"Two countries of 4 that are actively building a defence deterrent to counter China in the Indo-Pacific, the others being India and Australia. "

I hope that Vietnam, the Philippines, Malaysia and Indonesia can join this as well.

They are very concerned about that Chinese military base in the region. So is Taiwan.

If you look at a map of the South China Seas, Taiwan, Ryukyu Islands, Taiwan and Japan, you'll see why Okinawa is important. Okinawa hosts the closest U.S. military bases. In the event of a military crisis in the South China Seas region, U.S. and allied forces based in Okinawa can reach that region quicker than from bases in Japan or Guam.

> Hiro S Nobumasa: "Relying on the Amerikano hybrid 'ally-occupation forces' for the defense of the Motherland is the absolute pantomime of once proud Nippon."

Well, be thankful, because pantomime of a "once proud (and murderous... don't forget what got it destroyed!) Nippon" or not, you'd be forced to stand up and sing to a Chinese flag instead of the Hinomaru, or else you'd just be a pile of ashes.

"What is now happening to the only Asian country to defeat the Russian and British-Australian navies is sad."

You forgot to mention slaughtered more than 10 million across Asia, including raping women and children and forcing them and others into prostitution and other slavery. If you're going to mention "the good old days", be honest at least.

I have read your writings for a while. I could say that they are the lowest Japan hating products in this page. My country had the "luck" to be tramped by the German and the Soviet Red Army. They looted every movable, raped the women from child to elderly. Dragged 800000 men and women for "malenkij robot" "little work" in Gulag camps. Allied killed the POWs for they daily foods or just fun. GIs raped japanese girls in not only Okinawa, and even in the middle of the Ginza. /A japanese woman said./

Of course it is not fashionable to talk about the cruelty and abusing of Allied Armies. They were not good guys at all. You had better shut your backbiting, arrogant mouth up before lecture Japan!

After the WWII. 20 million people were killed /and killing in this moment as well/ in the constant war worldwide till today. leading or fuelling by the biggest agressor USA.

Kim never threatened to launch their missiles 50 miles off Okinawa and or Hiroshima.

NK have no quarrel with Japan.

The Americans are hyping Pyongyang's plan to let their missiles land 68 miles so far away from Guam as an attack on Andersen afb and Dededo which is a plain lie.

This warmongering posture by the hybrid 'ally-colonizer' of Nippon is putting the lives of millions of children, women and male civilians at risk not only in Nagasaki but also Seoul which will be the center of the massive maiming and hemorrhage so far away from Washington D.C.

Never did Jung Un threatened Okinawa despite the presence of the gargantuan American military bases because he knows that the Ryukyus is the official 'Crimea of Asia ' whose people are still under virtual American military rule.

Hoping Shinzo will soon be cured of the Stockholm Syndrome and make Nippon a proud and independent nation again .

People must wake up to the fact that their was no such a thing as a sneak attack that occurred a long time ago and the propaganda of that era is now again being rejuvenated against NK after being successful in the 'WMD of Saddam ' alibi in the Iraq invasion that eventually gave birth to ISIS.

As they say ... fooled us once , shame on them, fooled us twice shame on us!

Well done. Let the wailing whining. Go Japan!

There was many reasons Japan decided not to have military forces. I think this general needs to learn at least WWII Japanese military behaviors.

Japan has to stay away from instigation by American general. N Korea never expressed to attack Japan.

There is a story about N Korea. In business section. People are not dyeing with hunger.

"Washington has long encouraged Japan to take on more defence responsibility even though the country is militarily constrained by a U.S.-written constitution imposed after the end of World War II."

It does seem contradictory, but if the Japanese people what to increase and strengthen their military I think they can change their constitution. They are a recognized free and sovereign country and the era of militant territorial expansionism seems to be far behind.

Two countries of 4 that are actively building a defence deterrent to counter China in the Indo-Pacific, the others being India and Australia. That potential alliance has the numbers, but India, Japan and Australia need to do more in terms of defence spending, particularly the latter two. India is probably doing all it can for a developing country. There needs to be top level collaboration on defence research as well, because China is pouring huge resources into this area. Economically, all need to pull back on Chinese imports dramatically and replace as much as possible with imports from ASEAN, Europe, South America etc etc.

Relying on the Amerikano hybrid 'ally-occupation forces' for the defense of the Motherland is the absolute pantomime of once proud Nippon.

Japan should build a strong armed forces that could strike anywhere and farther than the juggernaut that was the Japanese Imperial Army.

What is now happening to the only Asian country to defeat the Russian and British-Australian navies is sad.

Tokyo is still suffering from a more severe case of Stockholm syndrome making it helpless when the Amerikano colonizers officially made the Ryukyus the Crimea of Asia for eons and still counting.

@ Nerakai;

More accurately, Japan is a client state of the US.

I believe that the US would act in defence of any western Pacific nation only if US interests were directly threatened. If US interests and facilities weren't at risk in a conflict between Japan and any other nation, then Japan would be left to its own devices. Most of the multilateral and bilateral military treaties the US have only compel the US to "consult" if its treaty partner is threatened -- i.e. the US is only compelled to "think about" helping defend its ally, not to actually do anything to assist.

@Nerakai

In other words, Japan is American territory.

It's this kind of 19th century perception/attitude dragged into present day diplomacy/ relationship of nations that really alienates those nations.

Won't matter if it's NK -- regardless of whom they attack; IF they attack, they are done. So it'll be all or nothing. With China, I think we would see the US back down VERY quickly on this rhetoric if it is merely China taking over an uninhabited island or venturing into Japanese territory to claim something. Japan would quickly say it's an attack, and the US, worried about how it would threaten trade, would argue it is not. If China went full out attack and war, as with NK, it would be all or nothing.

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

Dukeleto - how were the crosshairs placed? They have been there the whole time. Except hostile countries against Japan will think twice before attacking since it will give us a reason to rain freedom on those countries and free their souls from their bodies :)

The United States' most senior military officer on Friday said North Korea understands that an any attack on Japan is equal to one on the US itself -- and vice versa.

Thanks for that! You have effectively moved the North Korean cross hairs back on Japan...nice one!

Such an abusive relationship. Japan needs to step out of this tempestuous unequal partnership.

Ahhhh not before it has full nuclear capability and is fully capable of fending off a Chinese or Chinese sponsored invasion of its territories. Fortunately they are fully aware of this which is why they "demand" commitment from the USA who placed them in this situation of weakness. North Korea is not really the threat...CHINA is!

Japan frequently demands -- and receives -- U.S. reassurances over its commitment to defend its ally.

Such an abusive relationship. Japan needs to step out of this tempestuous unequal partnership.

Yup, that's the definition of our pact too.
