He's right. And Japan should start enforcing the sanctions. On everything.
Michael Hooper
Japan must stop buying Russian fish, and continuing to manufacture cigarettes in Russia.

Keep sanction to Russia but keep buying things from third country in the middle.

Japan did buy oil from Russia this year at a price above the official price cap so I think this talk from Japan is just that, talk. The sanctions are not working and are causing massive blow back on Europe especially, which might be what the US desires.
Freedom Rulez
What about sanctions against Communist China for its current genocide
Meiyouwenti
"end its aggression as soon as possible so that we can reach the phase that we can use the dialogue and peace talks".
Why wait? You can use dialogue and peace talks while the aggression is still going on. Sanctions don’t work against the energy-and-food-self sufficient Russia and when major countries like India are not participating.
BigP
But, ah, then again, I think Japan will pick and choose our Russian sanctions to suit ourselves. But other countries shouldn’t, of course!
Eppee
Japan(and JPY) is the exchange gateway for providing Russian gas to the region though.
TaiwanIsNotChina
Not while somebody is still sitting on your stolen property you can't.
TaiwanIsNotChina
Implying they were ever intended to end when the war ends. These sanctions stay until Putin is gone, one way or another.

China can replace those sanctions on Russia. The western automobiles leave the Russian market, China is going to take over it and so on........
TaiwanIsNotChina
Oh really? What territory has Russia surrendered through negotiation? I guess Eastern Europe in WW1 but that was at the point of a gun.
TaiwanIsNotChina
There is only so much a dog can do for China.

Japan should stop now!is making a worst decision!complicate relations of peace!

I haven't been on this site in a while. Today passing through I notice again that the "Russia is bad. West is good" narrative is still being pushed strongly by a lot of commenters. Some are even calling for all regular Russian citizens to be permanently sanctioned / prevented from entering Japan.
I am not defending anybody here, but such a black-n-white mindset is not how the world is supposed to work. People need to open up their mind and not be so strongly influenced by the mainstream media pushing for common narratives that they've lost the ability for independent thoughts.
I am sure those that are pushing for the MSN narratives will downvote me. Go ahead. I'm off keeping my eyes and ears open.
EyesWideOpen
Wow I couldn't believe it. Almost an hour after I posted earlier about people pushing for MSN narratives instead of keeping their eyes and ears open and having independent thoughts, I got 4 updates and only 2 downvotes.
Whatever is behind this unexpected development, I must say I am both surprised and glad. The less people adopt the black-n-white or good-vs-evil mindset, the better the world will be. After all, good-vs-evil is something that kindergarteners are taught simply because they have no capacity to handle reality in the real world. Good guys are sometimes bad and bad guys are not always bad. In other words, the world is full of colors and shades, never just black and white.
I call on the JT community to keep your eyes and ears open and refuse to subscribe to the notion that if you're not with us you're against us.
Fredrik
If that is the plan, the sanctions are unfounded. Wasn't Ukraine on the tipping point of winning the war, and take back all territories? In that case, send them weapons, and stop wasting time on empty talk!

"like-minded countries"
Only last week this new ambiguous phrase was being used in exchange for the "world".
It's starting to sink in methinks.
Translation - USA and their puppets, which equals the Usual Suspects - the former colonialist powers who have anxiety about the rise of China and can't comprehend a multipolar world, and cope by reinforcing their neo-colonialist world view.

RECENT EU elections in Turkey, Spain and Greece, provide clear evidence of growing Anti-War Movement Catalyst & their voters seeking New Leadership.
Present G-7 and EU leadership can act, including more Sanctions & War Support Efforts directed at Russia, but Voters will make Final Decision - happening/see above.

"dialogue and peace talks"
What happened to the Minsk Agreements.. you know, that 8 years of diplomacy you flushed down the toilet to prop up a coup regime that unleashed a vicious civil war with nasty ethnic overtones.

Squeeeeeze!!

What happened to the Budapest Memorandum?

Japan is not part of EU.Japan is not part of NATO yet.
ukrainine is not part of EU. Ukraine is not part of NATO.
Ukraine is on the total other side of the world. We have no trade interests with them. They have never done anything for japan.
but that one corrupt (according to TI) country is destroying our economy.
why? Our puppet masters orders?
wallace
Japan trades with the EU and is protected by a NATO country.

They are giving Russia black eye and that means fewer arms transfers to China that will be used against Japan in the future.
TaiwanIsNotChina
The puppet donbass republics violated them. In any event, it is not Russia's concern as it isn't a party to the agreements.
Still 43% of world gdp. That's over 2x China's share.

The world hasn't faced a full blown fascist country in a long time. Russians that have fled the country and disavow Putin are blameless, but we must assume the ones that remain are complicit in the Nazi regime unless proven otherwise.
Yrral
Putin know Japanese leaders are Insecure, that why he occupation of the Kurils, this Japanese official could not fight his way out of a wet paper bag
Yrral
Only Japanese leaders are running these days are their big mouths and nothing else on anything that benefits the average Japanese, and gaijin have become less than a man,by not challenging Japanese

Lmao, we just entered summer in the Northern Hemisphere, dude. You sure are eager to surrender.
They still have plenty more to spend from the last congress. And you don't know if McCarthy could be convinced to put something to a vote if things got desperate.
It's not that far to the sea and total Russian defeat.
