well if you stayed in the TPP you would have, now your scrambling to play catch up

Tell Perdue and Washington to go to hell. A trading partner does not try to take total control of a partner, does not dominate its partner and occupy the trading nation. Regain your sovereignty Japan.

Before agreeing to anything Japan should demand the immediate removal of Trump's tariffs on steel and aluminum. This is the reason neither Canada nor Mexico has ratified NAFTA 2.0

Trump is to get a BETTER deal not the same all-comers deal. Fail for Trump on this one.
and why would Japan do that, the other TPP memebers will demand the same , which was the whole point of being in the TPP anyways. more trading power as a group than as single country
