Promising news. But why are they not talking about increasing military drills and joint exercises off the Taiwan coast? Japan will be a great ally for Taiwan if it comes under attack. BUT article 9 absolutely MUST be scrapped first.

Japan has spent about 600 billion USD on island building at Okinotori, while condemning island building by China in the South China Sea. In both cases, national territory is claimed over an area that was previously uninhabited. Also interesting, Japan has been seizing Taiwanese fishing boats near Okinotori, while ignoring Korean and Chinese fishing boats in the area.

Is there a conclusion to be reached?

What the People's Republic of China is doing is building islands far removed from its country by clearly invading the territorial waters of other countries and their EEZ areas. In addition, there is already a final judgement of the International Court of Justice in The Hague. Condemning the construction of artificial islands outside Chinese territory.

According to that sentence. All the artificial islands that China has built are illegal, except for the northern half of the Paracel islands. That those islands would be within Chinese territorial waters and EEZ.

As you can see. The situations are completely different. Japan has not invaded any territory of another state. Neither have its territorial waters. Japanese artificial islands are completely legal under international law. Because they were built on Japanese territory.

I hope I've helped you clear this up.

It's not the same thing. Okinotori islands are clearly in Japanese territorial waters and EEZ. And so they are recognized worldwide by both the United Nations and the International Maritime Union.

There is no dispute between Japan and Taiwan. Not to mention that the latter publicly admits that they are Japanese islands. Even if they are artificial.

Japan should stop running around the Dohyō and have talks with ROC-TW about re-establishing full diplomatic relations asap.

This would boost the maritime cooperation talks a hundred and one fold in civilian and military matters.

After all , isn't TW the most Nippon friendly nation on this galaxy?

Good to see two friendly and democratic nations discuss and resolve their problems in a civilzed and cordial manner. A couple of certain countries should watch and learn.

Diplomatic relations with China will happen only after Taiwan itself declares independence, and the U.S. recognizes it. Then Japan, Australia, India, UK, EU. everybody will follow suit.

Japan must abide by the Bushido Spirit and uphold the virtues of the Samurai in its maritime talks with very Nippon friendly ROC-TW .

The whole world knows that Taipei is under threat of annexation by Beijing as a result of Uncle Sam's treacherous abandonment.

As a nation that values loyalty , should Bushido Japan act like the USA who says to a drowning ROC-TW, 'hey dude change your name first before I'll dive and help ya!'

Or should Japan act like a true Samurai and uses the current maritime talks to unconditionally help the beleaguered friend without demanding that it changes its name first?

Japan and many other nations are already helping Taiwan by maintaining relations and trade. Unlike smaller nations that are bullied by China into ignoring Taiwan. But if you expect other nations to risk a war with China, a war that is unthinkable with U.S. backing, Taiwan will have to show it's own determination first by declaring independence. Has nothing to do with 武士道 at all.
