Trump eyes return to TPP trade pact

Sorry America you have already lost the fight, the world is sick of your bullying.

So, all other countries agreed on the pact and signed it already, and he wants it to be modified so the US may sign it too ? Or does he want the US to be integrated with different terms than the other countries ?

Either way, I don't think that's how it works...

The other TPP members are not talking about renegotiating. Only Prezident Spanky is.

So this isn't so much Trump changing his position or negotiating for a better deal as it is him begging the rest of the world to notice him.

Once the lower casts have done everything, barge in and take command. He is a hero.

It was stupid to pull out of the TPP in the first place. Now we are unable to get better terms. Good job.

“IF it is a better deal”. Why wouldn’t he have someone check to see where TPP is and what his options are, if any? For all we know, privately the whole thing is falling apart and there is opportunity.

Trump is making the right decision by coming back to the TPP, but they have lost all leverage to influence its terms.

Not sure, but now it's a situation of whether or not the other countries have any interest in even going to the table to discuss with America. As you say, the deal is already concluded. Why waste time talking to America about it? America believes in America first, so let America figure out how to do that on their own. The rest of the world is the rest of the world first.

I wouldn’t be surprised if all the other countries’ leaders decide not to “renegotiate” with America’s biggest small-handed flipflopper Just because the OrangeHead is president. If anybody else said it, I wouldn’t have been surprised if some countries said, ‘yeah, sure, let’s talk about it.’

It was inevitable USA would rejoin TPP.Why the negativity, US is by far number one economy so having them now officially back in as of today makes an unstoppable trade block. Japan and USA will drive the trade block and crush China and EU.

Well it's good that Trump is coming to his senses over the TPP and opening the way to return to it. Not joining it in the first place was an unimaginably stupid decision and we have lost most of the clauses we ourselves created through the TPP negotiations

The total combined GDP of the 11 TPP countries is around $12 trillion. The US alone is around $18 trillion. Purely based on these numbers, I think they would be more than willing to re-open renegotiations, but it obviously depends on what America is offering.

For all we know, privately the whole thing is falling apart and there is opportunity. falling apart since 11 other countries have agreed and signed the pact, more Trump facts I see.

and thats where strength in numbers comes into play, America cant afford China joining or even influencing these countries, the pact may not be perfect for everyone but the US will be much stronger in it than being left out. The markets are totally in agreement, now maybe just maybe knee jerk Donny can see it also.

He will change his mind next week unfortunately. Will we have attacks on Syria, mmm yes, no, maybe, no, yes, no.

Still I hope for the sake of the U.S he is serious. It is absolutely in there interest, long term to join, since it brings South America and Asia together.

I find it interesting that China has not yet jumped on the opportunity to join and you know why? Because the TPP doesn't allow them to get away with the sort of nefarious trade practices that they do in every other instance. Its designed to lift standards in trade.

Trump should stay the course, bilateral one on one trade agreements only. Stay out of TPP that has many hidden trade barriers such as TPP member Japan. Although, Australia is a TPP member, Australia also has with Japan a bilateral trade agreement with low tariffs on agricultural and beef products.

Again, what is Japan afraid of with a bilateral trade agreement with the U. S.? Is it that Trump wants a fair playing field to dismantle trade barriers that are inhibiting truly free trade.

When it comes to hidden trade barriers that greatly drive up the cost, I do know what I am talking about. I have imported from America corn products, pork, coffee, processed food and other. I have imported from Australia vegetables and fruit juice. I have imported from New Zealand, tomatoes and strawberries.

Japan has many tricks of the trade and so do other countries, to inhibit, beef, agricultural and processed food products from entering their countries. Again, hidden trade barriers must be dismantled for truly free trade and this can only be done with bilateral trade agreements.

Again and again, what is Japan afraid of with a U. S / Japan bilateral free trade agreement?

No way. Why would participating countries want a loser WAR LORD WANNABE in the group.

makes sense to me. USA doesn’t need it but it we get a better deal for us, we will join. This is the way every single agreement should be negotiated, from a position of strength.
