Has belonged? Koike has not been a member of the LDP since 2017. In fact, she is currently special adviser to the Tomin First on Kai (Tokyoites First) party.

Probably time to retire with these ongoung health issues. Koike will be 70 next year. You cant expect seniors to always be in perfect health and be able to work as they did as a 30 year old.

Time to step down. It's clear now she's not up to the job. Managing time and commitments and prioritizing tasks, involving often saying no, is essential for any job with responsibility. She appears incapable of doing this.

"She has often worked on weekends and late at night....." That describes the life of most Japanese who do this without the six-figure salary. As a human being I wish her a speedy recover but the sympathy tug is just being tone deaf.

Time for her to retire,I don’t like her political vision (nippon kaigi affiliate) and I don’t like her as a person.

Koike sees her chances as the first female PM slipping away. Partly, it is the fault of the drones that always vote LDP every election without thinking for themselves. That is the reason Kono got screwed. She probably does not know what is next.

She is being viewed as part of the Abe, Suga, and Koike axis. It is a "double edge sword" because she can't shake it, and she still needs it partly to keep her political career afloat. Unfortunately for her, she is not wacko enough to be with the higher echelon LDP boys or to be independent.

"Severe fatigue", retire, it is walk away time, put your feet up . spend time with family and friends. Chill out.

This is natures way of warning you enough is enough.

While I agree she is unfit to serve if this is the case, it is likely part of a broader political play. Her last hospitalization also coincided, conveniently, with an election.

It allows her to avoid speaking out about the LDP and election result. It simplifies her way to returning to the LDP at some point. She is very aware that is her best/only path to becoming PM down the line.

I’d be governor…… 20 years ago. (Man, Girl) got to know you limitations. At 69 feet up enjoy life.

Lingering Covid virus is a possibility.

This is Koike's "Abe Moment" to pretend that she is bowing out of politics for other reasons without looking like she is being pushed out for her actions and behavior.

Shinzo, Yoshihide, and Koike will return in some shape or form. They are just putting themselves in self-imposed exile until the scandals are forgotten in the minds of the public.

Aso is still anchored down nice and tight to throw them a life-line when the time is right!

Koike is a hack politician framed in the conservatism and reactionary politics that dominates the legislature and most branches of governing. She has no accomplishments of note. She should retire and go away.

If I were to choose, I would rather have an honest politician who worked too hard, than a corrupt politician who spent most of his time golfing and on social media.

She is one of my favorite persons in politics I would love to work for her. Get well soon and slow down.

At nearly 70, well if you were going to be a productive person it would probably be before now. Just be careful getting out of the bath it can be tricky at that age.

If she was Prime Minister of Japan dealing with Putin, Kim and Xi her job would be 10x harder then her current position right now.

Over the decades here, I've figured out how this is going to work out. Either she'll reappear, everyone will tap her on the shoulder and "thank you for your hard work and what you do for us" or she'll disappear for a while and then reappear with a bang. Because up until now, if it was a "fatigue", it was always like that. If it's something more serious, then usually the media won't publish the reason for a while and it's just discussed on TV. Or, conversely, they immediately publish that it's something serious, like end-stage cancer with metastases.

Just trying to ride the wave of someone else's success the last few years. But other than unprofessionalism and a strange form of hysteria, she's not doing a very good job. Yes, she's visible, but that's it.

She is well known for her hard works: her working hours at office have exceeded any governors before her by huge margin while cutting her salary in half.

She has relentlessly kept telling people day after day to stay home as much as possible to protect themselves and others; she kept pressuring the inept LDP government to do more against Covid-19. And she managed Tokyo Olympic successfully despite very difficult conditions.

She has earned more than enough to have some time to relax for herself.

We are sorry to hear it . . . we hope she feels better soon . . . !

I'm glad we have a mayor who works so hard. But she should be careful and care for herself.

She should be Prime Minister.
