Good. Next step, detach from China

Sure, and the US is not the biggest currency manipulator in the world.
gogogo
No kidding, Japan is a currency manipulator. They even release press releases about it so other traders know when Japan is going to give them free money.

The US is gorging on its over-inflated dollar without a care for how it affects other nations. Maybe it's time we stop using the dollar as the World's Reserve Currency.
wallace
The dollar needs to be devalued.
Paul
So US can manipulate the dollar as much as it wants, but no one else should defend themselves from this manipulation. A very fair idea!!!!

Stove meet kettle.
The USA manipulates every market it put its nose into then accuses others.
I find it ironic that so many here believe the USA is for open markets and democracy.
They only care for open markets if it is in their benefit and democracy in their own country, the rest they prefer whatever government will work for the USA.

LOL, how does it do that when it has a completely open capital account? (Free flowing of capital in / out).
When China manipulate the RMB for instance, it's actually trading the USD. The USD is also a safe haven currency, other countries own and use it just as much if not more than USA itself.

Sure, they'll give a call to UK to do the dirty job.
Tell_me_bout_it
ah yes, classic old "do whatever you want, but dont intervene volatile currency disorder, dont increase interest rate, just do whatever to eff up the citizens."

United States cares so much about keeping Japan and Germany on its leash but allow china free to do as it pleases.. LOL

Plaza Accord 2.0 is in the making.

Central Banks are all manipulators. Why we can just let rates and exchange rates find their own levels based on economic activity etc is unclear to me. I guess governments cant help themselves and bureaucrats love the power.

Funny thing is the US dollar tanked bigger since last night on an inflation reading that was under expectations than it did when the MoF decided to blow away trillions of dollars on intervention.
The upside is, at least for the second intervention above 150 yen to the dollar, the MoF could buy those dollars back for a tidy profit should it choose!
But with the cavalier approach to the value of the yen taken by authorities here, being labeled a currency manipulator by the US is the least of Japan’s worries now.

The irony is painful

BRICS will destroy the dollar. USA is freaking out.

Japan's inflation rate is ridiculous

This is where actual National debt comes into play.
People keep making a big deal about Japan's debt.
But that debt is nearly all owed domestically.
The USA a very large portion is owned by Japan and China add to that that both countries also hold very very very large amounts of USA dollars in their foreign currency reserves and the two have to potential to cause quite the damage to the USA dollar and economy.
Japan alone in theory could create havoc by just dumping half its reserves in dollars all at once.

Dear USA
You definitely like to target Asian countries.
My bad...... You listed 1 white country name Germany. Must be ok then. No Racism here.
I wonder how the woke people would feel if 7 to 8 African black countries got targeted. That's when they see Race and injustice immediately!
lunatic
Every Friday night Japan is selling massive amounts of dollars, just seconds before the market closes.
That market manipulation... is it legal?
TokyoLiving
AMEN !!!... The world has to get out from the piracy of the US economic policies and its dirty corrupt dollar..
BRICS can bring that solution to the world but it is still in the medium term..
CS
It is, it should be worth a lot more against other currencies than it is.
regarding Japan, $1.00 should buy ¥300
that seems about right. The US should not prop up these backward thinking countries anymore. Japan is not even in the game now.
