Hiding out in hospital, and depriving another patient of a room...
Reckless
I wish I could resign.
Numan
The old hiding out in the hospital (AKA Rest Cure) when there is a social/political scandal. Abe's party knows it so well. That is one less bed a COVID patient or another seriously ill person can not use.
noriahojanen
She is resigning.
Hospitals are not refuge centres...
zichi
not if they are in a private room.
Aly Rustom
This administration is just beyond disgusting. The number of scandals do not seem to let up. Every other day it seems that there is a new one.
But here's the kicker- the electorate will STILL continue to vote the LDP back in, so what do they care?

The grilling of public officials is on TV but nada on the firm that Suga's son belongs to. Both industry and government should be held accountable and Tohokushinsha company should be banned from all government related work.

Was the dinner so bad at that cheap price?

'That has raised suspicions of cronyism in a nation where plum jobs are often hard to come by without connections.'
Well, that sentence basically confirms that cronyism is necessary to get a 'plum job' so there isn't much to be suspicious about! It's the norm.

Looks like she pulled an Abe. Scandals start piling up, suddenly I don't feel so well. I'm going to resign for health reasons.

Disgusting cowardly behaviour. But not just from her, she is forced into this by the Abe administration.
kurisupisu
I wish we had more salient details!
Was there a wheelchair involved?
How long is the hospitalization?
Is an IV drip part of the treatment?
Was the dinner steak?
If not, what was it?
Wine or beer?
Perhaps no alcohol?
The media is really failing to answer these tough questions and the whole nation is waiting...
Cricky
The media are failing because at the moment there is nobody to hand pick who gets to ask a question.

Should have eaten less, avoids those "internal blasts"!
Seriously, she should have thought about that first (that dining even).
Would have saved her lots of trouble!

"She had previously said she did not remember or was not fully aware of the circumstances."
Ahhh... the Japanese excuse. And the "sickness" reminds me of the tummy ache the CEO of TOUDEN (Shimizu) suddenly got and went into hiding for after the meltdown in Fukushima. It's called running away like the cowards they are, and this woman is no exception.

Spelling mistake in the third word - it is “c o n f i r m e d”.
The only way to fix this problem once and for all is to shrink the role of government and embed the change into the constitution. So long as central planners have power, they will be targets for corruption and humans are too weak to resist. I might be too weak myself. Hence we have to change the game, once and for all.

If it wasn’t them it’s be others.
There will be more exposed, until the day that we have government power restricted, and more responsibility for our own lives.

She has a case of acute caughtredhandeditis. She will need to remain hospitalized for a few weeks, so that the incident can be surgically removed from the public's memory.

@Aly
Noticed how this administration loved trump? "Birds of a feather!"
Do the hustle
That has raised suspicions of cronyism in a nation where plum jobs are often hard to come by without connections.
Japan is run on cronyism and connections. Look at the ‘extensive’ list of PMs over the last twenty years. Most have relatives that were either past PMs or extremely rich and powerful.

@zichi
Wrong. Hospitals have a limited amount of private rooms and due to corona there is a severe squeeze on the availability of private rooms ( I had an operation in October last year and it was very difficult to get a private room ). So she is depriving someone of a room if (as it is probably the case) she doesn't actually need it.

@zichi
Private rooms are not used for corona patients. Only the person/patient can decide if they actually need it. I also had an operation last year and had a private room.
Hospital bed occupancy is never 100%.
samuraivunyl
Where does it say in the article she is a corona patient??
Hospital bed occupancy is never 100.... Says who? Do you keep statistics from every hospital in Japan ? We are taking about private hospital bed occupancy.... Which can be at 100 percent ...it definitely was when I was in last October.

She's in hospital for that nasty wound she got from falling on her own sword
Goodlucktoyou
Wonder if she is staying in a ¥70000 a night private hospital in an onsen town with views of spring flowers blooming, paid for by the govt?
3RENSHO
Henry Montag, and Goodlucktoyou: Very good! Excellent comments! Insightful!

A tried and tested method used by Abe twice.
moonbloom
Female or male, doesn't matter.
The LDP is rotten to the core.
