I am angry about this. If Korea can protest about Japan using the Navy Flag, Japan can surely lodge an official protest about this action to inflame tensions. Summon the South Korean Abassador in Tokyo immediately.

The only people that really care about this issue are the politicians and right-wingers in both countries.

The "average" folks in both countries get along really well, as proved by the huge numbers of tourists going back and forth between the countries and others as well.

Korean culture and much about Korea is loved here in Japan, and vice versa as well!

It's just time for the politicians, on both sides, to stop acting like children!

They know our peace constitution very well and they have nothing to be afraid of our counter attacks. Change the peace constitution and have a strong military to deal with rogue nations.

If it hasn't happened to Germany, a former axis of evil, it isn't going to happen to japan. Best get used to being a vassal state.

I wonder if this has anything to do with Japanese officials visiting Yasukuni Shrine a few days ago...

The peace constitution resulted in losing pride as a nation.

President Moon - if you can take the giant step and attempt to bury the past with North Korea who invaded your country and killed millions only 60 years ago - and who tried to assassinate your President in Burma 1983), bombed a South Korea airliner out of the sky (1987), and sunk a warship killing its crew (2010), why can't you take the other giant step and lead your county into a new forwarding-thinking relationship with Japan?

No President in South Korea has had the guts to do what is in the bests interest of his/her country and say what is history is in the past - let's forge and new, positive relationship with one of our closest neighbors. President Lee tried, but as soon as his administration was involved in a scandal, off to Takeshima/Dokdo he went waving the flag.

Japan has to try to - Abe cannot overlook the far-right nuts in his government.

But there is so much to gain from a relationship that focuses on shared values, economic opportunities, and mutual threats.

Korea/Japan cooperation is a must to deal with a China that continues to bully its way in the South China Sea, and once cemented, will look north to the East China Sea - Taiwan, the Senkakus, lower Okinawa islands, islands off Jejudo...it's all part of China's long-term plan to control all the trade routes and lines of communication (sea lanes) in Asia.

President Moon - take the other giant step...

It never seizes to amaze me how a nation that intentionally blurs it's attrotious historical past complains the most regarding provocative moves seeing as no concrete steps were ever taken to subdue and crush the right wing mindset left over after the war ended. Funny that.

That's nice. Japanese people need to realize that Korea,china and taiwan is not a friend country of Japan !

I wasn't listening so closely to the tv news last night when I heard that a group of Korean politicians had landed in Shimane Prefecture (sic).

Briefly I thought a friendly exchange was underway - you know developing relationships, extending a hand - then realized it was Takeshima, Shimane Prefecture.

Which was then followed by the inevitable - Suga denouncing the unacceptable act of intrusion on Japan's sovereign territory.

So, the wheel turns again.

As many have stated re this countless times, the games over. Takeshima is 100% controlled by Korea whether one agrees or not. It is. It has developed the island, literally built a small village with permanent residents. For all realistic intents and purposes Takeshima is in Shimane Prefecture in name only ( and then used only by the Japanese govt local / national and like minded followers).

The whole notion of Takeshima's being, took on another face when the Shimane prefectural govt decided to officially declare it as part of the prefecture in 2005 with it declaring Feb 22nd "Takeshima Day". This upped the ante considerably on both sides and left little room for positive negotiation / discussion. Interesting to note that this is the same local govt that wanted to ban the classic Japanese anti-war childrens story "Barefoot Gen" from it's libraries as being too strong in it's attack on war, emperor and the govt. Agenda???

In reality Takeshima exists now as a part of Korea. No amount of complaining will see it given over, for the simple reason that it would be domestic- suicide for any Korean govt.

World history is littered with similar cases.

Childish trouble-making by S Korea but Japan should show its maturity by ignoring it.

First its compensation, now its land grabs?

Ignore another nation parading on Takeshima Islands? You cannot be serious. Strong protest to the International community is the only course. Japan will not sit back and allow this!

LOL, Japan's the one to complain about certain visits of certain politicians in certain countries...

-5 ( +2 / -7 )

If South Korea would protest about Japanese Navy flags, then Japan as much as of the right to protest about the SK visits to Takeshima.

@Ganbare Japan!

Japan can't. Both incidents took place in Korean territory.

@Schoopenhauer

Change the peace constitution and have a strong military to deal with rogue nations.

That day has long passed and Japan with a regular military cannot defeat Korea. Korea can however lay Tokyo to waste with its stockpile of 5,000 ballistic and cruise missiles.

It takes an insane firepower to deal with the insane firepower of Rocket Man Kim Jong Un's missile force, and the ROK has that insane missile force.

@lincolnman

why can't you take the other giant step and lead your county into a new forwarding-thinking relationship with Japan?

Simple. North Korea is not a foreign country in the ROK; it is a rebel held territory of ROK. Japan is a foreign country to the ROK.

Japan will not sit back and allow this!

they can and they will, Russia holds their islands and Korea hold theres, unless Japan is willing to go to war then it unlikely they get either back.
