The United States has inked reciprocal defense procurement pacts with 23 other countries, mostly European North Atlantic Treaty Organization partners. Its Japanese ally is the first Asian country to join that list.

Let's hope so; I've just watched a programme about when they recently bombed a hospital and killed many patients and staff, instead of their real target 400 metres away. To be fair, it was a communication breakdown problem on their part, but anything that improves accuracy can't be bad, and, given the way the world is at the moment, if Japan can cash in on the manufacturing of weapons and save some lives at the same time, it's no bad thing really.

Nothing new, but now it is in the open.

Probably to send a signal to China as a warning and to the rest of the world to say that Japan "does have" the weapons technology that can be recognized by the world and that it could be useful for them to have.

It also is a sign to "recognize" the militarization of Japan as being OK in the eyes of US and probably its closest allies elsewhere. There had to be much discussion before this announcement.

All these advanced technologies will someday be used entirely to explore deeper space,,,
