So long as the Japanese continue to buy, from the U.S., enormous amounts of corn, soybeans, and wheat, at record high prices, the U.S. will continue to happily scratch Japan's back.

“We have regularly ... urged these two countries to work this peacefully,” Nuland told reporters.

USA is very cunning, what they do is to deepen the crisis in Asia and try to fish in the troubled water.

USA controls almost 80 percent of the global arms market. Of course they are going to try and get everyone to face off against each other

I wonder how the U.S would react if the same thing happened to the U.S Ambassador to China? Would they just say "extremely concerning"?

I wonder how the U.S would react if the same thing happened to the U.S Ambassador to China?

Maybe their reason for issuing the statement is out of concern that it might very well happen in the future.

US : Go ahead. Make my day.

Amazing world we live in. Amazing how internal interest in China have the ability to quickly suppress opposition to its own ruling party in even the smallest and remote places within its borders yet for some reason, appear inept and have failed to suppress the years of ongoing open marketing and sales of patented material infringements within its own jurisdiction. Have you ever heard of the phrase: Get off the oil? The new one is: ‘’Let’s get off the China if things continue!’’ Pronto!!!!! Is that clear enough regardless of political Pac support? Good. Have a nice day.

@Virtuoso

Could be.

The US is concerned about the anti Japanese protest? Are they concerned with the anti-Afro American movement by America right wing, anti-Chinese movement around the world, anti-Korea sentiment in LA, anti-Iran movement which denies basic medication for childern in Iran? Anotherwords the US has lots to be concerned about!

-7 ( +3 / -10 )

The US is concerned about the anti Japanese protest?

No, the US is concerned about China's seeming ability to prevent its outraged citizens from running amok, making it a dangerous place to post American diplomats. This situation has happened before, with tragic results -- and hence the reminder.

6 ( +7 / -1 )

I myself would be less concerned if everyone realized that anti-Japanese government sentiments are just fine, but anti-Japan sentiments are for stupids.

Taking a flag off the ambassador's car as an anti-Japanese government protest is just fine with me. As an anti-Japan protest it is absolutely not. The difference is not in the least bit subtle.

-2 ( +0 / -2 )

Interesting how the Commie police and army allow for mass demonstrations of 'protesting' against the Japanese and their ambassadors car, nor do they do arrests. Yet if someone held mass demonstrations against the Chinese themselves they would be arrested and or killed.. Interesting way of bs brainwashed propaganda on the sheep.

The US NEEDS both these countries more than ever, so it's no wonder they are concerned more than usual. A lot of vested interests at play here.

"Chinese authorities—who are generally quick to put down any public protests—have mostly allowed demonstrations to go ahead."

Not surprising, as it gives them more power by uniting the people to a common cause. Still, any form of violence in these protests should be shut down right away. The Japanese police allow all the wingers to protest, sometimes with violence, but that said there is generally a lot less of it than in China in particular.

China, Japan, Korea = the Three Stooges!

I have mentioned the Yanks in several posts over the last few weeks in all these islands things, you can bet with 2 of the stooges Japan & Korea behind the scenes the Yanks are likely having a few real interesting conversations trying to get the stooges to stop stiring the pot!

But US has less direct influence with the 3rd stooge..............

Clearly if the US ever leaves it will get ugly in the Far East, hell at this pace it might get ugly with them here, this is nuts!

"The US NEEDS both these countries more than ever,"

Actually, we all need each other. Can we all just get along....?

1 ( +3 / -2 )

Ford are building a new factory in China so onviously the US would be concerned about the increasing number and scale of these protests.

0 ( +0 / -0 )

Wow watch out we got an International police here.

“We have regularly ... urged these two countries to work this out peacefully,” Nuland told reporters.

Urge the country which is seeking aggressive confrontation a little more.

4 ( +5 / -1 )

We could try to boycott China, but there wouldn't be much left to use!!!

Where the USA present, where the war happen, that is the hard fact.

Most of you people would not be be free to write your annonymous anti-American comments if Amerucans hadn't laid down their lives to win WWII and form the basis of the current world order that espouses democracy.

0 ( +4 / -4 )

Ripping off the flag is childish however I believe it's a fundamental rule that flying a country's flag in another country especially when the country has not apoligised for past occurrences, is just plain rude. Perhaps have the Chinese flag above it just to show some respect that you are in their country. We had an instance back home in Aus where a German-Australian would only fly a German flag on his porch which was situated next to a WW2 cemetery. In the end he put up the Aus flag above the German flag and even the war vets were happy. Of course this is a bunch of hyperactive apes protesting and doing things without thinking hampering any potential progress for solidification of stability between the two countries.

-6 ( +0 / -6 )

Thanks for the info OssanAmerica, didn't realise that tthe USA won WWII single handedly. BTW, you do mean the same WW2 that begun with Pearl Harbour or the real one that started with the invasion of Poland?

3 ( +5 / -2 )

Most of you people would not be be free to write your annonymous anti-American comments if Amerucans hadn't laid down their lives to win WWII and form the basis of the current world order that espouses democracy.

What you said is hijacking the WWII victory for USA, It was certainly not USA alone to achieve the victory and USA has been well paid off for its efforts and contribution, even excessively.

