Unwitting ? Hah! And just one... location ? Hah Hah ! Seriously.... who's kidding whom ?

There are several well known CCP "Police" Stations - you just got to ask the right Chinese people where they are...

Yet another slice of sovereignty salami. Decouple seems to be the only way to keep China at a safe distance.

20 ( +21 / -1 )

Wow. China is so daring. They are doing this all over the world. Time to stop them.

Curious that this issue should emerge amid so much aversion from the west to China...

A genocide like that being committed by the CCP against the Uyghurs will make a moral person question why their nation has a relationship with a genocidal power. Then you find that same genocidal nation is trying to extend their control of individuals outside their borders and inside yours, even kidnapping people from abroad and taking them back to China. So yeah the aversion as you call it is understandable and justified.

Japan's Foreign Ministry on Monday shared with lawmakers a rights group's report claiming that Tokyo is unwittingly hosting a so-called Chinese overseas police station, believed to monitor and threaten Chinese citizens abroad.

Ok I have an idea. Instead of the J-cops harassing law abiding foreigners needlessly for their Zairyu Cards how about they actually go after those stations and deport those scumbags. They should also work in Tandem with the west since this is not a problem exclusive to Japan. The scumbag CCP has its tentacles everywhere, and its time to cut them off.

This is highly likely happening.

In a recent case outside the Manchester UK Chinese consulate, a Chinese Hong Kong protestor was dragged in and beaten up.

Beijing has set up more than 100 so-called overseas police stations across the globe to monitor, harass, and in some cases repatriate Chinese ...

It’s obvious you don’t read free press much. These have been spotted in most the western countries. It’s a way to spy on their citizens, as they learn and see what freedom is…

There are reported and unreported but is well known cases (hundreds of them) of HK students disappearing then found dead in alleys, in the harbour etc., the same with crypto startup founders, media personality etc....If Japan do nothing about this, it will be complicit in murders.

Wechat is generally saying Jimmy Lai is lucky he only got 5 years jail terms, he could have been disappeared.

So what sort of visas are these Chinese commie spies here on?

14 ( +14 / -0 )

these offsite Chinese law enforcement offices are increasing in number worldwide and they should be stemmed. the PLA may not be invading foreign lands, but the Chinese police certainly is. If a Japanese national living in Japan, be ordered around by one of these C-cops, should one compliant with them?

7 ( +7 / -0 )

Not only China does this, other nations do it too.

Care to share? And tell us, do you think it makes it okay if other nations do it too?

11 ( +13 / -2 )

It’s by far not new or unique to Japan. Other international media also quite a while have reported of such existing ‘police stations’ in their countries and remotely CCP operated against Chinese opposition individuals or group members living there, observed, surveilled or threatened in their new living locations outside of China.

7 ( +7 / -0 )

Just another example of how China is dominating the world.

Even in our daily lives!

-1 ( +3 / -4 )

So what sort of visas are these Chinese commie spies here on?

probably the same as the majority of chinese spies in the US: "exchange students"

6 ( +7 / -1 )

The J cops just seem to drive in circles around their respective areas and hide in bushes trying to catch motorcycle and bicycle riders.

Just like the start of the pandemic Japanese authorities were slow to act and now there are foreign agents repressing people in Japanese soil!

The politicos in the LDP are just too indolent and self serving to run the country properly.

Their purpose is to not only keep watch on Chinese , but to influence the public and local government via social media trolling and other manipulation techniques.

12 ( +13 / -1 )

Deport them immediately as Persona non grata!!!

11 ( +12 / -1 )

I have been discussing this problem for months on JT. I was the first to mention it on JT. It is obvious there is a Chinese police station in Yokohama, Ikebukuro, and probably Okinawa.

5 ( +8 / -3 )

There is definitely a Chinese police station in Tokyo because who is going to keep an eye on Jack Ma.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

These Chinese police stations abroad or no different than the plot from Marvel's Secret Wars with the Skrulls coming out next year.

What is to stop these quasi police forces abroad from turning into terrorist cells or invasion troops?

