I told you Gemba , that you have to follow only what US says.

all game is for oil. war for oil. stop war, all people want peace,

3 ( +3 / -0 )

Good step. Took some time. Japan can find oil in other gulf countries that are somewhat akin to Japan's values.

tmarie, big deal the American troops went only into the safe areas.

But you said in another thread that you 'choose to remember Operation Tomodachi'.

j4p4nFTWJan. 12, 2012 - 07:58PM JST Congratulations to the US and Japan for standing up to the bully religious leaders in Iran. Iran is threatening to nuke the US and repeatedly has threatened Israel, a nation that has done nothing but peace, with-----

When did Iran threaten to nuke the US and threaten Israel ? Show us.

tmarie, I do not doubt you about the SDF. They will sit around with their thumbs up their censored. A lack of initiative is a common problem in Japan. It is always check and check again to see if they can get "permission" to do something or just waiting around for orders. US Marines on the other hand do not suffer from this issue. My husband knows me and I do not hate Americans or the troops. He says I have an "inferiority complex", it must be because I grew up as a second class person. Anyhow not sure how Japan will survive with a 10 percent shortage nevermind a possible 90 percent shortfall. Where will Japan get the needed engery? Japan only produces 10 percent of its oil needs. They can bring up all of the nuke plants but it would help somewhat in electric but there would not be enough oil for basic transportation. Will America help with oil from Alaska? There will be no oil from Russia and any oil from Indonesia would be expensive, perhaps $300 a barrel.

I knew.

Sanctions can hurt the country that applies them as much as the country to which they are applied. The Obama Administration, however, seems to be quite skillful at orchestrating diplomatic (as opposed to military) pressure. Between Iran's hyperinflation, the assassination of nuclear scientists, and now the oil squeeze, Iran's government is feeling the pressure on multiple fronts without having an obvious target upon which to vent its frustration.

If America wants Japan to stop buying Iranian oil that is fine. However they are going to have and help find another source of oil. Japan is in a crisis, the tsunami and earthquake are still being felt. Without enough oil the economy will fail faster. So what is America going to do to help?

1 ( +1 / -0 )

It's OK for the US to be paranoid about Iran attacking them with nuclear weapons, but why do Japanese politicians have to listen to this crap and take it seriously?

As to which is the more insane, the US or Iran? To be honest, it's very difficult to tell.

Why don't they BOTH get rid of their nukes, now that might be a step forward.

My thoughts exactly.

oginome, I tend to be a bit hard on Americans. Then again I expect better from them. What people forget is it is not just Japan that has been asked to do without Iranian oil. They export 2.4 million barrels of oil per day. That is 5 percent of world production. It is not just Japan that will feel the pinch. There is the EU, India, South Korea and other countries. Now Nigeria is going to go offline with another 2 million barrels per day. So tell me what plan do the Americans have except higher oil prices $150 to $200 a barrel? This will hurt them as well. MeanRingo, you are a funny man. How about all of the Americans driving around in their big trucks and SUV's?

1 ( +2 / -1 )

m5c32, I do not think it will even slow them down. However the people of Iran will suffer. If anything it will consoudate power for the current government.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

Yeah, that'll show the Iranians...

Sarcasm aside, it IS a convenient excuse to start some of the junk reactors, though. I'm sure J-gov is feeling very shrewd right about now.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

If provocation and an aggressive move from the Iranians is what the US wants, they have it.

I wonder what the Dow index would look like in a month or two.

gentle way to kill innocent peoples, by making country poor and poor. no medicine no food, very great.

Oh... I forgot! I forgot that Japan is really the USS Japan... just following orders!

Back on topic please.

Will the Americans help us in our time of need?

They did, remember?

from all countries Japan should be the one leading the efforts to stop the Iranians from getting atomic weapons. Japan should have stopped doing business with the Iranians long time ago!

Iran is a great country, with great people, BUT with fanatic leadership. They kill their own people and meddle and terrorize other countries (Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Gaza, Israel, Argentine...).

Is this the kind of country you are supporting, just to show that Japan is "independent" from US leadership? Is this the thanks you have for the country that supported Japan for the past 60 years and supported your Peace and prosperity?!

Without enough oil the economy will fail faster. So what is America going to do to help?

Nothing. It will continue sucking oil.

What is you need to do is to drop your fear, get some courage and place some smaller nuclear plants in the middle between sea and mountains. This is the only hope.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

Well, the Nigerians have gone on strike as well so the price of oil is on the way up. Just what the economy needs - NOT! I am not sure that the sanctions are going to slow Iran down anyway; they don't seem to worry about popular opinion much. Sort of like NK in that respect. It's going to be a long winter.

This is going to hurt Japan, the Americans DEMAND so much from my country. Now they demand we destroy our economy to further their war goals. Will the Americans help us in our time of need? Not a chance! They will gloat about their American superiority and they are blind.

Yuri, what the Americans demand from Japan is peanuts compared to what mainland Japan demands from your home prefecture of Okinawa -- to say nothing of what they demanded from you before 1945, and before 1903.

