U.S. museum not to host A-bomb exhibit over calls for nuclear weapons abolition

Many people desire the abolition of nuclear weapons, but only by other countries it seems.

Victors justice. If US lost, the leaders (president, cabinet, generals, etc) would've been hanged (hung?) as war criminals for either giving order to drop nukes on cities with civilian populations or just following orders. Syria or false flag rebels launched chemical weapons but nukes are fair game? Seriously?

Russia has 7000 pointed at you. It is crazy. People should have freedom in a democracy to view such an exhibition, unless it is not a democracy.

Hiroshima,Nagasaki and Japan will shine the light for World with no more Nuclear weapons.in our lifetime.

Smart thinking. When I once attended a Japanese seminar on "peace education," it was little more than an excuse to engage in an orgy of Japanese victimhood.

So the exhibit could go ahead and advocate for the abolition of nuclear weapons providing it is made absolutely explicit that it requires a verifiable and scientific approach.

At that point I dont think it would be particularly controversial even though the idea of it really is pie in the sky thinking at this point in time. The trend is the exact opposite.

Unfortunately the US has a history of violent confrontation in the far east. The nuclear option is still quoted and praised in some circles.

America's nuclear weapons industry is more important than an atomic bomb free world? That says a lot!

Again, showing what a war mongering nation the US is and again showing how arrogant and uncaring the US is to Japan, Yet, the Japanese government continue to support the US government without question. When will the Japanese people elect a government that will restore their sovereignty?

Unilateral nuclear disarmament is pointless and does nothing to achieve a nuclear weapons free world. The only practical and effective way forward is through negotiated multilateral disarmament as it is the only way that actualy takes in to account human nature and the realities of global politics.

@Ganbare, the US is not that close of a friend to Japan as you seem to think it is, or at least it is not a type of friend that will “consider the feelings” of the Japanese people or think “feelings” are very important or base decisions on “feelings.” Decisions such as excluding Japan from steel and aluminum tariff exemptions for example, are not based on the US Japan friendship and neither is the one by the Los Alamos Historical Museum.

That said, while New Mexico is in the US and the executive director of the museum in the U.S. town of Los Alamos may be a US citizen, she is not and does not represent the USA.

It might be helpful for your anger if you asked why couldn’t she (Heather McClenahan, the director) have supported the victims or the museum, instead of the whole town or the USA.

People seem to forget that prior to 1945 we had a world without nuclear weapons. Was it a peaceful world? Hardly.

Throughout the 20th century up until 1945 nuclear weapons did not exist, yet two major world wars and countless regional wars occurred and were fought......with conventional weapons.

After 1945, the much anticipated World War III between the U.S., Soviet Union and China....the nations capable of waging total war.....never occured because they each possessed nuclear weapons and were fully aware of the effects of a nuclear destruction. Nuclear weapons have made such Total War unthinkable, unwageable and unwinnable, and ironically contributed to "world peace."

Worldwide abolishment of nuclear weapons will put the world right back to pre-1945 when the world had only conventional weapons.....weapons that makes waging total war thinkable once again.

The two airplanes which dropped A. Bombs were sent from Nellis Air Force base in Nevada. Thee is a large atomic experience msiam where you can sit on a chair like ion a theater. Then the entire building. shakes. and you feel as if you were in WWIi Japan. Tourists comig to Vegas drives from Las Vegas Strip. Bblvd toward East and go to visit there. Some people like to know where airplane came Moore than test site. One of plae was toward Kokura but bad weathe. changed goiiiing to Nagasaki. Until. that, people were ordered suicide. Military changed mind. Yankees were serious, they bombed Christian Nagasaki.
