Amazing gesture. Taiwan is always there for Japan in times of disaster. Closest firend and ally of Japan, after the USA. Let them join QUAD.

Japan along with every other democratic (and even non-democratic) nations need to support Taiwan and ensure that it will not fall victim to the mainland dictatorship.

Words to be expected. Taiwan needs its allies, militarily and economically.

Thank you Taiwan. Your friendship and help is always appreciated. We will remember who is there for Japan in time of need.

At least Taiwan is trying: instead of fake S. Korea actions and gestures, breaking agreements, bashing Japan every opportunity.

Choosing instead to exclusively have a robust diplomatic love with the authoritarian Peoples Republic of China!

Japan cannot really be blamed for accepting PRC as the "legitimate" China, and not Taiwan. It was the US who normalized relations with the Communists, and put pressure on Japan to cut off Taiwan. Japan needs to wait for the USA to recognize Taiwan, hopefully within 1-2 years.

Btw, you just have to love the Taiwanese. They are everything China could have been had it not been for Mao.

You are right about USA being the original China lover.

I would not say the US loved China then. Far from it. It was purely a geo-strategic move. Mao and the Soviets hated each other. The US becoming closer to China forced the Soviets to take a lot of divisions that otherwise would have been stationed in Eastern Europe or nearby threatening NATO and put these divisions on the Chinese border. It stretched the Soviet military tremendously.

After Mao's death Deng began to open China to business and that opened up the possibility of gradually westernizing China and perhaps eventually democratizing it in the manner of how both South Korea and Taiwan went from being harsh military dictatorships to the democracies they are today. The possibility of a western oriented China is an entirely worthy long term goal and much of the west believed "engagement" as it was called would lead to that. And obtw, a western oriented China might not be hostile to Taiwan. That too appeared to be working out until Xi Jinping became CCP General Secretary and China's President. The administration of Xi's immediate predecessor, Hu Jintao, was experimenting with freely contested elections at a local level in some municipalities and there were even serious discussions of allowing private land ownership. The west wasn't delusional. But Xi came out of nowhere to ascend to power mainly because the most powerful factions in the CCP could not agree on a new leader. Xi was seen as sort of this innocuous compromise candidate who didn't really have a big patronage network inside the CCP to exert power. He was viewed as weak and maybe temporary. Believe me when I say lots of people are surprised with how Xi has turned out, and he has much of the senior CCP members fearing for their very lives and the lives of their families. Xi is as hated inside the CCP as he is hated on the outside in the west, maybe even moreso. It is up to the west to convince enough of the CCP that China would be better off internationally with someone other than Xi Jinping at the helm. Not so easy a thing to do however.

"As I have said time and again, our resolve to continue to support Japan is unwavering," Tsai tweeted in Japanese. "Taiwan will rush to you any time the people of Japan need assistance."

Taiwan is the most Japanese friendly country on earth yet Tokyo cut off, ISIS-style the diplomatic neck that once connected both democratic and like minded nations.

Choosing instead to exclusively have a robust diplomatic love with the authoritarian Peoples Republic of China!

Not only that but Nippon even took advantage of Taipei's diplomatic isolation by continuing to squat illegally on Ilan county's Tiauyutai islands.

Where is the da-kine Bushido Spirit of Today's Japan?