America did help you in your time of need. They were much more benevolent during the 1945-1972 occupation than the Yamato ever were.

I suppose by worse and even worse just around the corner you mean you will no longer be able to sit in your cars idling for hours on end while you catch up on your favourite tv shows? Me thinks Japan could save a good chunk of oil by turning their cars off.

Great! This should prevent the Iranians getting the bomb for another five days! Super!

The world oil market prices affects everyone the same way. If the prices go up for Japan, they will go up for the US and the EU. It's not as if Japan will be the only one affected.

Whatever the consequences from this embargo, it will be a lot better than the possible alternative of someone having to go in there and disable the nuke making facilities by force.

This attempt by the US and the EU and Japan at soft power, is better than a military alternative.

tmarie, I complain about the government in Tokyo all of the time. Losing 10 percent of our oil supply is a bad thing. If America stops the flow of oil from Iran it will be worse.

0 ( +1 / -1 )

War goals? War goals? Is there war in Iran right now? I didn't think there was, but maybe I missed it ...

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

You really need to look who is all behind this- Israel of course. Just look at the government of USA and see who is really running everything. Pity Japan can't stick with the other countries who get their oil from Iran and tell the US to take a hike. I get sick of hearing how Iran is so bad. So what if they have a nuclear program- most everyone else has. Just more war mongering from the US.

-1 ( +2 / -3 )

Congratulations to the US and Japan for standing up to the bully religious leaders in Iran. Iran is threatening to nuke the US and repeatedly has threatened Israel, a nation that has done nothing but peace, with violence. It is time for the Iranian people to overthrow these monsters and join us on the Right Side of History.

@MeanRingo. Wouldn't that deindustrialize Japan, negatively affecting GDP growth? Oil is used for many things in modern times.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

Get rid of religion , we can all stop worrying about oil and war.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

oh boy ww3 will begin soon and this is no joke...lol!!! Will the Americans help us in our time of need? the gov. is stripping away your freedom... find out on youtube. lol amerika i feel for u ppl.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

if anything it will consoudate power for the current government.

Depends how shaky it gets. A great number of Iranians are very progressive people -quite european in thinking; it's just that they are severely oppressed by the current gov't. With high inflation, deficits, high youth unemployment, that makes for some large disaffected populations.

Even if it proves ineffective, this has to be tried before more disruptive alternatives become the viable options.

Where will Japan get the needed engery?

Pssst, Iran isn't the only country willing to sell Japan oil. They'll get it from the world market, just like everyone else does. They'll have to up the percentages from Gulf states, Russia and Africa.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

I do not think Japan would listen to the USA if they, the Japanese, did not have a PLAN B, Japan best have a Plan B, or as Yuri etc..are saying easy way to destroy this economy ASAP without good, cheap Iranian oil.

-2 ( +2 / -4 )

It is so frustrating and embarrasing to see Japan always bow to Uncle Sam on pretty much anything the US wants them to do. It's like an owner talking to his puppy dog, "sit boy... there you go, good boy!!" When will the J-government and really, the male population of Japan grow a spine and finally do what is better for Japan and not what its American master tells it. Is the USA going to guarantee 10% of Japan's oil??? I doubt it! It's because of this type of policy blundering that no power in the world takes Japan seriously.... what a waste!! Shameful!!!

-2 ( +5 / -7 )

Will the Americans help us in our time of need?

I do recall the US military up and working after 3/11...

-2 ( +4 / -5 )

So instead of being negative about the US, why not voice you complaints about Japan?

-3 ( +0 / -3 )

Japan might have plenty of oil tankers in reserve and in case of need might even supply to US :)

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

Yuri, the Americans did a heck of a lot more than the SDF did the first few weeks. You should see someone about al that hate you have inside you.

-4 ( +0 / -4 )

As a driver of a vehicle that runs on a product refined from Iranian Oil all I can say ... from the bottom of my heart: Thank you very much you stupid moronic excuse for a public officials who know nothing more than how to kiss American posterior. You only tell what US of A is telling you while we have to suffer from rising prices at the pump! How are you going to compensate us for your idiotic decision?

Historically Japanese government has done nothing but harm to Japanese people! There was never a single decision made by Japanese government that benefited the population! Time for people to rise! Occupy...Kasumigaseki!!!

-5 ( +6 / -11 )

tmarie, big deal the American troops went only into the safe areas. As for their "help" the Japanese government is building a new hospital and lots of large American type housing in Okinawa for them. We could be building this in the effected areas. If Iran cuts off all of the oil we are screwed! So in the short term how does Japan replace 10 percent of its oil needs? I would call for strict rationing and yes Americans that would affect you on the bases. If you think the economy is bad now, just wait. The worse and even worse is just around the corner.

-5 ( +4 / -9 )

typical bleeding hearts on this forum totally ignoring the very real threat of a nuclear Iran and what that would mean for the rest of the world. I can smell the Birkenstocks and horn-rimmed glasses from here.
