S Korean lawmakers visit disputed islets also claimed by Japan

Correction; S Korean lawmakers visit illegally occupied islets owned by Japan.

When the Syngman Rhee line was drawn in 1952 arbitrarily including the Liancourt Rocks as South Korean territory it alarmed the United States who urged Japan to immediately take the issue to the ICJ. South Korea refused and has refused two more times. Despite loud claims that they have sufficient legal evidence to support their claim, South Korea has been and continues to be afraid of objective international jurisdiction. This is another SK-JPN issue that remains unresolved due to South Korea's lack of respect for the Rule of Law.

Since S. Korea is going back on a deal sign as Final and Irreversible more should be done to retake this Island. Send Japanese Ships to the area. It's Japanese property and land.

FYI, the Liancourt Rocks are heavily visited tourist destinations and ANYONE can visit all year around, Japanese included. The only exceptions are black-listed Japanese rightwing nationalists looking to make trouble. It is the Japanese government that advises Japanese to not visit the Liancourt Rocks as Japan considers Japanese visiting the Liancourt Rocks as the endorsement of Korean sovereignty.

Compare this to the Pinnacle Islands, which is OFF LIMIT to Japanese civilians.

@AlexBecu

more should be done to retake this Island.

That's exactly what the ROK is looking for, because they can now make use of 5,000 missiles on Tokyo.

Send Japanese Ships to the area

Japan did, back in 2006. Japan and Korea almost went to naval war, until Koizumi pulled out of the chicken game at the last minute. Since then, JSDF ruled out taking military actions on the Liancourt Rocks, since detailed analysis have concluded that Japan would come out worse, with Tokyo under ROK missile barrage and Tsushima guaranteed to fall to the ROK marines and there was no way to recover Tsushima once the ROK marines took control of it.

Deja vu all over again.

The South Korean lawmakers has done nothing wrong!

Why oh why do the Japanese government insist on these meaningless wrangles with South Korea, poisoning a relationship that should have mutual benefits for both and which they need as a bulwark against an expansionist China, to no useful purpose or benefit to real Japanese interests or the Japanese people.

Why oh why do the Japanese government insist on these meaningless wrangles with South Korea,

Right. Because South Korea never does anything to provoke Japan.

Japan did, back in 2006. Japan and Korea almost went to naval war, until Koizumi pulled out of the chicken game at the last minute.

As I mentioned elsewhere to you, Japan prepared to send two survey vessels (of course unarmed) for the purpose of the maritime survey accordingly with UN Convention on the Law of the Sea - Article 238 but paranoid Korean gov sent 20 armed guard ships to prevent it. It's hardly a chicken game, it's just a same-old Korean paranoia.

Here is a comment by U.S. ambassador in Tokyo, Tom Schieffer, at the time of incident; "The Ambassador stated the United States understands that Japan is within its rights under international law. The Koreans are behaving irrationally, and the United States is concerned that they may do something crazy, causing a major problem."

Can you provide the source of where did this wishy-washy "detailed analysis" come from?

Samit Basu has a history of making highly detailed statements biased towards Korea but whenever asked for a source or link there is no response. Complete waste of time.
