"U.S. looks to Asian nations to build their militaries" because US weapons manufacturers want to make MONEY. This is all about business NOT security. Fake enemies make real profits.

This is just one side of the Triangle of Control. (1) Weapons manufactures (ENDLESS WAR) (2) Banks (ENDLESS DEBT) (3) Agri/Drug Biz (ENDLESS DISEASE) And this control is all based on LIES.

Maybe only philipine, Singapore will listen to USA, as for the rest Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Lao, Cambodia, Thailand will likely give lip service to the US, Malaysia are pretty well known for their anti US stance.

Whenever USA poke their nose in , it always cause great unrest in that region, never ever any good out come since ww2, when USA self appoint global policeman stuck their big fat A in there.

Me like the USA, and me sure Asians are not want be SLAVES to CHINA, so me think China need to be more intelligent and less GREEDY, every time CHINA mess with smaller countries, including JAPAN, Japan and the rest of Asia say, look if we just sit around the greedy fat Chinese are just coming in and taking over everything so CHINA has no body to blame but its GREEDY self for scaring the smaller Asian countries into the loving arms of UNCLE SAM, right?? And this has been going on for THOUSANDS of years all over Asia, China trying to conquer smaller countries, just ask the KOREANS if they want to be slaves to China!!

US, please don't further increased your military presence in this Asian region any more, we and my future generation would really want to live in peace

The risk tensions of China and South Korea of today have nothing to do with Japan's act of the first half of the 20th century. It is because of their anti-Japan educations and their increasing powers. China has started mentioning the entire Okinawa and even Hawaii. South Korea's anti-Japan movement is getting stronger and stronger. No time talking about the first half of the last century.

"Republican committee chairman Howard McKeon sounded less accommodating. He supported a more active role for Japan’s military in response to assertive behavior by China. Japan has the region’s second strongest military after China but it remains constrained by its pacifist constitution."

Can't wait for all the C-supporters calling McKeon "Japanese Right-Wing".

sveninnyes,

I hope you're wrong too. But the US has made a blood bath in the Middle East and it looks like they would love to do the same thing in South East Asia.

That's exactly why the U.S. pivot to Asia has taken place. To keep China from starting a conflict with one or more of it's neighbors which could escalate into a war.

Nah...me thinks it's to help keep the U.S. weapons manufacturers happy. Increased tension/U.S. pivot = greater profits.

OK. Please tell me how the United States managed to get the China to declare back in 2003 that they intend to take control of the East and South China Seas and replace the U.S. as the dominant strategic power in the region. Then tell me how the United States was able get China to enter territorial disputes with Vietnam, the Philippines and Japan. What exactly did we do and how?

The great US empire is declining so they are trying to find friends in Asia.

Wow, wrong on all counts. We are not an Empire, we are not in decline, and we always have had friends in Asia. Something China can not say.

Better for the smaller Asian nations to build up their own militaries than sending US troops there.

It is a cycle thingy for USA, after ww2 they create a big mess in Central and South America, then they move on to Middle East another fine mess after removing whomever they don't like in the ME, now wanting to create a new mess in SEA .

They are the big Satan rightly called so by Iran.

As if Iran hasn't created their own mess in the Middle East with Hezbollah and Syria. They shouldn't be pointing fingers.

U.S. lawmakers have voiced bipartisan support for the Obama administration’s strategic pivot to Asia but stressed the need for partner nations to strengthen their military capabilities and contribute more to their own defence.

What total arrogance... because they want to concentrate their attention in the East they are demanding that the countries there boost their military spending? Who on earth do they think they are?

Agree Iran are no Angel, they just go kuku when the Shan was overthrow with help from France, but do they go and create or over throw government which they don't like as much as USA do.

goggle it up USA was involve in almost every continents, starting off with central and South America after WW2, next come Middle East, it is worse now than they were before being topple by USA, now they love to get the whole cake and eat it all, it is going to be a bit tough with the last few pieces might cause heart failure.

Don't be greedy, it is showing indigestion....lol

I think the intent of the message is that other countries who plan to have the US Military involved in aiding them in regional or local issues should be prepared to offer more in terms of military capability than was previously expected. Similar to our change in expectations from our NATO allies.

The great US empire is declining so they are trying to find friends in Asia.

You make it sound like reaching out diplomatically is a bad thing.