-2 ( +1 / -3 )

Look at you you folks. We have an article about a belligerent action taken against a diplomatic vehicle which is suppose to be under the protection of the host country with rights of immunity deciated by the Vienna convention. The incident affects ALL countries and is a serious matter, not the same as an out-of=control mob smasing restaurants. It is only natural for the United States and every civilized country on earth to be concerned. You can bet the Chinese governmernt itself is concerned since they don't tolerate demonstrations and acts of "pastrotism" not under their direct control, not to mention the loss of face for China in the international community. Yet you people turn this thread into a US bashing fest. And no, the US ddn't win WWII alone, but it played the biggest role in both winning it and reconstructing the free world afterwards. Oner of he benefits being that you can post your US-bashing comments without fear of government reprisal, as in China.

Nuland reiterated that the United States does not have a position on sovereignty of the disputed territories. The United States, however, stations some 47,000 troops in Japan and is bound by treaty to defend its ally.

The US only defends its own interests. Nikkei had an article which showed that the US declared that it "did not need the Pacific island to defend Japan but rather for the security of Northeast Asia (read: for the security of its interests in Northeast Asia)" which rather goes against the common and oft used assertion that the US will actually act to defend Japan even as America bows out of the islands issues. It will not stand up to China on Japan's behalf simply because such action would put its own interests in China at risk.

Contrast the US's stance on the Senkakus with Hilliary's defense of Vietnam which is locked in a similar row with China over islands there. As a result, the US gets a defense agreement with the Vietnamese who apparently have been duped like the Japanese.

Some people tend to criticize China for controlling its people, however, when it comes to this case, they just blame the China government for not controlling its people enough.

it is just kind of accident and can't be avoided, how about the Chinese embassy bombed in yugoslavia? How about UK threat to storm Ecuadorian embassy and arrest Julian Assange?

-1 ( +1 / -2 )

It will not stand up to China on Japan's behalf simply because such action would put its own interests in China at risk.

The Japanese politicians certainly know that, they are just fooling the Japanese people in so believing. Actually, few people know about this issue in USA, not to say they will risk their lives for the small rocks far away in a sovereignty dispute not on USA and for which they don't even dare to take side.

-1 ( +0 / -1 )

The Japanese politicians certainly know that, they are just fooling the Japanese people in so believing.

Which shows the US influence on Japanese politics. The US is as much a special interest in Japan as the nuclear and agriculture industries and the Keidanren. In areas affecting the US military, American influence reigns supreme (note Okinawa and Osprey issues which, despite public opposition, will be settled according to the American demands).

Threat, Intimidation, etc.. for what? They want WAR? I don't think so. Only stupid think tanks will want that. War is our doomsday. With Nuclear weapons all over this planet. The end. Sayonara. Adios for everyone. I got a feeling there is a hidden agenda being promulgated by a powerful nation to help their going down the sink economy. The word is business. War? "What is it good for.... absolutely nothing..say it again" as the song goes. IMO, when there are threats between nations, this nation will arm themselves and procure the top of the line arms to protect them. Japan is now considering the offers by USA for those top of the line radars and planes from USA. That's lots of $ man. The tension before was with NK then Chinese fishermens started the fiasco and now SK . I wonder why. And all of this nations are USA allies. :)) Think....think....think....

1 ( +1 / -0 )

And no, the US ddn't win WWII alone, but it played the biggest role in both winning it

oo really? I am pretty sure your European friends won't be happy to hear that. They might said America never win a war by himself, O wait, didn't America lost to China twice in Vietnam and Kamboja? My Europian friends has mentioned that years ago before Iraq war. And again, Iraq lost when your European comrades fight with you.

and reconstructing the free world afterwards.

O really again? I don't need to answer this. Just I wonder why all Democracy countries in Asia has lot of debt.

Moonbat, has spoken again

1 ( +1 / -0 )

It's the 'right' political answer a nation as the US only can give. And as always the European nations will wait with 'their' political reaction after that of the US and of course similar in line.

What would some expect here: that the US would say? "come on chaps, it's only a bloody flag honk your car and put a new one on at home."

China sees Japan as a proxy for U.S. in the Pacific. By testing U.S. resolve to defend Senkaku islands, it may be seeking to drive a wedge between U.S. and Japan. That makes the islands part of a much larger strategic face-off between China and U.S. Japan’s problems with China and with Asia go back further much than the second world war. That’s a shame because it makes them even more difficult to manage. Japan copied westerners in everything they did, including their practice of invading other countries. The result was murderous and tragic. There are millions of Japanese who know full well what Japan did in the war. Many Japanese Imperial servicemen bravely spoke out about atrocities committed. Japan has been unable to address the “history problem” as thoroughly as Germany for several reasons. One is that the emperor, in whose name the war was fought, remained on the throne. Another is that, after the war, Asia fell into a cold-war freeze. There was little chance of reconciliation across the ideological divide. As the cold war receded, ugly questions of history rose from the mud.

US concerned.....theirs own national interest.

US motto Enemy is not permanent' Friend is not permanent. National Interest of USA is permanent'

i.e. If America hand over Dioayu to China after world war 2.. Today East China sea's will have tranquility and peace.

@efisher: US is very cunning, what they do is to deepen the crisis in Asia and try to fish in the troubled water

Oh indeed! This is not the first time and it wont be the last time! Remember the Iran-Iraq war was provoked by Carter-Bresensky in 1980 due to the Tehran US embassy incident and even the iraqi missile strucked a US frigate in 87', teh excuse from Iraq was accepted because then Iraq was serving the American strgetic interest! So the 'flag looting' incident in China will draw America's concern and the level has escalated to a security level, you have got to understand what kind of conspiracy is behind their curtains!

"country's flag in another country especially when the country has not apoligised for past occurrences,"

duh they have appoligized many many many many many many many many many many many many many many times. Its irrelevant anyway. Chinese don't promote good behaviour, they are famous for their behaviour round the world too often in the wrong ways.
