Japan rushes to evacuate nationals from Kabul

I take it, they had no escape strategy in case an even such as this, happened.

Sounds about right.

Japan loves to wait till AFTER the fact to START to take action.

Was waiting to know whether Japan was bringing their Afghan staff and their families TO Japan together with their Japanese nationals.

They conveniently left that out. Typical Japan

That’s nothing compared to what follows, when they are here, consider the real mission and safety concerns to begin.

Reporting from the airport at Kabul has been fragmentary. For instance, how many troops are at the airport, and from which countries?

An Afghan reporter working for NBC said that besides American, there were Turkish, Spanish, Norwegian, and Afghan soldiers at the airport.

A video clip of planes taking off showed a C-130 with German markings on the fuselage.

The above article states that there are or will be Japanese planes and soldiers at the airport.

My point is that comprehensive reporting is not being done.

if you ask me, i think is a overreaction of all the countries. So far the taliban did not hurt any foreign nationals and not to mention they still have to stabilize and run the country. The taliban itself contain many different faction and has all kind of people. Most do not want chaos or make more enemies with other nations.

Yes the taliban did shelter Osama Bin laden which cause the invvasion of afghanistan but the taliban itself is not a terrorist group according to the US. They currently are fighting to retake their nation and wishes to limit foreign influence on their people. People think they are a terrorist group but they aren't. US has 20years and still couldn't finish them off. And they retake the nation in less than a month. That show you just how much influence and support they have among the people.

While i am not saying the return of the taliban reign is gonna be good, but these nations need to stop overreacting and paint the talibana as some kind of monsters out for the blood of foreign diplomats. Because that is just being ignorant and intentionally fooling the public. Even in most authoritarian nations, there are so many embassy there to keep a eye on things. I don't see why this is any different.

The embassy staff went to Turkey via Doha.

There are British, French, German and other foreign NATO troops.

The Japanese need to hurry up. After the 31st who knows what will happen?

Well, that's what America will tell itself to let itself off the hook for once again destroying another nation, then abandoning it to the wolves. By the rules of American Exceptionalism, they get to tell themselves they weren't bad because there was no way to fix that thing they broke, so why bother.

A senior Defense Ministry official said, "We are quickly preparing for the mission and to be honest, we don't really know the local situation."

should you have not prepared a back up plan/mission months ago? just in case.

we don't really know the local situation."...chaos and carnage, have you not seen the people clinging onto the outside of the aircraft that landed and took off again? have you not come across the dead in the streets trying to get to the airport to get away?

But no protection missions have so far been conducted as they would require more conditions to be met, such as gaining consent from the country concerned.

what are you waiting for? a hanko stamp from the Taliban for approval? just send in the aircrft to fetch home safely your nationals, then worry about the paper work, stop dithering!!

The effort to evacuate from Kabul airport is a multinational effort. If the above link works, it lists many of the countries involved, and how many they have evacuated, as of August 19.

as Japan rushes

As Japan's government scrambles to evacuate

Some members of the Self-Defense Forces and the Defense Ministry expressed wariness over the fluid security situation in the country and the hurriedly arranged nature of the transport mission.

Are they serious? Most states started evacuating almost 2 weeks ago and most states have already evacuated a week ago.

Then again, someone in the government was just sitting around, having meetings, planning, thinking and debating, and meanwhile time was being wasted. If they are just starting to evacuate the JP embassy, then it is very late.

A senior Defense Ministry official said, "We are quickly preparing for the mission and to be honest, we don't really know the local situation."

They do not really know the local situation? No word from our intelligence? No reports from friendly foreign intelligence or correspondents? No update on the situation from OUR AMBASSADORS/EMBASSY? Even if they just opened a news website, they would get some minimal information and get a somewhat comprehensive overview (FUBAR).

@Strangerland

"...that's what America will tell itself to let itself off the hook for once again destroying another nation..."

Afghanistan had destroyed itself long before the Americans arrived. Life under the Taliban before 2001 was hell for most residents.
