the only country that would fear a change in the trade agreement is the country that is taking advantage of the other

Japan will propose a new framework to discuss trade issues with Washington as a way to coax it back to TPP

America will propose a framework of American tariffs in return for Japanese tariffs as a way to coax Japan to adopt free trade, faster.

Japan is so afraid of competion or having better foods, products introduced it actually links it to the country's security. That's a very week argument.

Abe can't kowtow to Trump, not with the problems he is facing here at home, and he isn't in a position to push Trump either, because as everyone knows, Trump is going to do what he wants anyway.

This "made-up" summit is just an attempt by Abe to shore up his own poll numbers.

Too much talk. That's the Japanese way.

Enjoy the golf.

That's proof Japan has been good at getting good deals... Trump is gonna get rolled.

I think that is going to be Trump's end game. He has been singling Japan out since the beginning. He is not going to let this go. Japan is in a really precarious position with NK, and they really need the US on board with this. Trump is very much aware of this, and I am sure he will use this to his advantage. I also think that in the end, security will prevail over trade, and it is very possible Trump might get what he wants. Linking trade with security is a very smart move especially at this critical time.

As long as Trump knows that ultimately its not worth pissing off Japan too much and see them draw closer to China for the sake of a few $. The U.S needs Japan as its key ally in Asia along with South Korea.

The item for the economy and trade: I read days ago here in JT that Japan was positive to USA re-open talk on TPP. But, what's this now, fear? Just don't be positive and avoid talk the TPP matters. Better focus on FTA re-negotiation. USA is always a troublemaker to all members on TPP. I recall the troubles that happened with other members, too.

The item for military/diplomacy action with N. Korea: Simply saying, Trump will have worldly popularity for this meeting, even it won't be successful as he imagine. Abe brings up abductions and short/mid-range missiles that will be much later at the next stages.

The conclusive item: The light and shade of those 2 top-leaders will be clear in the next election.

Japan needs the US more than the other way around, don't kid yourself for a second here. Abe should be more worried about HIM pissing Trump off, as the markets here would plunge through the floor if Trump hammers on Abe.

Yeah like that's gonna happen..

The U.S needs Japan as its key ally in Asia along with South Korea.

I think I'll let Yubaru answer this one...

Exactly. Well said

The Japanese people keep forgetting that they are under US occupation and have been so for over 70 years. When will Japan seek to regain its sovereignty? When will Japan sail its own course and tell the US it is time to leave and to take their bases with them? Japan should have its own independent foreign policy and not just be there for US military bases.

and drive Japan into the waiting arms of China? Doesn't have to be true, but Trump might blink

Mr. "Nippon Kaigi" Abe and his voodoo economic policies should have gone long ago.

It’s so simple. Israel ordered trump to attack Iran. Abe wants to change the constitution because of his family history. America doesn’t wanna pay for the war with Iran, just get the oil. Japan will pay for it. Good luck with our pension money.

Trump is too late to join TPP. He wanted cars made in USA to export to TPP member countries.
