Writing the sign in Japanese would make more sense.

Well, to an extent they've brought this on themselves. Japan still needs to own up to and stop denying history, but SK jumped to the top of the ladder instead of going up the steps. You can't go back and start at the bottom. Japan has a bit of an upperhand here.

So the South Koreans have realized that they have whined themselves into a corner, without first coming up with a solution, or even a clear goal for that matter.

Well, going to a 3rd party for help isn't the worst idea in such a situation - if they actually have any interest in coming up with a solution.

These are two separate issues, and I do not think the Korean president can control an independent judiciary. Looks like Japan's gloves are coming off...

20 ( +23 / -3 )

In NE Asia, "independent judiciary" is an oxymoron...

What a joke.

Koreans companies (Samsung&co) may be the world biggest suppliers but not the world only suppliers. Taiwanese/Euro/American companies will gladly take over and end the S.Korean market dominance. The world will be fine.

S.Korea decided to be a hostile country and reneged old treaties/ seize business partners assets on their own accord.

So why are they seeking US help now? Weren’t they gloating few weeks ago at the idea of bullying Japan, yet again?

Japan is free to whitelist/give preferential treatments to whoever they want.

Now suffer!

Poor dears... they've been hit where it hurts, and now they've gone crying to Uncle Sam...

There is simply too much activism these days. It will obviously be better to work to uphold trade negotiations and spread wealth to younger generations instead of the elderly tying the world up with their grievances over historical events that have very little to do with modern day politics and trade.

Activism is for suckers most of the time.

Hachidori above is right.

NOW is the time for Japanese, Taiwanese and US companies to strike.

These countries should start making handphones, TVs, washing machines, and whatever that Korean companies are making and takeover the market, esp in Asia.

Taiwanese companies like HTC used to make beautiful handphone designs but were taken over by Samsung & LG (many times using Japanese chips and know-how). Sony's Xperia is every bit as good as the Korean ones. Just that they need to market it more.

I would love to see that happen!

And now the cookie crumbles to a million pieces. I sympathize with all WW2 victims, it is a shame that they are being used by politicians whenever they feel like doing it...what SK had been doing is just plain extortion, guilt tripping, and blackmail. I'm with Japan on this

Yes, but when they do that withIN the country, people cry about those 'golden parachutes'.

When will close neighbors become friends?

Only when China is dominating Asia will Koreans and Japanese begin seeing sense!

-11 ( +3 / -14 )

Actually East Asia is very peaceful thanks to the US presence. If China dominates that means Taiwan would have been invaded, and Russia will also react to protect its interests.

Only when China is dominating Asia will Koreans and Japanese begin seeing sense

In a way, you are right. If china is stupid enough to try & dominate Asia, Japan and BOTH Koreas will join together to take down china. THAT's when Japan and Korea will become friends.

-10 ( +1 / -11 )

when China is dominating Asia will Koreans and Japanese begin seeing sense!

I don't see it that way. I see China, Korea and japan coming together as one.

Such a small piece of 7.? billion minds found the well of fortune.

First of all, the change in Japan's export control is not a reprisal of the wartime labor issue. This is because South Korea does not respect the rule of law and is suspected about illegal exports to North Korea. (This is the violation of the UN Security Council resolution.)

The wartime labor issue is just an example that South Korea is ignoring the rule of law and the promise between nations. Japan's action is quite normal and does not violate any law. If South Korea acts in compliance with the rules, the export control could be changed again.

After all this time there is no channel  to find an exceptable solution to issues....despite all the ancient claims of presence.

Small part of the present 7.?billion as they are

seeking not survival but dominance over what?

How does being the best today relate to history?

"Only when China is dominating Asia will Koreans and Japanese begin seeing sense"

History will tell you that never happened entirely in the antiquity, precisely because of that little, prickly placed called Japan; you know, that little, awkward island nation "JT experts" like to disparage.

It won't happen in the future either; Japan will go nuclear if that is the only way to prevent a Chinese take-over.

A nuclear Japan will ensure China behaves appropriately.

Japan is an independent nation. It's ok SK checks with any country. The decision will not change. Japan doesn't hesitate to do correct things.

Hello disingenuous Abe's Japan. The sanctions Japan is putting on South Korea is because of judicial rulings that led to legitimizing compensation from Japanese companies who used Koreans as slave laborers. The official reasons (if you wish to call them that) are vaguely insinuating and in fact say nothing. Given the linkage of the global economy Japan's sanctions will hurt not only South Korea but also everyone else.

I've said before that a major weakness in the Japanese power elite is their overestimation of their own power. I will add that this is linked to Japan's perennial shortsightedness.

Throwing a monkey wrench to the computer business is not small matter. And is what is the LDP-Abe government has done.

Blast the typos! That last paragraph above should read: "Throwing a monkey wrench into the computer business is no small matter. And that is what is the LDP-Abe government has done.

This is a chess game played by trump and abe is just his pawn. Pls look into the future.

Pathetic losers. Just like schoolyard bullies, they start a row expecting a quick reward, but when resolutely rebuffed they start crying for help. Big brother won't help, Japan is not a milking cow.

These spats between Japan and South Korea play right into Chinas hands.

Its a little sad Japan isn't more contrite over the past and its sad that South Korea refuses to move on, both could do better.. however the day is coming sooner rather than later when Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and South East Asian Countries will need to band together if they want to balance a growing china. That growing China is going through growing pains, and that is when things get dangerous.

Lamilly, no thanks. China can keep to China thanks very much.

This is embarrassing. Now Daddy USA is gonna have to spank the two Asian twins: “You two behave now. Got that? Moon? Abe? Don’t make me have to get the hose.”

Hope this thread wouldn't be disabled before I read the news and all the comments.

How come you folks could possibly keep sticking all day every day? Amazing.
