone totally clueless about the history between the UK and France!

Stupid comparison, victims of the IJA are still alive, throughout Asia. You'd have to be knocking on quite a bit (understatement) to have been alive during the Napoleonic wars.

Lol, its the Japanese government whos desperate for a summit with South Korea. Remember all the whining Abe and his government? South Korea is the one whos not rewarding Japan for its bad behavior.

Why does Japan need a country who is only demanding apology and money?

That's not all Korea provides. There is a huge volume of trade between the two countries. In your hatred of your Korean people, and your country of Korea, you like to forget that point, but I guarantee that the thousands and thousands of Japanese people who do business with Korea don't forget that point.

Folks, I'm Korean Born in Europe... Been talking quite a lot on this issue. Quite frankly Abe and Park both make quite a pair. Both idiots! :)

When did Korea ever attack Japan? It's always been Japan attacking Korea. It's the reason why Koreans don't trust Japan's remilitarization. Every time Japan has armed itself, the first country they came after, was always Korea throughout history. It's really no wonder why Koreans expect this to continue especially when Tokyo says it did nothing wrong during WWII.

Why does Japan need a country who is only demanding apology and money?

Because Korea buys a crap load of Japanese exports, everything from Japanese cars, to Japanese beer. And South Korean tourists are number two in numbers, after China. This despite Japan not returning the favor for Korean products and services. Korea only sells $10 billion to Japan. Japan sells $50 billion worth of goods to Korea. If you add that $40 billion trade surplus for Japan for trade with Korea, year after year for 50 years, that's a substantial amount of money that Japan can't afford not to lose.
