These islands are more 'indisputable' than Diaoyu islands.

"Burns called for talks between Seoul and Tokyo to settle their row over an island chain known as Dokdo in Korea and Takeshima in Japan, the official said on condition of anonymity."

Can someone explain why anonymity is here, calling for peace?

Yes, here the US went as far as to kill a dozen illegal Korea squatters while it was still under US jurisdiction.

The US sits down with 2 allies and accomplishes nothing but a misleading and self-serving headline. Meanwhile, it merely sits on its hands when it comes to China and the Senkakus. Forward!!

Uncle Sam will make good use of this chance to irritate China, and maybe able to extract something valuable.

Uncle Sam likes to throw rocks at China while sitting on Japan's front porch. This "irritation" seems like such a great idea, especially when it is Japan that is most likely to suffer from the fallout of it. What thing of value do you think Japan will get from this sophomoric, "soft power" ploy?

The US Sec of Defense has told China that the US will defend the Senkakus. China has been whining since. Ther are two US carrier groups and an Amphibious Assault Group in he East and South China Seas. You have a funny concept of "sitting on your hands".

And a classified number of nuclear and attack subs. Don't forget those. And I can't find the 2nd carrier group unless you are referring to the Nimitz which is just finishing its COMPTUEX in the Eastern Pacific.

That's their area of operation. They're always around there. Still it hasn't stopped the Chinese. I'm talking about the vague assurances of protection from the US. This is particularly troubling since we have learned that Obama is asking the EU to calm down on their debt/deficit/bailouts until after the election. Has he asked the Japanese or the Chinese to do the same thing over the islands' issue?

But, we've had this argument before and its going nowhere. I didn't see you over on the rape story. Any comments about that?

Secretary of Defense admitted she is the one accountable for failure to protect the ambassor of US in Lybra. Secretary was impotent to protect her own diplomat or citizens in foreign soil. I can not imagine how will she protect the Senkaku islands without reliable budget. Irag war was finaned by PRC which costed 1.2 billion for a week. Truth is Japanese tax payers have alreay financed the Govt with bonds. They are no longer afford to foot the bill to J government.

If the secretary has credibilty, she has to show the evidence of financial source which will make reality of her talk. Her salary by self financed by PRC through selling treasury bonds. Truth is US is too broke to go to war without someone finace. Japan is too broke to finance the war too. It has gross (local and foreign) debt is 200% of GDP. Talk is cheap. Action cost billions and billions of dollars!
