Well, Hatoyama the apologist was siding with Koreans during the meeting, where he claimed Imperial Japan was evil and Japan needed to apologize to Korea 100 times or something like that.

on a more serious note i think it's quite sad that the positive relations korea and japan were building were destroyed by abe the clown. i remember how vibrant shin-okubo was becoming with korean culture and the huge boom in popularity anything korean was having around tokyo. young people from both countries were coming and going in record numbers as students. KARA was invited to be on the new years' kohaku music show.

one japanese election later and that progress and goodwill was all wiped out, all for what? KARA was removed from kohaku, korean shops closed up everywhere and people on both sides became bitter and petty.

This will never be solved. Exactly what did Abe do to produce the results you describe? He made a deal with Park on the comfort women. It's not his fault she was impeached.

Students coming to Japan from Korea have continued to increase. The 2017 - 2018 increase was 8.1%.

Shin-Okubo was changing before Abe came along. Other Asians were displacing Koreans. A large fraction of the Korean establishments in Shin-Okubo catered to Korean businessmen spending corporate entertainment funds. They were not a basis for Japanese-Korean "communications."

Korean melodrama on television declined in popularity like other fads and because broadcasters looking for cheap time fillers saturated the market.

Tokyo is not a good place to judge Korean-Japanese tourism or Korean enclaves. Koreans have historically gone to cities in western Japan, especially Osaka and Fukuoka. Those cities are closer to Korea and have large Korean speaking populations.

You are right, nothing will erase that it happened and it rightly shouldn't. But Korea needs to accept that and live in the present.

I recently read a story of a young man storming the beach at Normandy. As he hit the beach, he was shot in the chest by a German MG42 machine gun. Years later, he managed to actually meet the German soldier who manned that MG42 he was shot by and became friends with him. He forgave the man who shot him in the chest three times expecting him to die face down in the sand.

Take a hint Korea, because after 70 years, you're not the victim anymore.

The difference is we have never acknowledged our culpability for atrocities to which we resorted as wartime experiences.

The Difference is that Imperial Japan's WWII atrocities were not carried out against Koreans, as Korea was part of the Japanese Empire since 1910 and Koreans had Japanese nationality.
