Korea should put their efforts toward proposing a solution to the problem after they ripped up the “final” agreement with nothing to replace it. Instead they’re doubling down on unreason-ability.

It will save Japanese government the trouble of placing more bans on Japanese goods being exported to SK, to add to the hi-tech bans. Most of the world is crying out for Japan-quality goods, so they will just be sent there.

SK and Chinese visitors are neck-and-neck when it comes to visitors to Japan. What is the logic behind the assertion that a drop in SK visitors to Japan will see an increase in Chinese visitors?

I keep hearing about how "Japan" apologized. But can anyone quote an official apology from or ratified by the Japanese Diet that was 1) clear by actually saying sorry or we apologize and was not instead a bunch of luke warm words like "regrettable" and/or 2) not back tracked on and/or 3) is included in a public school textbook? And what was it about? 1) the horrible colonization 2) labor slavery of the Korean people 3) sexual slavery and rape of Korean women 4) forced military conscription?

And how does any government apology explain the Japanese government preventing Japanese companies from paying back wages to former Korean workers and slaves?

Talk to many newly politically charged locals and you’ll soon find there are now two countries they hate instead of the traditional one. And it’s vitriol. Classic collectivism. No enemy and the whole mindset falls apart.

Moon needs to do the right thing and pay the victims of force labor with the money Japan already paid in 1965 aggrement to cover such claims.

S. Korea has benefited tremendously from Japans technology and economic support, a trade surplus runs in S. Korea favor for decades now, over 600 billion in the last 54 years.

I want better relations with S. Korea, the path they want to take hasn't worked and has made relations worse, apology and compensation didn't work.

A more aggressive approach is the way to take if you want better relations with S. Korea than we had for the past 70 years.

South Korea once tried to make nuke weapons only to be found out by USA.  It is highly possible that SK is making another try using the missing 30% of the materials from Japan.

Yawn, wouldn't be an article about SK/Japan without the usual cut and paste job. Maybe if the SK government actually taught its citizens the truth in regards to what Japan has done, then there wouldn't be so much misinformation floating around out there in South Korean land. At each turn South Korea shows the world just how deranged an attitude it has towards Japan, In 2004 Japan elevated South Korea to a trusted ally status enabling exports of certain items to be expedited. This raised South Korea above other nations like China or Taiwan. Since then South Korea has done nothing but to take a hostile policy towards Japan, even breaking the landmark 2015 CW agreement that was suppose to be "final". Under the Moon administration, anti-Japan sentiment has become worse than it has ever been, even now affecting the ROK Military and the JSDF, something that never occurred under previous administrations. South Korea has deservedly lost Japan's trust. And rest assured the United States is fully aware of South Korea's continued efforts to break apart the US-JPN-SK strategic alliance.

So Japan raised SK to a trusted ally level, took them off because of SK's behavior, and South Koreans are demanding an apology and a boycott to Japanese goods? I call this demented thinking.

South Korea has made zero effort to improve relations with Japan from the damage they themselves brought upon it. And now they go crying to the US, UN and WTO. A pathetic nation under the most pathetic administration they've ever had.

Here we go again. Should we now collectively gather en mass in the streets and pledge to boycott Korean products? Aside from K-Pop, not sure what we would be boycotting exactly.

These idiots probably doesn’t even knows what boycotting Japan goods would even do to them. The thing can go both ways too. So the only thing it would do is cause chaos at both side and help bolster Abe side. They demand a apology and a withdrawel . Which is impossible unless Abe want to lose all his voters. The more hate SK create, the stronger public support in Japan would be for Abe government to counter SK hostile threats. Plus SK economy would suffer way more considered they are lacking a lot more and is a smaller country. They also rely heavily on Japan tourist too. SK cosmetic and idols industry would suffer a huge hit if those idiots delusion really comes true.

Does this mean Japan will ban Korean TV dramas in retaliation? The masses will not be pleased.

If the Koreans seriously want to boycott Japanese goods, they should also ban all exports to Japan, including tourists and expats. They are such childish idiots.

When President Moon Jae-in met Dear Leader Kim Jong-un in April 2018, it's safe to assume they've agreed that four surrounding countries (US, Japan, China and Russia) are so vicious that two Koreans are played off to fight each other and they are victims of the four alike. Moon may have vowed to Kim to create the united Korea, totally independent from the four powers thanks to Kim's nuclear missiles. In exchange, Kim would've agreed that Moon's becoming 1st president of the united Korea and Moon will have 100% support from Kim leading all Korean military. Sanction from Japan or US doesn't matter to the integrated leadership because they (Kim and Moon) will forfeit the wealth of the traitors ( the established rich in SK, which is after all pro-Japan, and pro-US). Political system is converging into that of the North's that are quite traditional Koreans (Absolute tyranny governs slaves). 

Japan seems to have started preparing counter measures for such horror scenario, cooperating with not only with US, but with China (!) . China hates such possibility too as the integrated Korea will have more say to China using pro-America card. 

For both US and China, if the Koreas were to be re-unified while remaining its becoming enemy's land potentially, it must become "scorched-earth" before its happening. Japan's total withdrawal from SK is welcomed from both US and China tacitly.

Japan did no such thing.

The 1965 Treaty covers claims for backwages, bank savings, and properties left behind each other's territory, doesn't cover damages which are the basis behind the current wave of claims.

It's like when the US passed the 21st amendment to the US constitution (which nullified the 18th amendment), they didn't need to go back and modify the 18th amendment, the 21st amendment supplants it.

Boycotting something is their own right of expression, and nobody can stop or hamper it in S. Korea. At least, they don't use loud speakers like Japanese right-wing groups in the street. Of course, dozens can not represent 50 millions.

Major newspapers in S. Korea are busy attacking their own government everyday, while Japanese tabloids like Sankei dance with Abe.

Samsung has managed to get around Japan's export control and production will go on as usual.

It is Japanese suppliers who are damaged from Abe's export control, as those willing to circumvent Abe's export control will keep their contracts, while those who refuse to will lose out and be replaced by alternate suppliers. Some Japanese suppliers are said to be disgusted by Abe san and is going whatever they can to keep the supply flowing, while some are taking a backseat approach, namely the Stellar Chemistry.

The legal ramification of this sentence is that the 1910 treaty was null and void PRIOR to the signing date of the 1965 treaty; this is not the case of the 1965 treaty null and voiding the 1910 treaty.

And Japan took no action to nullify the 1910 treaty; all Japan did was to acknowledge that the 1910 treaty was null and void prior to 1965, without Japan taking any action to nullify it.

So when did the 1910 treaty become null and void? Korea says 1910. Japan says 1945, the day of Japan's surrender.
