Try to imagine your beloved child suddenly disappeared and you found out later he/she was kidnapped by a hostile neighbor nation. This thug nation says “your daughter went insane and committed suicide” and returned the remains of someone else. Your beloved child always at risk being actually killed for thug nation to make their fake story real. Your beloved kids are hostage of that thug nation which would easily go insane, ruled by a mad man who wouldn’t mind sacrificing the nation’s entire people for his own regime.

So what can you do? What should you do? Sucking to whoever who has more hope is just NOTHING.

I don't get it though, what advantage does the North have in keeping them?

It establishes a climate of fear. It's a form of terrorism. Though these things happened in the past--even too long ago for some to care about--the threat that it might happen again remains and is ever present.

Everytime this NK's abduction topic comes up, Just amazed with the fact this many posters in this forum are so indifferent.

In order to rescue the victims avoiding the possible worst case scenario, sucking up to whoever or whichever countries that has power is definitely the best option now matter how badly you guys keep laughing at Japan and Japanese PMs. So just carry on. Japan should save it's pride for the revenge later on.

Probably not as long as the Kim Dynasty continues. It could be ended quickly with a war, but that's not what anyone wants.

Duh. Go to war over an issue from the 1970s? Have thousands die over 17 or less?

The whole issue is contrived by Abe to manipulate public opinion. Trump, dim as he may be, knows it and you can see he feels he its doing something stupid. But Abe asked so he had to say yes.

It is very easy to imagine what would US do if they were US citizens. It is much easier what would Russia would have already done if they were Russian citizens.

The Japanese approach to this issue leaves a lot to be desired. Being a hot potato as the leaders make us believe, You'd think they would repeat the "Koizumi doctrine" of engaging straight with Kim, but it is obvious they can't look him in the eye..hence the need to ask everybody to " gang-stalk" NK.

"We will be working together to bring your relatives, your daughters, your sons, your mothers home," Trump said in the meeting in Tokyo, which took place after an audience with new Emperor Naruhito and a summit with Abe.

He then added; "mark my words, mark my words".....

Then the entire audience let out a long sigh....so much for that promise....

I don't get it though, what advantage does the North have in keeping them? It's likely they've long since died and the survivors were already brought back. I suppose some official closure might be nice, but there's little advantage for the North to give an official statement in the matter.

Thank you Trump. Its a comfort to know Trump has Japans back on the abductee issue.

He said later that he had won Trump's support over his pursuit of a first-ever summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

Lets hope the PM Abe-Chairman Kim Summit is soon, possibly after the PM Abe-Iran Summit.

@Yubaru

It’s not the chair that’s the problem. It’s all those long, difficult words that the people around him are using....

This issue will never be solved.

They could have given Trump a chair that he could actually fit in. He looks awfully uncomfortable sitting there in this picture!

Abe is eager to resolve the issue during his time in office.

hmm... so what exactly has he done about it? Is Japan really so helpless that it needs to suck up to Trump to handle this?

I really wish that Japan will wake up and kick these old useless bureaucrats out when the election happens, but I think we all know that’s not going to happen.

This read like the same article as one or two years ago.

Only lip-service as always This issue will never be solved.
