Is the Emperor being used to sooth Trump's ego and make him soft on Japan? I don't like seeing the Emperor used like that.

See how he patted the Emperor's shoulder?

Patronizing, ill-educated nobody.

Trump being the first foreign "cough" leader to meet the new Emperor means that the only way forward is up. The riffraff is now out of the way and the Emperor can now look forward to meeting some real leaders of the world and having some adult conversations with them about world affairs.

Why is Trump being feted as a king?

Because the American economy is in the stratosphere compared the the Japanese economy. Everyone here in Japan knows MONEY is the true GOD of the Japanese people. All the pomp is only to get a piece of what the U.S. has now, and Trump has a lot to do with turning things around.

I was watching this live this morning JTV /CNN and the morons of CNN failed to identify the Emperor as he was greeting Trump, instead saying that the Imperial couple were some "staffers" or something like that. IDIOTS!

zichi:

Trump must be driven to be first ...

That reminds me of Abe's visit to see Trump after the presidential election. Abe was the first foreign leader to meet him, and it set a tone for their relationship.

If u become a president (well sorry it won't happen), u sure want to do the same and be treated in the same way but u just want to keep writing your hatred words.

Interesting to see the fawning coverage from NHK, compared to other news outlets. Why is Trump being feted as a king?

How appropriate that President Trump gave Japan's emperor with a violin. I understand the he plays both the viola and violin, so it is a fitting gift.

Has "Trump" embossed on the outside and made in China at the same factory as his clothing line....

Enjoy the ceremony and the strong bond that is being created between the USA and Japan.

One so strong even Donnie the Dimwit can't hurt it....

Evidently, they have not heard of Cool Biz (although Abe should know).

Man they've gotta be hot wearing those suits.

Very respectful and Presidential.

Empress Masako is a professional diplomat, everyone should know that.

Definitely NOT the best way to start an era!

Well, it was mentioned that this trip for Trump was more about the "bromance" with his BFF Abe, rather than anything of real substance. It's a feather in his hat to be "granted" the first imperial visit and it looks to have worked to Abe's advantage.

You can bet Abe is going to get a rather large bump in the polls for this meeting and Abe will use THAT to call a double election.

That is PRIOR to dropping the hammer on the public here with the tax increase and lord only knows what else!

Here's hoping Vader's Imperial March was playing.

@zichi - yep... This is pure ego trip. The whole thing. Yesterday's sumo and today's meeting amount to nothing but trying to increase Trump's hat size. I really feel sorry for the school kids having been told to sit there and wave flags.

Poor Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako - having to spend the morning with this doddering old fool who no doubt constantly reminded them that he was "a very stable genius"...

Gambatte neh....
