@obla: I agree with you.

eah Moon can talk all he wants and NK will string him along like a puppet and a fool, while they keep building and perfecting until there won't be a need for talks and it will be the NK's taking action, making a swooping move on Seoul that it will catch them off guard and hit them right between the eyes. Then and only then will they realize their mistake. By this time I hope the US has pulled out and no American blood is spill because of fools. Abe knows well that China has it in bad for Japan and China wants Japan to taste their steel.  You peace lovers, keep thinking as you are but when the Chinese invade Japan, you will wish Abe would have done things differently. Too late but what do I know except "remember Tibet". They came in peace...yeah but death was right behind them all along.

Woah. How'd you get from the Koreas talking to each other peacefully to China invading Japan? Seems to me someone doesn't actually want peace in the region....

good news. thank you.

This can only be a good thing. It's got plenty of precedent (see the Carter and Clinton pushes for dialogue) and Moon is only doing what he promised to do. Nobody will benefit from the alternative to dialogue.

A step in that right direction as it is to ease military tensions, with no surprise... Japan LDP is not supporting that action.

Unless China can tell NKorea to agree to this, AND hold them responsible to it, it will be meaningless.

It is NOT S. Korea that N. Korea wants to talk with, no more than with China or Russia.

It is the USA (Trump) that N/ Korea wants to"talk" with and be recognized as nation worthy of being a part of the world community. They are NOT foolish enough to seek annihilation. They want to survive and live.. live a better life and not be treated as a "maybe" and outcast nation of people at the convenience of other nations.

Let Trump talk with Kim. Let THAT HAPPEN and China and Russia will try to thwart it by threatening war as both wants to keep N. Korea their "pawn" indirectly balancing each other. The biggest fear is for N. and S. Korea to "unite", which inevitably will become inaccessible to China and Russia. Then.., China and Russia must "face" each other while looking at the threat from a "combines" Korea with USA support in the name of "peace".

It will also change the picture of the religious and racial wars (terrorism) because there will be less "distraction" for the Western nations.

Think... who has benefited from all this so far?

China... Russia and the Islamic states.

I think he's stupid to talk to Kim. Either he'll start a war, or foolishly agree to things that NK will reneg on later that again puts us at the brink of war. Squeezing China is the only "peaceful" solution but he needs his low cost neck ties.