4 ( +5 / -1 )

Arrest them and send them to deportation centers. Then deport them after a few months.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

Imagine China allowing Japan to set up a police station within its boundaries? I don't think so. Neither should Japan allow any other nation to set up police stations within its borders. Close these stations of terror down, now.

Tokyo unwitting host to Chinese 'police station,' report says:

Really? As far as such 'police station' is concerned, China would pale in comparison to US.

Don't forget, to every Chinese station, there are ~100 US police stations of such kind globally.

How about that..?

The Chinese made solar panels are infiltrating home in Japan from 2025 with major kickbacks for J manufacturers. The normal reaction would be that these panels have surveillance devices on the backside and should be banned. How come there haven't been any articles on that?

-5 ( +3 / -8 )

A conservative group within the LDP known as

"the Conference to Japan's Dignity and National Interest"

too wordy

why not just call it Nippon Kaigi

CCP thugs at work. Western countries take note....this is where you're heading...totalitarian government control.

3 ( +6 / -3 )

Is there any corner of the world left where there’s no CCP police stations ?

4 ( +4 / -0 )

I look forward to nations opening their own de-facto police stations inside China, and seeing China's response.

5 ( +6 / -1 )

There are Reds under your bed. Report your neighbor if you see them eat Chinese food.

A conservative group within the LDP

this may be a clue?

quiet! Do tell China what USAID really does.

-4 ( +2 / -6 )

Another shot fired in the war being waged by the US mainly but also the rest of the West against China. If you can suspend your biases, this is very clear to see.

-7 ( +1 / -8 )

In addition to repressing dissidents, the CCP used police stations abroad to propagate propaganda and influence while also gathering intelligence there.

1 ( +1 / -0 )

It's also causing discord, suspicion, and conflict among established Chinese communities around the world. Any activity or behavior about those deemed 'unpatriotic' is collected and sometimes results in hardships for their families back in China. No doubt there are also more heavy-handed consequences for those classified as 'traitors'.

The top of the Old Man of Hoy!

Any non diplomatic location these are functioning from should be immediately closed down and those working there arrested, those having committed crimes in the jurisdiction prosecuted and imprisoned, the rest deported forthwith. Any consulate involved closed and any diplomatic staff requested be removed and if not, declared persona non grata.

A clear, unambiguous and very firm message needs to be sent to China, or they will just keep pushing further and further.

And what exactly are they surveilling? Rooftops?

Interesting that this story comes from a Spanish 'human rights watch dog'. Who do you think funds this organization? My money would be on the USA. Even if this story is factually true it is trivial compared to the interference in other countries by US entities like the National Endowment for Democracy or USAID. The work that these organizations do is never mentioned in mainstream media.

Well, well, well. I heard from Chinese students in Osaka in the late 1980s about the 'student monitors' in Chinese consulates and the embassy, and names of particular Chinese diplomats, who were enforcing Chinese standards on the Chinese students and on their families back in China. Many embassies have Legal Attaches assigned that work for their Ministries or Departments of Justice. ostensibly to coordinate with host country counterparts or Educational Attaches who work with host country counterparts and also with Fulbright-type scholars or JICA/USAID type foreign assistance programs. What in the world do Embassies and Consulates do abroad if they are not 'advising' their citizens and monitoring what they are doing when abroad?

Chinese eyes and ears are everywhere . . . Tik-Tok.

The Chinese government continues to turn people and whole nations against them by their own acts.

The Chinese are reviled in Africa where their mining policies and he way they treat mine workers is detested, and Pakistan among the people of Baluchistan for their treatment of locals especially in the port of Gwadar. They are distrusted in Sri Lanka, Maldives and elsewhere for their One Belt One Road debt trap development policies. They are reviled on Papua New Guinea for the "data center" the nation went into debt for that turns out not to be a legitimate data center but rather a PLA run ELINT center. The Argentines grew so frustrated with Chinese fishing boats illegally fishing in their EEZ they sank one. It is not just "the west" that is turning against China.

@buua - this information is coming from within Japan, not outside.

@wallace - the case you're referring to, does not concern one of these Clandestine Chinese Police Stations - they operate elsewhere - such as in a backroom of a Chinese Restaurant, or other Chinese owned Businesses.
