I don't understand it. Here's a chance for Suga to cement himself as a legitimate leader by having authority to restore devastated economies. Yet he still act like he has to consult with Abe.
If I was his advisors I would have had an aid package wrapped up for the visit.

Translated from the Suga: I have heard and will respond accordingly by pouring money into travel subsidies, Olympics and financial bailouts.

Oh you betcha. The amount of money they were able to funnel into public works and straight into the back pockets of the regular fatcats must be astronomical. A true victory for the poor poor political families and their friends. Whilst on the other hand the lucky people of Tohoku have a lovely concrete wall around the coast, probably isnt high enough to stop a tsunami, but shhhhhhh, its a something.

Keeping up with the current issues at hand or what.....

Another performance by a useless un-elected puppet PM while siphoning money that was earmarked for rebuilding devastated areas to Olympics.

Oh but let's not forget, the Olympic sales pitch was all built around milking support for the recovery of Tohoku.
Emotional manipulation at its Japanese best - If you don't give us the Olympics, it means you don't care about the survivors. And of course, Fukushima is totally under control, said Pinocchio Abe in his Mario cosplay.
Then Tokyo gets the bid and the real grift begins. Tohoku just dropped off the news map. Until now, when Suga thinks there might be a few more Olympic yen to squeeze out of the poor abandoned survivors.
This whole bread and circuses con game is utterly sickening. Scrap the 16 days of running and jumping, and spend the money where it's been needed for nearly 10 years.

Too little too late. Japan could have entirely rebuilt these local regions if the government hadn’t prioritized the Olympics instead. And I seriously doubt the Olympics will happen next summer and, if they do, hardly anyone will come. So no economic benefit, just a waste of tax payer money.

The highly radioactive waste is recycled into concrete.

This looks more like a bad publicity stunt, his popularity has been dropping a lot lately and I would be offended If I was part of the people affected and was used like this.
@Derek Grebe
IT would be much more meaningful just to cancel the whole thing and dedicate the funds to Tohoku, that would have shown a much more honest interest.

The delayed, uncertain Olympics get tens of billions of yen EXTRA funding.
