It's not like she could do any damage. She's a trophy appointment.

One might look at the comments that show a negative response and perhaps view them as the old adage: "If you have nothing good to say, say nothing at all". The diplomatic service is not a cake walk, but how would you know that! Just shooting off your mouths!

There are people in this space who would jump to criticize the least objectionable thing. I am trying to get used to it.

I'm not going to jump on her, I don't know the woman, but it just want to know, what are her qualifications? Has she worked extensively in politics before? It just seems to me, if you are an unknown person with an odd name or a person with a famous last name, getting a job in politics is an absolute cakewalk.

She's a liberal feminist. Not good for Japan's declining birth rate.

This high-profile appointment will be very helpful in solidifying US/Japan ties. She's sure to bring charisma and brains to the job and will be a feather in the cap for the Japanese.

@Die Intellectual: When Hillary was the presidential candidate against Obama, Carolyn opposed Hillary vigorously. Wasn't she accused too conservative? She gained conservative voters for Obama while Liberal Hillary lost candidacy chance. When she turned to become liberal? Hillary even had the wife of that sext scandal Weiner's wife on her side. Liberals lost to Obama, media used to comment.

The headline is wrong. According to the first paragraph, the U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee has backed the nomination. The U.S. Senate has not yet voted on the nomination.

We have grown up together with Caroline since the day she was born. She is a princess of America and we love her.

She is a perfect person for US/Japan diplomacy. Also I can see she will play a positive role among Japanese women.
