At his weight, he could participate.

Put him in a mawashi and let him compete

13 ( +18 / -5 )

I doubt he has interest, it'll be funny to see him fall asleep during the tournament. That or some other embarrassing cultural mishap.

7 ( +13 / -6 )

Ha, highbrow golf is hurting his street cred. How else could he try to connect with the workin' man, take in some boxing matches with Justin Bieber?

He must thing it's like wrestling... He will be disappointed !

Watch out for those flying zabutons.

Trump now: "I love Sumo. The Sumo is great!"

Trump 2020: "Sumo? I don't know anything about Sumo."

12 ( +15 / -3 )

With all the recent allegations of bullying, he should fit right in.

3 ( +7 / -4 )

Let's hope one of the big lads lands botty first on his ugly mug! That would be a right laugh.

Trump and his aides have requested box seats located near the first three rows

No, that's too close, he might get crushed by Takayasu when Hakuho sends him flying out. He should have a seat where Sean Connery sat for You Only Live Twice.

At his weight, he could participate.

He would destroy them, just like he destroyed Vince McMahon, haha

@Serrano "box seats located near the first three rows"? There aren't any box seats, just cushions by the ring.

Abe is already meeting Trump at the end of April in Washington and then Trump is coming to Osaka for the G-7 in June. So why the trip in May? Because for some reason Japan is desperate that he be the first foreign leader to meet the new emperor. It's ridiculous. Why would Trump even want to come to the same country in two consecutive months?

And I hope someone in the State Department tells Trump how to pronounce Abe's name. For the past two years, he's been calling him "Prime Minister Abi."

5 ( +8 / -3 )

@Zichi - Abe showed him how to do that. CNN only showed Trump do it for whatever reason!

"So he'll bow and seat on the floor or will they provide a chair. Hope he can show more dignity than on the last visit when he feeding koii with Abe, just tip the whole feed box upside down."

4 ( +4 / -0 )

Trump sitting on the floor will be interesting or will they give him a special mini-folding chair?

4 ( +5 / -1 )

@alfie. I was thinking the same thing. If it looks like a sumo guy will quash the worm, does the secret service shoot the wrestler before he lands on top, or do they jump forward and throw their bodies in front to limit the impact?

2 ( +5 / -3 )

No, please do not despoil Ryogoku by your presence, DJT.

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

Trump would get bored soon because he is not interested in sumo at all. He also would get tired of sitting on floor for hours without sofa. Finally he may suddenly say "I wanna join the wrestling up there." His SPs would be in big panic.

@Serrano "box seats located near the first three rows"? There aren't any box seats, just cushions by the ring.

@gokai It's in the article, lol. It says NEAR the first three rows.

Death by sumo wrestler would be funnnnny

Gosh, Rat, wishing death upon the President of the United States... pretty dark.

No, please do not despoil Ryogoku by your presence, DJT.

He's not gonna spoil Ryogoku, Patricia, he's gonna create some excitement! Hee hee!

-2 ( +3 / -5 )

If you encourage him he'll just keep showing up.

Not sure if Trumpy's got the attention span to take in a sumo bout.

One needs to be focussed anywhere from 5 secs to 1 min or even more.

I guess Shinzo will be around the mark for the big pre-election foto-op, lecturing the Man on the finer elements of Sumo chivalry.

Fabulous news. Welcome to the world of Sumo Trump! It is great the leader of the free world is a fan of Sumo, it would be a real boost for the sport worldwide. The world will all be tuned in as Trump watches and cheers.

PM Abe will hopefully attend with Trump, and explain the technical side of the sport to him.

With the size of that rump better make it a maxi-folding chair.

Other than the major demand for and cost for security, at least he is participating in the public. It is not like going golfing at one of Japan's golf courses with Abe. It in fact reflects Putin's interest in Judo. Why not? He may get a taste of some of Japanese culture and customs as he did feeding the carps.

2 ( +2 / -0 )

Invite Boris Johnson at the same time and let them have at it. I still can't get that scene of him tackling the Japanese schoolboy out of my mind. Maybe throw in Putin, he could judo flip the whales out of the dohyo.

1 ( +2 / -1 )

First I am surprised he didnt request the Emperor's box! I can't imagine Trump sitting on a tatami in one of those "boxes".

He is going to need one for himself alone, and if the sumo association puts chairs in it just to appease his "arse", I say "hell no", let Trump sit up in the rafters, he and his "entourage" of secret service are going to block the view for everyone sitting around him!

Oh and I can just hear the gaffes coming from his mouth;

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

I for one am PROUD that PRESIDENT TRUMP will be coming to Japan and will attend Sumo.

2 ( +3 / -1 )

I think it’s a really, really swell idea that President Trump will attend a sumo match. Sumo is a national sport of Japan so his attendance will definitely result in a spike in his popularity in this country. Gosh, if he should get a hankering to enter the ring all the better. The greater number of seats needed for him and his entourage will outrage those foreigners who buy the cheapest tickets then move down to seemingly unoccupied places, but, what the hay! Let them live with their hate priapism.

Point 1

Trump at Sumo?

I for one

am waiting for the

MEMES!!

Point 2

This makes political sense. I hope that the foreign media is banned so that they cannot fake the news, like with what CNN did with the koi fish feeding scandal, where CNN cropped out PM Abe leading Trump through the ceremony. That's similar to what Stalin did. Bad News Bears.
