YES! Can't we all just get along?

Given a decade, or less, QUAD will be bigger and stronger than NATO, so this is a moot point.

I don't know about South Korea. Not really sure whose side they are on.

"Blinken underscored the importance of alliance partnerships and named Australia, Japan, New Zealand and South Korea as countries which NATO should enhance ties with"

Doubt that New Zealand and South Korea really have the motivation to confront or call out China.

Reading between the lines, Blinken left out India. Obviously the US wants India to make a choice and give up its deep legacy ties with Russia, otherwise India will not really be considered part of any alliance.

I highly doubt it,I asked to all my friends back in the old continent about your mighty QUAD but not a single person knew about it.

On the other hand NATO was and will remain an important institute for defense.

Maybe the glorious “Quad” might join Nato someday.

"The Biden administration has also been encouraging Japan and South Korea to improve a bilateral relationship that has increasingly soured over wartime compensation issues."

All Asian countries really need to forget historical battles and confront the rise of China today.

No different to Japan. Only difference is Korea is upfront about it and Japan does secret deals with China behind closed doors. Double standards ne?

New Xi-land is playing it smart. Let the others do the heavy lifting. Australia is being sanctioned by China and the US just takes over the barley orders. Uncle Sam says to Aussies, “we’re with you all the way” ..double wink

There are no friends in business.

What does a North Atlantic Alliance have to do with China or Japan? Haven't these people ever looked at a map?

NATO is a fascist Neo-Conservative Christian organization that has killed more civilians than we cant count.

Maybe on your planet South Korea is a member of QUAD and conducts FON exercises with US allies.

How come you make such knee-jerk reactions to anything, even just a post, related to South Korea or Korea

LOL.

The United States, having exported to the world unleashed capitalism, ungoverned social media and a militarized foreign policy, has now seen its pathologies weaponized by its enemies and turned back upon itself, and is getting scared. Their invasion of Iraq introduced a destabilizing new "normal" to global politics: laws and norms were now for the weak, and the strong could do anything they wanted. Join with us, they now say, and you, too, can behave with impunity...

U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Tuesday encouraged the North Atlantic Treaty Organization to deepen cooperation with Japan as the organization seeks to become more capable of confronting China's rise and Russian threats.

Ah yes, I wonder how many Biden voters really care about humanity. Expect more of this BS for 3 1/2 more years.

On May 29th, the Bulgarian Ministry of Defense and Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation into an incident in the village of Cheshnegirovo in the region of Plovdiv.

The incident involved US military who, mistakenly, stormed vegetable oil production workshop during a NATO military exercise.

While a number of NATO members have interests in the region NATO as a whole doesn’t it is a regionally focused organisation. Having said that the present and future interconnectedness of the world means the threats are no longer just along its borders but can emanate from anywhere. Intelligence and cyber are probably where any cooperation will focus with training and interoperability with those NATO members with global expeditionary capabilities. Not to mention mutual moral and political support.

The Quad does not have the institutional support or military integration of NATO and at the moment doesn’t look like there is the political will to creat it.

NATO is a fascist Neo-Conservative Christian organization that has killed more civilians than we cant count.

NATO is the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and it counters repressive entities like USSR, now Russia and its satellite servants. It helps develop freedom in the region and provides support for all members in times of confrontation by hostile countries.

There is no reason why NATO's membership and area of concern can not be expanded as needed. Many nations outside of Europe or North America fought for a free Europe on more than one occasion in recent history. It could be argued that a debt of assistance is owed to those nations by Europe, when it is needed most.

Perhaps an expansion of NATO to include the other Quad members plus New Zealand and South Korea, as a starting point for even greater expansion to like minded freedom loving countries the world over. That would be a positive move for the world and to discourage wars in the future.

NATO has the wrong ocean...

Any one thinking NATO gonna be part of the battles in the Pacific needs to look at a map, Nato is to do with the North Atlantic Treaty Organisation isnt it? Which is the other side of the planet .

Nothing in NATO mentions the Pacific which is where the battles will be/ is / are / will be, obviuolsy you were in the wrong class at shcool and probably the wrong generation to actually get a real legit education and learn about history or even reality.( Studied irrelevant things)

And yes over the top heavy handed mod this post is vulgar, offensive or off topic , or some other silly pathetic excuse but only because you have a narrow view of things.

NATO is the world's strongest military.

The US is the world's strongest military.

More than the next 10 countries combined. Yes, these 10 include China, Russia, France, Germany, UK... and even Japan and SK.

NATO is a fig leaf.

I wouldn't trust Japan to come to the aid of anyone. They did bugger all in Afghanistan and they were pathetic in Iraq, arguing about if they come to the rescue of British American troops if the Brits or other coalition forces were attacked. But they wanted the Brits, Americans et al to come and rescue them, because I think they took only a couple of machine guns. Not to mention they were placed far far away out of any harms way.

It would be great if Japan stepped up to the plate, but I think they will do what they normally do, pay others to do the dying and crying.

Japan, Malaysia, vietnam, Australia, NZ et al, and even Korea should finally work together to stand up to the BIG BULLY on the block, politically, economically, and militarily.

Why do the Japanese keep on mentioning the quad as if it's some sort of privilege. I don't see Americans, Australians or Indians talking about this at all? Inferiority complex ne?

I did not realize Japan was in the North Atlantic…

0 ( +3 / -3 )

Japanese troops in Iraq were given protection by the Australian military.

Protection for the unit was provided primarily by Australian troops,[6][23] as the Japanese soldiers were prohibited from engaging Iraqi guerrillas unless they came under fire.[24] However, a small number of Japanese Special Forces Group, Western Army Infantry Regiment, and 1st Airborne Brigade personnel were deployed to provide protection.

The world is a very small place and countries can have interests in any part of it. To say Japan is not in the Atlantic is correct but it has trade that sails there daily, so it has interests there. Japan trades all over the world and so has interests and trade to protect. No different to many trading nations around the world.

Partnerships are not just regional, they are global. They may have been regional hundreds of years ago but in today's world they are global and rightly so.

The only ones having inferiority complex are the typical Koreans on this site who bashes Japan spreading down right false information or half-truths. QUAD is important because of the evident intentions of China's UNPEACEFUL rise as you can see what's going on in the South China sea, intentions to get Taiwan back (even by force if necessary) and the constant intrusion of the Senkaku's. China's military will be a force to reckon with in the coming decades and potentially overpower the US in that region unless their allies cooperate. QUAD wasn't established to invade China, but to prepare for a possible engagement with the Chinese if they become aggressive in the future.

NATO has the wrong ocean..

One Belt One Road brings the Chinese threat to NATOs southern flank. Find out what is going on with the port at Piraeus Greece and Budapest Hungary.

Nothing in NATO mentions the Pacific

Nothing in NATO specifically mentions east Asia either but the US led invasion and subsequent military operations in Afghanistan are a NATO operation. So are anti-piracy patrols in the North Arabian Sea and Red Sea. So too in my active duty days were naval operations to escort tankers in and out of the Persian Gulf during the "Tanker War" of the 1980s where the navies of the US, UK, France, Italy, Belgium and Netherlands operated, with the Belgians and Dutch in particular specializing in removing Iranian mines.
