Trump says U.S. envoy to Japan Hagerty to run for Senate

It seems Trump is too busy to give a hell about spelling, punctuation, or grammar.

Quite the classic "deer in headlights" look on Hagerty. Next, look at who just was posted to head the EPA.

This kinda shows how the US values Japan.

Instead of sending career diplomats or security experts, the US sends celebrities to Japan as reward for political loyalty.

This is actually a matter of some debate, as to which is better - an ambassador that is an expert for the country they're posted to, or an ambassador that isn't necessarily an expert but is close/connected to the President and has their ear. There's also the fact that ambassadors have become significantly less important with the advance of technology, as issues can now be handled by higher ranking officials thanks to various means of instantaneous global communication.

The US Senate has been rightfully described as the world's most exclusive millionaires' club.

Considering Trump's history, I'm guessing that we will look forward to months without an ambassador.

And just like Obama - except he didn't love the military.

I've constantly appreciated US ambassadors in Japan.  I remember how much Ambassador Roos helped by being with us with his kind and dedicated actions during the Great Earthquake I still can't see his name without tears. He is truly a great man. Ambassador Kennedy helped us by letting US president Obama know what kind of person PM Abe actually was when Abe was simply labeled as "revisionist" on American news media. Ambassador Hagerty, while being between President Trump and PM Abe both very strong and unpredictable figures, did the tough job to maintain good US Japan relationship. Unspectacular but heavy duty job he accomplished.

They are all tough but sincere, honest, dedicated Americans, Great "symbol" of America in Japan.

Obama sent Caroline Kennedy, while Trump sent William Hagerty, a private equity investor rewarded for his campaign donations. And the Obama appointee before Caroline was also a finance man.

The US never does this to countries that it considers to be important, like Russia and China.

Heck, even Korea got diplomacy/security pros for its ambassadors.

I once saw a beautiful lady. Southern, charming, and sassy like some Japanese women. I found the courage to approach her.
